Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VinLancaster on 2/15/2013 & rated 91 points: Swells with grenache funk: game meats, wet moss, river rock and stewed rhubarb. Earth based on the palate with wet soil, mountain raspberry, cassis, beefy biltong, clove, coriander seed, sanguine and tarragon. This Grenache is not a shy wine, but complex with plenty of acidity.  Tasted by Lobonick on 7/23/2011 & rated 93 points: This is just a perfectly balanced wine. Edgy and crisp while still staying in balance with the beautiful fruit. A little bit restrained on the nose, it is still beautiful. One friend described this wine as "too perfect" with no flaws to latch on to when talking about it. A real stand out of a wine.  Tasted by VinLancaster on 6/25/2011 & rated 90 points: Aged 9 months 33% new French oak, 67% neutral French oak. Linda Donovan is the winemaker and knows her stuff. Great refinement in this grenache. I love the old world/new world dichotomy of their wines, they've captured this nuance well without too much heavy metal (none, in fact) and less cedar notes. It's a grenache to savor to the last drop. (919 views)
Tasted by OregonWineGeeks on 3/18/2011 & rated 92 points: 2009 Cowhorn Grenache 80

The 2008 vintage of this wine was called Grenache 74 and was one of my favorite wines. The 74 was for the number days of frost the vineyard had. So the 2009 vintage got to 80 days. Cowhorn is known for its certified bio-dynamic Rhone varietal wines. They do an exemplary job and 2009 is no exception to that success. The wine is a light reddish purple, the nose a perfume of berry, cranberry, and a touch of cedar. On the pallet it is more reserved than the 2008 but with a wow factor of subtle flavors and a great long tannic finish. Almost chateaunuef in character, 92 another hit from Cowhorn. (1171 views)
