Tasted by UMRich on 2/14/2022 & rated 89 points: Better than prior bottle; more balanced and less acidic (398 views)
Tasted by UMRich on 1/5/2021 & rated 85 points: Fruit has receded, replaced more by acidity than interesting secondary notes. Liked it better a few years ago; drink up if you have one. (559 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 5/9/2020 & rated 92 points: Very nice. Similar notes as last time. Has been 6 years since last Coravin access. The wine is undoubtedly still sound and has life and plenty of fruit and nuance left. Similar meaty darker plums with some savory peppery spice and violet accents.
Moderate complex finish. Coravin works. And this wine is killer, just not sure if the price has gone up since purchasing this bottle. (715 views)
Tasted by kcp on 1/10/2018 & rated 90 points: Nicely integrated at this stage. Good fruit, medium body. I like. (1127 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 7/7/2017 & rated 86 points: With Jonathan and Mariesa at our house, last wine of the vening, followed an 08 Kongsgaard Syrah. Splash decanted and drank over 2 hours.

From prior notes:" Deep purple/ruby color. Nose of dark fruits, savory notes, . Palate of blackberry, plum, blueberry, roasted meats, violets. Unfortunate strong green bell pepper on the mid palate which, for me, throws the palate/fruit off considerably..."

Herbaceous/green bell pepper still there, not sure if result of whole cluster fermentation...either way this misses the mark for me. Nice fruit underlying masked by the funk...not going to improve, in my opinion. I am a big fan of RC wines, especially the Pinot. this one comes up short, IMO. Tough comparison following the Kongsgaard (1645 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 12/26/2016: In-laws consumed as I was under the weather. No remarkable complements the following day. (1431 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 5/6/2016 & rated 89 points: At home, splash decanted and drank over 3 hours. First bottle from this stash.

Deep purple/ruby color. Nose of dark fruits, savory notes, . Palate of blackberry, plum, blueberry, roasted meats, violets. Unfortunate strong green bell pepper on the mid palate which, for me, throws the palate/fruit off considerably. However...this had mellowed considerably 2+ hours in and faded into the palate. Tannins are softened and approachable.

First bottle from this stash. As noted, the wine (for me) was considerably better and less green about 2 hours in. It will benefit from a healthy decant - 3+ hours. Score would be lower if it hadn't rallied at the end... (1627 views)
Tasted by Jbird73 on 12/8/2014 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby / garnet in color. the nose is full of dark fruits (blackberry, some blueberry maybe and some definite pepper and jerky perhaps). Really nice once you drink it with a nice balance and a touch of grip still left in the tannins so plenty of time left if you are patient to let it age. I liked this much better after an hour or so of air time so will save 2nd half for day 2 and betting it will be better still. (2152 views)
 Tasted by beezer6 on 10/21/2014 & rated 92 points: CORAVIN ACCESS #1.
Lovely meaty, peppery nose. Nice rich core of dark rustic tarry fruit. Cured meat notes, minerals and black rock.
The palate is very approachable, medium bodied but pretty complex. Not overdone and showing a nice integrated finish. (2070 views)
Tasted by brianngibson on 6/30/2014 & rated 92 points: A really fine vintage for this wine. Great blueberry, violet, pomegranate and soft tannins. (1641 views)
Tasted by DavidDay on 12/27/2013 & rated 91 points: Dark cherries, plums, sweet spices, medium full bodied. Definitely a syrah in the cool climate camp. (1645 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 10/8/2013 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour and served in Govino plastic cups outside. Drank with some roasted chicken.
Good nose of earth, spice and black fruits. In the mouth, this has a muscular side with a light floral note, likely from the use of whole clusters. The acidity gives this good lift. There is a crisp and refreshing finish that calls for you to take another sip. Suprisingly approachable now, with soft tannins, although it is still young. Well done. (1641 views)
Tasted by brianngibson on 9/20/2013 & rated 93 points: Every time I have a bottle from Radio-Coteau, I seem to ask myself, "Why don't I buy more of this?" The last couple of releases I have tried to remember that, and I have been buying more. This is yet another fantastic performance from Eric Sussman. And while I didn't exactly back up the truck, I am glad I at least have another two bottles to come back to for this particular wine.

Blueberry, sweet tobacco, white pepper, and a little spring flower (though not as much as some other vintages and vineyards as I recall). Tannins are surprisingly softened at this point. A soft, caressing, long finish. (1022 views)
Tasted by ledocq on 4/28/2013 flawed bottle: An education: decanted but poured the last sip into a glass so I could get an early taste. It gave up very little in its aroma, just a little mustiness. The taste was the same, like it was sound asleep. Completely different than the joyride that was the previous bottle. 3 hours later, there was a muted, hard-to-peg diluted berry taste and a finish that was more like an exhausted retreat than the rolling thunder I remember last time. In other words: corked, a little bit. And this by no means kept me and a friend from finishing the bottle. It's just that neither of us commented on the experience, unlike when the wine is good.  Tasted by Rollerball on 1/31/2013 & rated 92 points: Everything these guys do seems to have a floral component. Here you've got white pepper and subtler soil tones. (1389 views)
Tasted by ledocq on 11/18/2012 & rated 92 points: Decanted an hour. In the glass, it was inky enough to write a sonnet with. Lovely smell of blueberries and cassis, as promised. Very calm on the palate at first, with deep berries and anise, then an unexpected and nice minerality. Takes its time to unfold, with peppery notes. Some tannins at the end, for sure. This will be crazy good in a couple of years. FYI, it enhanced my enjoyment of Drunken Goat cheese quite a bit. (1647 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
