 Tasted by SiR on 4/12/2014 & rated 90 points: 12.0% - clear, bright lemon with a hint of green / clean, med- intensity - citrus, white flower, cucumber like freshness, dill, good spice note as it warms up a bit / dry, med to high zippy acidity, light body, med intensity, mineral and probably the best thing that could be paired with a bouillabaisse. I think this improved over the few bottles I had last year, and the Clos des Briords stands out more for this vintage in comparison to the 2010's. (2390 views)

-saline, minerality, some citrus
-med+ acidity, light weight and concentration but great late mid-palate intensity from the acidity and minerality, just a touch of citrus, decent finish

(Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie Clos des Briords) From old vines, about 70-year old vines, on granite. The target yield here was 50 hl/ha but with the rot discarded the eventual figure was closer to 40 hl/ha. This cuvée is due to be bottled at the beginning of May. Pure pear fruit on the nose, which is clean, lightly creamy, with some fresh herbal tendencies. Rather a supple start to plate, full but more tense in the middle, and a more solid feel to the weight and substance of the wine. Quite a correct and upright acid backbone. Still showing a gentle prickle of carbon dioxide as well. Really fine potential here.  16-17 points

Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine

Muscadet (mus-ka-DAY) is a region in the western part of the Loire valley, near the city of Nantes. White wines from Muscadet are made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape. They tend to be light in color and body, and are intensely mineral driven. They are thought to be a perfect complement to raw oysters from the nearby coast. Muscadets are gleefully paired, though, with any fresh shellfish or other seafood.

There are a couple of appellations in Muscadet, the best of which is considered to be Muscadet de Sevre et Maine. And the best bottles from that appellation are aged sur-lie, or on the lees, the musty mix of yeasts and other post-fermentation solids. This aging provides flavor complexity that can be missing in other bottles.
