Den mörka frukten återkommer i munnen, liksom lakritsen. Vinet är mer än medelfylligt, men jag hade önskat lite mer markerad syra för ett ökat djup. The wine is light and fresh with a crisp acidity that opens the palate. The flavors in the mouth are very light, and somewhat masked by the acidity. There is a subtle raspberry and cranberry that briefly holds on the rather short mineral aftertaste finish. (1042 views) |

It's not just good for the price like a $16 Cotes du Rhone, but a generously expressive fine wine with terroir that continues to evolve with air. It's voluptuous and concentrated with a specifically exotic bouquet and tons of mineral that only a dry Douro can express. The 14.5% alcohol is in the range of many Spanish reds at the same price and it's an apt comparison. But unlike the typical Spanish counterparts, the Vallado does not come across as either "modern" (oaky and hot) or "rustic" (dirty) which the Spanish ones tend to fall on one side of the fence or the other. The mouthfeel of the Vallado more than carries the alcohol and keeps it in an Old World style, and that's the rarest quality of all. That isn't something I think you're going to find very often in Spain, France, or Italy. (1720 views) |
