Community Tasting Notes (average 88.8 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mossrose on 7/28/2018 & rated 91 points: Highly unusual blend of 90% Mourvedre for a French wine, with the remainder of 10% Grenache. Pitch black to the edge. Surprisingly upfront and rounded instead of being gripingly tannic. Enters the mouth fruity, dry. and acidic. Took about 5 days after being opened for the tannic grip to fully reassert itself.  Tasted by mdkraft99 on 7/27/2018 & rated 88 points: Agree with note by guribh- nice blend but flavors are fading, some dark fruits, graphite, faint hint of olive tapenade, medium finish - was better a couple uears ago, time to drink up for sure (534 views)
Tasted by guribh on 4/6/2018 & rated 87 points: Drying out... Still useful, but I'd drink up within the next year or two. Rather simple, but quite nice, all said and done. (665 views)
Tasted by donash.com on 7/17/2014 & rated 89 points: - Ruby color - Really nice with some brea. (1919 views)
 Tasted by donash.com on 4/8/2014 & rated 88 points: - Crimsom color. (2095 views)
Tasted by donash.com on 2/17/2014 & rated 89 points: - Ruby color - Very nice blend. (1798 views)
Tasted by Baudelaire on 11/7/2013 & rated 89 points: Developing very nicely! (2040 views)
Tasted by simonsmd on 8/18/2013 & rated 89 points: Very bold dark fruit instantly, nice round plum, little acidic on finish (2192 views)
Tasted by Baudelaire on 7/4/2013 & rated 89 points: Really improving nicely--this bottle was several steps beyond the one I had a few months ago. Nice harmony of black plum, black cherry, tar, and iron/cedar. Excellent with a grilled flank steak. (1159 views)
Tasted by haBu on 6/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Dark, concentrated southern tier, full of dark fruit, dry leather, first taste is a massive in the mouth joyfulness with a long chewy finish. This wine seems to beg to be decanted. I'll update this later as I think the best is yet to come as the air gets to it. (1088 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 4/25/2013 & rated 90 points: Another lovely bottle. Full of dark, savage fruit, with pepper and tar notes. A wine that begs for meat, with the tannins quite noticeable, yet ameliorates with air. A bit more stuffing on the mid-palate would really make this sing. Good value wine. (1402 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 4/5/2013 & rated 91 points: This shows lots of Mouvedre character; blackberries, licorice, pepper and tar. Ample sturcture almost begs for some decanting or cellaring. Quite a big shouldered, meaty wine and nice value to boot. (1256 views)
Tasted by jayw on 3/17/2013: Dark berrys, bitter herbs, and animal hide, with sweet plum emerging at the end to redeem this wild, rustic Southern Rhone. (1100 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 2/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Deep wine, with load of black fruits, tar and violets. Quite structured, with fine grained tannins that beg for decanting or cellar time. Good concentration, fine length. Wish I had the patience to age this. Nice value at $14. (1224 views)
Tasted by Baudelaire on 2/7/2013 & rated 85 points: I liked this better than I did 7 months ago. The bitterness I found last time is much reduced, and overall the taste is more harmonious, particularly on day 2. (955 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 1/30/2013 & rated 89 points: Fairly ambitious wine for the price. Lots of dark fruits, like blackberry and plumbs. A bit of game and licorice as well, with some hefty tannins. This was much better on day two, when the tannins were softer. This seems like it could be a medium term ager. (918 views)
Tasted by donash.com on 1/26/2013 & rated 90 points: - Garnet color and aromas of blackberry. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, hazelnut and dusty with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a medium finish. (733 views)
Tasted by jayw on 1/25/2013: Fruit forward berry-flavored wine with wild herbs and fur; spicy rustic coffee finish. Pleasant untamed quality; a nice change from more Grenache-dominated Southern Rhones. (699 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/2/2013 & rated 85 points: 2009 & 2010 Cotes du Rhone and Neighbors Blindtasted (Rich and Peggy's Home in Los Altos, California): Group's #3 (my #7) – 43 pts.; 1, 3, 1, 1 - opaque purple red violet color; reduction, tart black fruit, graphite nose; tight, reduction, tart black fruit, graphite, anise palate with a hollow middle; needs 2-3 years; medium-plus finish (90% Mourvedre, 10% Grenache) (1294 views)
Tasted by Rock Cellars on 12/9/2012 & rated 90 points: The wine has a very deep purple color and an instant bouquet of dark cerries and fruits. It is very fruit forward , and medium to full bodied with a realtively long fruit driven finish. The wine is young and will balance out over the next year if you can wait to consume it. Great by itself and with food. The wine is a crowd pleaser now that will gain complexity. (816 views)
Tasted by dnsteadman on 11/30/2012 & rated 88 points: This was a decent bottle of wine but lacked some maturity. The flavors have not fully mellowed so it was not as smooth as I prefer. I have another bottle in the cellar that will probably age another 2 years before I consume it. (972 views)
Tasted by ekenneth on 11/21/2012 & rated 89 points: Interesting funky mouvedre blend, a decent buy at $25 (1154 views)
Tasted by Baudelaire on 7/8/2012 & rated 80 points: Dark purple-red; wine coats the glass after a swirl and a sip. The taste, which I didn't particularly care for, had both a sweetness and a bitterness--kind of a plum-raisin laced with a dash of Suze liqueur and a hint of almost syrupy sugar. The wine is 90% mourvèdre, which probably means that I don't like a wine composed of so much mourvèdre. I'm going to wait a year on the next bottle and see what happens. (1668 views)
Tasted by vruyr on 6/21/2012: Spicy (1684 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
