| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 44 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by beatles on 5/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Tasted vis-a-vis Cayron, this has a bit more to offer at this stage; concentrated wine with a core of kirsch, sweet Grenache and a local feel, that starts appearing - slowly. Herbs galore, well structured. Still very young indeed. #Henrik&Britta (1215 views) | | Tasted by beatles on 7/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Very fine juice and ready to go, very fine balance here with lots of fruit, Grenache speaks, in the background. Still young, will live for a long time, very precise. #Kandestederne (1940 views) | | Tasted by beatles on 1/19/2019 & rated 91 points: Still young and fresh with a backbone of minerals and primary fruit; grenache is here, but there is a cool, dark and precise air to this wine, certainly showing off the terroir. Where's the beef? Right here, Sir. Will live a long time. (2190 views) | | Tasted by asgerG on 1/13/2019 & rated 91 points: CV. Dark red, red tinge, 5.5. Wonderful southern Rhône bouquet, garrigue, dark fruits, herbs, thyme, rosemary... Harmonious palate, some tannin, bitterness in the long finish. Drink now-2026. This has certainly evolved in to a classic Gigondas to be enjoyed with a solid meal. (1903 views) | | Tasted by acheng on 2/22/2018 & rated 92 points: Well, my last bottle and of course, it is the best by far. Should have waited on the other ones. That said, the double decant and slow ox for 7 hours helped expand the flavour profile a lot. A seamless balanced wine. Great! (2468 views) | | Tasted by Levinsb on 8/26/2017 & rated 91 points: Fully agree w Zweder's assessment. Very nice wine. (2551 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 3/27/2017 & rated 90 points: Weekly tasting group RWP #250: Rhône; Gigondas Part 2 (@ BS): In the bouquet ripe dark berries and cherries, garrigue and cinnamon. On the palate the same dark fruits, red currants as well, some chocolate, herbs and spices juicy acidity and round tannin. Concentrated wine. There is some sweetness as well and the alcohol shows a bit. Nevertheless an excellent wine with a future of another 3+ years. (2732 views) | | Tasted by rrNYC on 2/11/2017 & rated 88 points: My last bottle of this. It didn't seem flawed and wasn't bad, but definitely wasn't up to the level of prior bottles. Maybe just a bad night for my palate. (2399 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 6/21/2016 & rated 91 points: Monthly Tuesday group #010: Southern Rhône excluding C9duP. (By JdB): Beautiful and still primary bouquet with ripe cherries, red and dark berries, and beautiful herbs and spices. On the palate a sweet start with the same ripe fruits, some chocolate and white pepper, good garrigue, acidity and round, soft tannin. Still youthful and already a pleasure. Around 2019 - 2020? 90 - 91 (3294 views) | | Tasted by beatles on 5/17/2016 & rated 91 points: young, rich and concentrated, this is still a cool cat with loads of minerals and garrigue to follow; took this one for the team (my team) as I have 12 (11), but it is much to young to drink, and I shall wait a couple of years before cracking the next one. The balance is fine indeed, and I thinki it will drink very well for10+ years. (2702 views) | | Tasted by AWBryce on 2/9/2016: Nice. Dark blue fruits, some spices. Plush mouthfeel, brooding dark fruit core. (2461 views) | | Tasted by acheng on 12/23/2015 & rated 91 points: Wish I had bought more at the time. Drinking better than ever. Garrigue, lavender and spicy red fruit with a sweet juicy finish and just enough acidity to pull it all together. (2228 views) | | Tasted by StarV100 on 8/6/2015 & rated 92 points: I am a little partial to gigondas. Steely mineral, beaming red fruit, great structural tannins (2480 views) | | Tasted by Mlermontov on 1/1/2015 & rated 91 points: New Years Eve - Family Friends and Fun: young. this is 80% Gren and 20% Syr. - but the nose shows more syrah - with rich ripe blackberry and sweaty, meaty component. with time - the cranberry pops up. Young wine - mid is rich and ripe with lush, mouthcoating fruit. finish has a deep note of herbs and spices. (2913 views) | | Tasted by Lordswood on 9/21/2014 & rated 90 points: Decanted for a few hours beforehand, this was full of chocolate bramble fruits and really nicely resolved tannins.
Very good and extremely enjoyable already, this has still got a few years (3+) ahead of it..... (2645 views) | | Tasted by asgerG on 2/3/2014 & rated 88 points: DnP. Very Young and rough. Great potential. Wait at least 5 years (3203 views) | | Tasted by acheng on 8/19/2013 & rated 91 points: Similar notes as last one. (3813 views) | | Tasted by soyhead on 8/6/2013 & rated 88 points: Nose - cherry, herbs Mouth - ripe cherry fruit, with some herbality. Complex, slightly bitter, food wine. (3472 views) | | Tasted by acheng on 7/30/2013 & rated 91 points: Opulent lavender, red fruit, spicy and excellent acidity to round things up. Rich ,generous and long. Excellent. (3051 views) | | Tasted by Tarrant on 5/8/2013 & rated 91 points: Excellent Gigondas, really enjoyable - Dark, full bodied with a nose of plum, cherry, lavendar, spice and vanilla, excellent structure and balance, intense, huge, off dry and dusty on the palate with terrific length, awesome! (91 Points). 91 pts (2547 views) | | Tasted by tareus on 2/2/2013 & rated 87 points: Decanted three hours. Even so, this was quite reserved on the nose; on the palate it was very backward with high tannins and a cloying, almost chalk-like texture. With four people at the table this was nonetheless left unfinished. As an accompaniment to strong cheeses it did the trick, but all agreed that it could not (yet?) stand on its own. Verdict: lay them on their backs until at least 2014-2015 all the while hoping for the best, following which the score (and the drinking experience) could improve quite a bit. (2277 views) | | Tasted by Doughkg on 1/30/2013 & rated 89 points: Very nice after decanting for one hour. Good value. The wine in garnet/purple and body is Medium/Full. (2287 views) | | Tasted by bzell on 1/17/2013 & rated 92 points: Very good wine with nice floral bouquet and raspberries on the palate the only reason I didn't give the wine a higher rating is I thought it was a little thin in the mouth but overall a very good wine at a nice price point. | Domaine du Grapillon d'Or Producer websiteRed Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
