It is not as vibrant as it was in the past. Dark fruit on tne nose. The palate is dark berries, tobacco and a touch of thyme. The finish was moderate. (917 views) | | Tasted by markcic on 4/25/2019 & rated 90 points: From a 375. Opened and lit sit for an hour. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate was blueberry, dark plums and a hint of thyme. A moderate to long finish. (892 views) | | Tasted by Copay on 12/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Used aerator when decanted. Drank immediately. Deep purple color. Very rich mouth feel. Leather was predominant. Loved it. (2231 views) | | Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 1/5/2016: The note below is accurate for us. Tertiary indeed. Good balance, too. Although we have fallen out of love with California Cabernet generally, we really enjoyed this one over four nights, gassed and refrigerated in between. (Given as a gift; it was bought from the winery on release, we believe.) (2971 views) | | Tasted by mflesh on 11/17/2015: So, this is the second bottle of Cyrus I've ever had in my life so I'm not exactly a Cyrus expert and "groupie" like I know some are. I was told or at least led to believe that this is one of the age-able wines of the northern Sonoma region, but I'm not so sure of that. This wine tonight truly had some tertiary characteristics starting to peek in. Cork was a medium cherry stain upon extraction. Wine was poured to a dark maroon. Nose was blackberry and spice. The wine was served PNP, and the wine was mostly black licorice on the front with some fig and a mild raisin note, and smelled with some mild age. The middle of the wine was dark, a little bit of flint, but this is where mushroom, fig, apricot, and raisin started to crescendo to the middle. The finish was thick and dense, but a little tart and herbaceous. Tannin is here, but on a whole the 2010 vintage has much more tannin and is much more exuberant. Bottle was not purchased directly from the winery but was purchased in a store. This is not a bad wine, but at $50 QPR, I think I'd choose a lot of other things. Drink now. Done by 2018. (2479 views) | | Tasted by Alro on 11/20/2014 & rated 90 points: Still quite young. air for about an hour. Didn't really open until sitting in the glass. great texture and mouthfeel. (2727 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Pauley on 2/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Absolutely stunning in appearance and taste; deep red color, long fingers and a rich full flavor make this a great wine for that special occasion. (2708 views) | | Tasted by WI WineLover on 4/7/2013 & rated 93 points: Definitely the favorite at a blind tasting (3253 views) | | Tasted by tantotinto on 3/26/2013 & rated 92 points: This is a blend of classic Bordeaux varietals. Opaque purple. Great nose of ripe fruit, spice and coffee. Ripe black and red fruit, tobacco and earth. Very smooth, tempered tannins and excellent acidity in the finish. Very much fruit forward and new world in style but more nuance and better balance than most. Lip smacking good. My wife and I both liked it. | Alexander Valley Vineyards Producer website Alexander Valley Vineyards is owned and operated by the Harry Wetzel family. Founded in 1975, it is located on Cyrus Alexander's old homestead. The Wetzel Family Estate now grows fourteen grape varieties, on diverse sites stretching from the banks of the Russian River up onto the hillsides. Each grape variety is matched to a specific soil type and exposure. Vineyard Manager Mark Houser and Winemaker Kevin Hall work as a team to maximize fruit flavor in the vineyard and to create balanced wines that capture the grapes’ varietal characteristics. Hank Wetzel oversees the vineyard and winery operations, and his wife Linda continues to oversee administration. Now the third generation of Wetzels has joined the winery. Harry Wetzel, IV is assistant winemaker while younger brother Robert is the National Sales Manager. Alexander Valley Vineyards produces 100,000 cases annually, 17 varietal wines and proprietary blends. Seventy-five percent of AVV’s production is red wine. Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon constitute roughly half of total production. Other varietals include Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Gewurztraminer, Syrah, Sangiovese, Viognier, and Cabernet Franc.2008 Alexander Valley Vineyards CyrusWine Data

These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyAlexander Valley Alexander Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia
