But other strong vintages might be able to hang in longer. It was enjoyable with decent umami/balsamic, dust, red fruit, fig. Not a long lasting finish. But we still enjoyed it. Surprisingly dark purple hue for a 2011 Graves. While there was not much tannin, it also was surprisingly structured and broad-shouldered. Quite rich and vibrant. The fruit wasn’t primary but it was pronounced. Very enjoyable and rather impressive, (619 views) | | Tasted by Wespi1 on 9/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Way better than expected. Promising nose, OK palate (dark fruit). Tannins OK. Firm structure. Lovely, considering this case was bought in a super marché some time ago. (927 views) | | Tasted by Phenol73 on 11/15/2015 & rated 89 points: (Decanter Fine Wine Encounter 2015) :: Some nice complexity; good left bank character. A touch volatile; big & rich mouthfeel. (4388 views) | | Tasted by kmacSF on 12/18/2014 & rated 89 points: Well balanced and slow revealing Bordeaux. (2431 views) | | Tasted by Woodbridge Brad on 10/2/2014 & rated 88 points: Bright deep color. The nose is smoky and minty with a hint of tobacco and berries. In the mouth the it has good acid and moderate tannins, then a good fruit finish with a drying tannins. This was the first 2011 I tasted that might age more that a few years. (4516 views) | | Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 6/14/2014: peppery nose, fresh tight, young quite tannic refreshing (4525 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 5/8/2014 flawed bottle: UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2011 (Amsterdam): Corked. This is always sad…. Already half a bottle empty at a professional tasting and the producer did not taste the wine before pouring the it. And he agreed the wine was corked… What to think about the "professionals"….?... (3535 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 5/8/2014 & rated 86 points: UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2011 (Amsterdam): See previous note. The second bottle was ok. Red and dark forest fruits in both the bouquet and on the palate. Ok acidity and drying tannin in the finish. Not extremely concentrated. An ok wine, but one of the least impressive ones in this tasting. Would like to try again around 2017 or 18. 86 for now. (4900 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 2/19/2014 & rated 84 points: Light in color, style and depth, with bright, red berries and spice, from a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the wine is dry in the tart finish. (2267 views) | | Tasted by yofog on 1/23/2014 & rated 86 points: Oaky, and both a little riper than I like and a lot more extracted than I like. Definitely going for a burly style in this vintage, which I think came across as awkward. (1327 views) | | Tasted by PanosKakaviatos on 1/17/2014 & rated 89 points: Bordeaux 2011 from bottle (Park Hyatt Hotel, Washington D.C.): A noticeable step up following Chantegrive. Eric Perrin explained that their Cabernets were "very ripe" albeit a small harvest. He said that for his terroir, the Cabernet was better than Merlot. This blend of 70-30 Cab-Merlot displays medium concentration and medium body, with a fine palate texture and a rather smooth albeit short finish. There is a certain elegance about this wine that makes it quite endearing. (3260 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 4/25/2012 & rated 87 points: This wine is medium bodied with fresh and bright cranberry, cassis and plums. 86-89 Pts (2660 views) |

It is said that in the 18th century this wine was introduced to the Sultan of Constantinople’s palace because of its clarity and was called “mineral water from Carbonnieux”, thus defying the Islamic law. - Read more about Chateau Carbonnieux

Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.France Vins de France (Office National Interprofessionnel des Vins ) | Pages Vins, Directory of French Winegrowers | French Wine (Wikipedia)

History of Bordeaux
History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification
"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson
"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman "The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson
"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson
"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon RimmermanGraves Vins de Graves (Conseil des Vins de Graves) - Read more about Pessac Leogan Graves and its winesPessac-Léognan Pessac-Leognan reds: Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Soil: Predominantly gravel and sandy rock, with varying proportions of clay and sandstone Surface Area: 1,491 ha
