(169 views) | | Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 5/18/2022 & rated 88 points: A little pruny and still some jam. But enjoyed by many. (529 views) | | Tasted by timjr on 5/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Interesting... raisiny, a bit acidic. Got better after a week in a partly empty (but vacuum pumped) bottle. Worked pretty well with grilled burgers. (852 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 2/15/2021 & rated 93 points: So rich and so much texture... really feel like I need to hold some of these Zinfandels for a longer period of time! (989 views) | | Tasted by DavidDay on 11/22/2020 & rated 90 points: This wine has really held up well, it survived a plane flight to Florida and a car ride back to Michigan, plus aged nine years. Well balanced, fruit still red berry, and balanced with the acidity. (1078 views) | | Tasted by DavidDay on 11/17/2020 & rated 87 points: This wine is still hanging there, the fruit is fading, but it is still balanced, if you have any drink soon. (1001 views) | | Tasted by River Rat on 3/3/2019: This wine is in a nice place at this time. Taking on some secondary characteristics. Really mellow, balanced, with some elegance. Drinking window is way off. (1708 views) | | Tasted by JuliannaDHS on 2/3/2019 & rated 91 points: A few years has been very kind to this. Still has ripe fruit flavors but they are now subdued and balanced. Full-bodied and delicious. (1140 views) | | Tasted by David_T on 10/5/2018: Likely a bit past peak, the fruit flavors are starting to fade. Structural elements fully integrated. Drink now. (1155 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 3/30/2018 & rated 92 points: Great opener to a great tasting w/ KenV (1470 views) | | Tasted by dlstrauss on 1/12/2018 & rated 91 points: 91 day two. (1593 views) | | Tasted by df1962 on 11/3/2017 & rated 90 points: PnD 1/2 bottle let air for 1hr. Seems I could not count last year as this is in fact my last bottle. Dense dark purple from core to almost the rim which is starting to go orange. Fresh and herbal on the nose with a pruny note. Medium(+)with soft fleshy ripe fruit skin tannins. Plump fat fruit flavours with a touch of acidity on the palate but fig prune and blackberry dominate with a slight oxidative note. In a nice place that suggests drinking up ASAP. (1215 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 10/4/2017 & rated 94 points: Absolutely excellent Zinfandel (1210 views) | | Tasted by acyso on 5/15/2017: Served double blind. This was opened two days prior and stored under vacuum. A very dark nose with a whole bunch of cheap raspberry jam. This wine is over-fruited, without sufficient structure, acidity, or even tannin. Comes off quite nondescript, with just lots of fruit and a slight hint of brown spice. (2478 views) | | Tasted by Acohen on 9/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Dark blueberry, blackberry with slight spice notes and very smooth finish (2107 views) | | Tasted by gazinho on 8/30/2016 & rated 90 points: This is a very good 'complete' wine although not overly complex. A good dark garnet in colour and although filtered on decanting shows a diffuse cloudiness, the bottle had no sediment. The full fresh fruitiness (cherry bias/strawberry) is forward and balanced by a discreet acidity and spiciness. Tannins & oakeyness are in check, the finish is persistent but a bit hot (alcohol). (1735 views) | | Tasted by df1962 on 5/10/2016 & rated 90 points: Very consistent with previous note. In a great drinking place right now that I would not risk missing not that I need to worry as this was my last bottle. What a great accomplishment in what was reported to be such a challenging vintage. (1968 views) | | Tasted by gwkozar on 2/13/2016 & rated 90 points: POP. Served with Korean spiced pork shoulder. Went well with spices, nice acidity, started to improve after 1 hour, but mostly done by then. (2299 views) | | Tasted by Coupe 60 on 1/22/2016 & rated 91 points: PnP, and had with London Broil. Really shined at end of bottle as it opened up. Red fruit, great structure, hint of spice. Really liked it... (2150 views) | | Tasted by joet626 on 1/17/2016 & rated 91 points: Very nice acidity on this. Light and bright with lots of red fruit flavor (1767 views) | | Tasted by SWHighlander on 12/26/2015: Jammy but not too much so. Mix of red and black fruit. Nice acidity. Tannins still a bit tight. Might have been great with 1 hour decanted (or cellared for another year or two) but we didn't try it this way. (1926 views) | | Tasted by Martin Redmond on 12/8/2015 & rated 91 points: '11 was a challenging vintage, but the great ones find a way. And so it is with this wine. It's aromatic, and poised, with lively acidity and well integrated tannins that give way to juicy, very appealing black and red raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, and spice fruit flavors. Lingering finish. Great value at $22! (1755 views) | | Tasted by phattyjrb on 10/31/2015 & rated 91 points: terrific (1617 views) | | Tasted by David_T on 9/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Notes match my last bottle though the nose isn't quite as complex so to a 90 from a 91. Still drinking very well with all of the structural notes fully integrated. I have two bottles left and plan to drink one each of the next two years. | Bedrock Wine Co. Producer website2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine ZinfandelWinemaker Notes: If there is any wine of the 2011 releases that accurately demonstrates the poised, claret-like, character of the 2011 vintage it is the 2011 Sonoma Valley Old-Vine. The late ripening Stellwagen Vineyard once again was included into this cuvee to lend its dark fruit, and Casa Santinamaria, another vineyard originally slated for vineyard designation, was included for its beautiful spice. The remainder of the wine is composed of Zinfandel from the terraced Los Chamizal Vineyard, some younger vine fruit from Rossi Ranch in Kenwood, a few barrels of Monte Rosso Zinfandel, and a dollop of old-vine Carignane and Mourvedre from my Bedrock Vineyard. This is old-school Zin- bright, focused, and energetic. Like previous releases of this wine, I would expect it will reward a year or so of short-term aging. Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
