Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by fournet on 12/1/2012: I will not give a formal score, though I was leaning 85-86. This was really thin. At first I thought the bottle was flawed, but in actuality I think it is just too thin with no complexity. Did not enjoy. (2957 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 1/2/2012 & rated 92 points: NYears eve in Cape Cod with Drew and parents. With braised beef ribs, carrot and potato stew. Absolutely phenomenal wine with great mountain taste. This had devleoped nicely. It was not really cali smooth, which made it all the more fun. Great finish with spice fruit and dirt. Excellent wine and glad I decided to open it. (3623 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 11/21/2008: Color still youthful no signs of age. Nose of black fruit, tobacco, vanilla, and cedar. A very seductive napa cabernet nose almost liquor like. The palate is ripe with fruit that transitions into a spicy oak finish. There is a noticeable acidity mixed with alcohol on the finish. I think this wine is still in need of some time. (4067 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 2/11/2007 & rated 93 points: Allowed 2 ½ in decanter. Moderately purple color. Great cab nose with a note of oak. Balance is good. Good drying finish mixed with vanilla. I will wait a year before I open the next bottle. (4453 views)
Tasted by trankin on 7/24/2006 & rated 89 points: Cru dinner with Honig Wines (James Beard House): Very different from the 02 Honig Napa cab, this was much more acidic, with substantial tannins which still need tome to integrate. Much fuller-bodied wine, but a touch angular at points. Needs food, but was outstanding with the rare rack of lamb. (5487 views)
Tasted by billingscpa on 3/14/2006: From winery:

A pure expression of Cabernet with black cherry, plum and raspberry, wrapped in spicy French oak, cocoa and a hint of dried herbs. The mid-palate is broad and lush, while the finish is long, with perfectly structured tannins. (3313 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
