Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 126 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dbay on 12/26/2015 & rated 90 points: honey and toast aromas, citrus and some honey on the palette. Light bright sparkling wine. (338 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 9/19/2015: From magnum. Served at L&K's farewell party in Corona. Nearing the end of its life's arc, having lost much of its fruit and freshness. Aromas and flavors of grilled toast and roasted nuts with a nice lemon zest vein that brings up the finish. Pinpoint beads and no browning. Drink 'em if you've got 'em. (541 views)
Tasted by DanH on 1/3/2015 & rated 91 points: The age adds a hint of mellow butteriness. Still has a lot of young character. (1322 views)
Tasted by ssspore on 8/16/2014 & rated 91 points: Opened a 3 Liter of this at a fundraiser. It was gone before any of the other wine. It had excellent balance. No aftertaste. Very smooth. I'm glad I have another 3L. (1591 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 7/30/2014 & rated 91 points: Half bottle. Only got a glass. Light body. Apple. Lemon. Yeast. Toast. Dry and wondeful effort for a CA sparkler. (1987 views)
Tasted by royalscam on 5/18/2014 & rated 93 points: This sparkling wine was in a great place this weekend. Too bad last one. Great nose, taste and finish - an excellent surprise (1664 views)
Tasted by DRob on 2/24/2014: Made from Camp Schramsberg, dosage of 14g. Just enough of a hint of fruit for the crowd to like it, not too sweet for the bubbles geeks. Could have gone years and years. (1901 views)
Tasted by Dexter Morgan on 2/21/2014 & rated 93 points: Straw appearance, fine, active bead. Vibrant nose of green apples, quince, Meyer lemons, zesty lime, and marshmallow cream. Vigorous, tangy, and long, with mouthwatering flavors, excellent balance, and a fine, fluffy foam that feels like cotton candy in the mouth. Closes with a crisp, juicy, well-sculpted, mineral-inflected finish that lasts. A lights out effort. (1227 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 12/25/2013: Tasty, classic Schramsberg flavors. Green apple, citrus, mineral, well balanced, and great with food. (1077 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 12/23/2013 & rated 90 points: Med gold colour; toasty biscuit notes with baked apple, lovely definition and purity, complex and enticing; much riper on the palate which gives away it's origins, lovely flavour though. Nutty, macadamia on the finish. (1046 views)
Tasted by Grapewhisperer on 8/14/2013 & rated 75 points: When you get too much power without depth...it's a slap in the face.
I was so disappointed...
The only facet of a cheap sparkling wine that this didn't have was a foul smell. Just to make sure you know I have some perspective; I have had 7 sparkling wines/champagnes in the last two weeks... all were less than $40 and all were heads and shoulders better than the Schramsberg. (1100 views)
Tasted by williames on 6/21/2013 & rated 87 points: Pale yellow. Crisp and refreshing with some yeasty notes developed. (1059 views)
Tasted by yofog on 3/4/2013 & rated 90 points: Serious wine, opened (and sold!) too young. Serious, ripping acidity, but with a body to match. A lithe wine but one that will flesh out in a few years. Great apple and rising bread nose, some orange and lemon pithiness, hint of lime, mostly very appley. (963 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 3/4/2013 & rated 90 points: PnP well chilled. Decent small bubble stream. Pale yellow color. Nice Chardonnay nose, big/intense very fruity flavor profile. Drinking well and a great value at $22. Nothing off. (1490 views)
Tasted by Maznoc on 1/15/2013 & rated 88 points: Closed nose. Great flavor on the palate: Granny Smith apple dominating with an under-layer of wild flower honey. Really nice crispness comes through. Excellent finish - very long and continuing crispness, with the Granny Smith tones mingling with a hint of key lime. (783 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/30/2012: End of Year Sparklers, Mostly Champagne; 12/29/2012-12/30/2012 (SF Wine Trading Company): Medium yellow. Coarse bubbles. Woody nose. Red apple, crisp acidity. Pretty bland. (1706 views)
Tasted by Robert Pavlovich on 12/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Much more approachable than the 09' tasted a couple weeks ago. Paint polish and red apple flesh on the nose. Supple texture, perked up with tart and sweet citrus flavors. Finishes well with good intensity and medium to long persistence. Will wait a couple years before opening another. (1356 views)
Tasted by firstgrowth on 12/24/2012: Christmas Eve 12/24/12 (1123 views)
Tasted by dbarco on 11/22/2012 & rated 87 points: Lively, interesting, pear and citrus. Nice acidity and pleasant, delicate flavors. (1343 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 11/15/2012 & rated 88 points: Opened by Allred at Anvil Club. Steely citrus notes with some green apple. Prefer the Blanc de Noir. (1456 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 11/15/2012 & rated 89 points: Pale color. Mineral, stone and apple notes, followed by chalk and florals. Medium bead. Apple and citrus flavors with a subtle yeasty quality. (1485 views)
Tasted by wdlohr on 11/5/2012 & rated 88 points: This has a pale yellow color with slightly yeast aroma but strong fruit of grape, lemon, grapefruit. It is fruity but crisp and steely with a broad mixture before transition into a dry finish. (1274 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 10/21/2012 & rated 90 points: Plenty of small and lively bubbles. The nose is clean and medium in intensity. Beautiful aromas and flavors of pear, lemon and grapefruit. This is supposed to be a Brut, but i swear there's some residual sugar left on the palate. The acidity is medium plus, the alcohol is medium to medium minus at only 12.7%. There is a nice streak of minerality on the medium long finish. This is a very elegant and well-made wine which keeps you coming back for more. Drink now. I don't see that it is really going to get much better with age. (1245 views)
Tasted by eharkins on 10/16/2012 & rated 88 points: nice crisp toasted apple and citrus notes, medium body medium finish very nice (1543 views)
Tasted by Awilcox on 10/14/2012 & rated 92 points: This is wonderful bubbly. yeasty, clean, pear and citrus but not too intense. I do not generally like champagne/bubbly but I love this. Nice small bubbles, delicate with fruit yet dry. Absolutely great! If you are looking for big and bold, this is not your drink, but for refined and refreshing I could drink this all day unfortunately! (990 views)

2008 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs

Winemaker's Notes: Fruitful aromas of fresh lime and Granny Smith apple, accentuated by nuances of juicy pineapple and lemon grass are complimented by notes of honeycomb and hazelnut from the years of aging //en tirage//. On the palate, the 2008 Blanc de Blancs enters crisp and tangy, unfolding with flavors of lime, pineapple and exotic tropical fruits. Delicious and layered flavors of lemon custard and fresh-from-the-oven brioche follows. The palate finishes with a delicate sweetness and generous acidity that is long and quenching.

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
