Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.3 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 53 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Giggs on 7/2/2015 & rated 92 points: Decanted 1 hour. Big, ripe, juicy purple fruit, mountain flowers and underbrush, black stone grounds, strong fine tannins on the finish. Enjoyable to drink young, but it will benefit from five years or so. Drink 2020-2027. (448 views)
Tasted by MikeATL on 5/9/2015 & rated 90 points: Brisket, Bordeaux, and Rhones: Ripe but pure, with decent minerality, a little tang from the stems, and ample but ripe tannin, it may not be my favorite expression of Hermitage, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. (1889 views)
Tasted by bajayngo on 4/13/2015: Quick note from a friends 50th bday party. Classic north rhone lavander, cured meats, pepper, dark berries and drinking relatively young. (2058 views)
Tasted by Camben on 1/1/2015 & rated 92 points: Very plush. Big and chewy. Licorice and hay. Fruit develops. Somewhat backwards. Blue fruit. Should have decanted for a few hours. (3075 views)
Tasted by Gurto on 12/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Delas Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes 2009

Mycket gott men bör lagras längre. 92p (2802 views)
Tasted by mgmucha on 12/5/2014 & rated 94 points: Delicious, beautiful muted bouquet of bacon, dark red fruit. Meaty, rich, long finish. Decanted, got better and better, peaking when the bottle was finished ~3 hours in. Awesome rhone syrah. (2902 views)
Tasted by olalar on 10/27/2014 flawed bottle: corked (3107 views)
(4137 views)
Tasted by clubs on 5/24/2014 & rated 92 points: drinking well - possibly better with time (3532 views)
Tasted by mtolerico on 5/16/2014 & rated 93 points: Red fruits and meat dominate. Medium plus acidity and medium body. Overall it's well balanced and silky smooth with a long life ahead of it. I honestly don't know where the high 90 point scores come from as it just wasn't complex enough for me to be rated that high, but it's really well made and very enjoyable. (3645 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 5/9/2014 & rated 93 points: Dinner at Piatti Elian San Antonio. Incredible wine. I must find more. Perfect harmony of flavor, structure, balance in a very young wine. This wine should be 'stunning' in 3-5 years or more. Sorry so minimalistic notes. (3445 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 3/30/2014: Score reserved- somewhat lacking in typicity and not all that good. Let's see what happens here... (3661 views)
Tasted by Drankard on 3/10/2014 & rated 92 points: Leans towards modern in style but done very well, not spoofalated. Balanced, nice structure, still very primary. Not my style of wine but still very good. What does the future hold? (3437 views)
Tasted by helderramos on 2/12/2014 & rated 95 points: Vinho com predomínio de Shiraz, excepcional. Encorpado, forte, intenso. Taninos potentes. Um bela experiência. (1950 views)
Tasted by KingClint on 2/4/2014 & rated 92 points: 92 now but has potential. Way to young old onto these for many years (3042 views)
Tasted by pauljr1121 on 1/25/2014 & rated 93 points: Decanted for six hours and it was not even close to long enough. Six days would have been better. Or maybe the DeLorean directed to 2034. Had some impressive dark fruit and coffee notes but it just felt like it needed to be laid down for at least 3-5 more years. The core was very promising and suspects a very long life ahead. Hope to find another. (3036 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 1/11/2014 & rated 89 points: Lactic nose, vegetal, a bit too much alcohol, black fruit, licorice, hint of vegetal... relatively hard tannins, underlying fruit... is this a representative bottle or is it in a closed phase??? (2695 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 1/11/2014 & rated 93 points: Black cherries, sandalwood, smoke... taste of black cherries, mineral, nice acidity (2990 views)
Tasted by Holagatitos on 12/25/2013 & rated 92 points: Very young and still needs a lot of time to come around. Right now drinking lovely after about 8 hours in a decanter. Surprisingly gentle with a long finish. Gravel, graphite, slight spice, smoke, and firm acidity marks the bottle at this point, but is sure to continue to open more and develop in the bottle (2703 views)
(3808 views)
Tasted by Opusone99 on 7/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Sans prise de notes. Délicieux à nouveau! (4606 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 3/24/2013 & rated 95 points: Beautiful nose of "viande faisandée", ripe cherries... hint of ripe tannins, nice freshness, oriental spices, average lenght (6040 views)
Tasted by maxima on 1/17/2013 & rated 94 points: En carafe pour environ 2 heures.
(6985 views)
Tasted by Sundbyberg on 12/29/2012 & rated 90 points: A lot less power and fruit this time, and therefore more as I prefer my redwines. Balanced, elegant but lacks a little bit personality. Just a nice wine.
Opened the night before, had a glas, then 1 hour decant including a double decant before dinner. (6746 views)
Tasted by maxima on 12/26/2012 & rated 93 points: En carafe pour environ 2 heures.
(6017 views)

Delas Frères

Producer Website
Since 1996, the firm of Delas Frères has fully retrieved the glory and spirit that made its fame. A highly motivated team is proud to help give a new lease of life to this great Rhône Valley wine merchant firm, founded in 1835. Under the guidance of its current management, numerous investments have been made at the winery at Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, near Tournon-sur-Rhône. A specially designed fermentation hall for the making of red wines, and a thorough rebuilding of the ageing cellar are amongst the key elements of the new quality charter from Delas Frères. This can be summed up in one sentence : place man and wine at the centre of the stage, together with terroir.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Rousanne, and Viognier.

Guide to Hermitage wine

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
