| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 123 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by LWI on 2/11/2024 & rated 91 points: Middag og noen Bordeaux 80-tall: Blind. (542 views) | | Tasted by Neecies on 4/12/2023: Erik's. Medium gold, nose of apple sauce, persimmon and light petrol. On the palate, a bit sweet for a Sec but overall a good showing. (895 views) | | Tasted by dbkitc on 2/4/2022 & rated 92 points: This has come a long way from the bottle tasted in 2017. Less flamboyant and waxy. Color remains golden yet the nose is more geared toward ripe stone fruit. Grape skin. Palate is together and on the maturity plateau. Nicely intense, it ever so slightly tickles the tongue. Yellow plum fruit with excellent acidity. This is lovely and should remain so for years. (92) (2117 views) | | Tasted by bvivio on 12/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Appearance: medium gold, some copper highlights at the edges, medium tearing, no gas nor sediment.
Nose: clean, pronounced intensity, developing, golden apple, preserved lemon, quince, chamomile, honey, wool, white flowers, beeswax, dried persimmon.
Palate: dry, high acid, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium+ body, medium+ intensity, long finish, golden apple, preserved lemon, quince, chamomile, honey, wool, white flowers, beeswax, dried persimmon. (1983 views) | | Tasted by bajayngo on 9/29/2021: Holding beautiful with plenty of honeycomb, flowers, wool and wax. Sharp of the palate with piercing citrus fruit and good weight. Just a touch of sharp acids. (2037 views) | | Tasted by olemski on 5/9/2021 & rated 93 points: This second and last bottle of mine was clearly better than the first. Just perfectly integrated, sinewey and almost fat, harmony all the way. Aromas of wet dog, baked citrus and honey. In the mouth there's also a slightly more bitter element towards the end of the curve that might be called 'bonfire'. It does not detract from the total impression, in fact. Rather the opposite. A very satisfying wine. (2239 views) | | Tasted by mdanyc on 5/17/2020 & rated 92 points: First bottle of Huet sec for me, and it lives up to all the hype. Opened and poured out some almost immediately for a drink before dinner, then more with dinner (Szechuan pork noodles) and a little kept until the next day. Outstanding at all points. Has a slightly heavier feeling in the mouth than other chenin blancs but not unpleasant. My first impression was sweetness but then decided it was mainly fruit. The sweetness is there but subtle. Consumed at cellar temp, room temp by the end of the evening and this definitely optimized it for me. (2685 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 5/12/2020 & rated 91 points: So I’ve decided that the sec Huets are probably best 3-6 years. At 9 years, however, this was a good bottle without the oxidation I often find in older whites. A slight hay tint to the wine, the nose is clean with upfront lemon and cinnamon notes. Round, oaky-Chardonnay like and grass notes with a very lemony finish that lingers. Blind may have been pegged as a Cali- Char and not Loire Chenin. Drink now/ (2420 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 11/18/2019 & rated 87 points: I used to take Rimmerman’s ideas On aging but, particularly with dry whites like these Huet’s and the Boulay’s, Champagne and even Chardonnay based whites from France or elsewhere, it doesn’t work for me. They just end up being oxidative messes. This wine was showing hints of oxidation behind lime, ash and crushed granite notes. I think it would have been better in its relative youth and I’ve moved drinking windows for the sec whites to just a few years. (2898 views) | | Tasted by SiR on 9/21/2019 & rated 92 points: 13.5% - Clear, med to deep straw / clean, med+ intensity - pear & pear eau-de-vie (no unpleasant heat though), dried ginger, white flower, creamy with a mineral edge / dry, med to high acidity, med to full body with a classy creamy texture, med+ intensity, long finish. After looking at my last note two years ago, this is quite in line as it remains elegant and with a certain finesse and balance. 92(+) (2781 views) | | Tasted by drrobvino on 10/28/2018 & rated 92 points: Bottle #3 of 4. This is a Sec bottling, so ~6g/L residual sugar in this bottling, weighing in at 13.5% abv. No oak, no malolactic fermentation. Honeysuckle, peach, lanolin, and wet stones on the nose and palate. Quite searing acidity to balance out the mild sweetness, leaving a beautifully energetic and lingering finish. Drink now through 2022+. (3656 views) | | Tasted by Casa HeRo on 9/29/2018 & rated 91 points: Igjen leverer denne, taklet en halv spicy tikka masala på en perfekt måte (2806 views) | | Tasted by Dale M on 9/3/2018 & rated 92 points: The nose had a slight oxidative quality that might have deterred me in the past, but a recent good run of Lopez Heredia reds have me re-thinking my opinion on this specific trait. The palate was fresh as a daisy - so this wasn’t any type of weird pre-mox or other flaws kicking, but Chenin doing its aged Chenin thing which can be a funky ride sometimes. Fresh quince and ginger augment some citrus juices, a terrific dry mineral finish. Yum. (3104 views) | | Tasted by ManuKey on 8/31/2018 & rated 90 points: La robe du vin est or étincellant. (2173 views) | | Tasted by AV2012 on 7/18/2018: Fullbodied, creamy andconcentrated. Pleasant sweetness and beautiful juiciness. Rich, long and with a very long taste. Charmer, but with a green note. (2759 views) | | Tasted by mat600 on 4/15/2018 & rated 90 points: Vin relativement fermé au départ. Belle longueur. 90 sur 100. (3032 views) | | Tasted by ManuKey on 2/24/2018 & rated 90 points: 1ère de 3 bouteilles. (1731 views) | | Tasted by Casa HeRo on 1/1/2018 & rated 91 points: Meget god til helstekt kalkunfilet. (2439 views) | | Tasted by Overlook on 12/26/2017: Oxidized apples, honeysuckle and herbs. Lemon zest. Med+ body, towards off-dry, med+ acidity. The oxidized note on the nose is not on the palate, fine fresh acidity and floral/herbal notes. Honey, touch oak in med+ long finish. Perfect match with halibut and herb sauce with butter. (2549 views) | | Tasted by skp88 on 11/7/2017 & rated 85 points: Flacid and insipid, even though it should still be solidly in its drinking window (2779 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/15/2017 & rated 92 points: Really good showing for this wine. Glad I left half for the next day because it really evolved nicely. Peachy, honeycomb, brisk acidity, stony minerals, white tea, chalk dust, sweet yellow flowers - lovely stuff. (2404 views) | | Tasted by JimmyBubbles on 8/4/2017 & rated 93 points: Finura y delicadez, fruta blanco, limón en conserva, mineralidad extrema, aún joven.
(2639 views) | | Tasted by SiR on 7/1/2017 & rated 92 points: 13.5% - Clear, med to deep straw / clean, med to pronounced intensity - ripe Bartlett pear, flower honey, wool, orange blossom, ginger snaps, mineral / dry, med+ refreshing acidity, med to full body, pronounced intensity, lingering finish with all the olfactive notes carrying through the finish. Refined and powerful at the same time. I'll try to hold on for my other bottle. 92+ (2628 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
