Serious depth and weight and just pure, delicious (but not outrageous) Paso fruit. My only criticism of this wine is the label which looks like Van Gogh drawing a dormant vine w/roots about six years before he moved to Southern France and discovered the sun. Come on, y'all. It has all of the things I love about it in spades: honeysuckle, blackberry liqueur and char in the nose, opulent black berry fruit in the mouth, finishing with a hint of pepper and mocha. It totally goes toe to toe with the truffle burger at Eden Burger. Every vintage, every time. Great juice. Decanted for about 2 hours, and it needs it still. (1099 views)

 Tasted by eodjack on 5/27/2015 & rated 94 points: Popped and drank, non-blind. Wonderful wine! Inky and full-bodied with a nose of dark fruit and floral accents (seemingly from the stellar Denner Viognier component.) Hits the tongue with blackberry and dark fruit finishing into earth and a touch of pepper, lingering for a while. Smooth and well-integrated tannins, with great mouth-feel/texture and balancing out nicely. This is evolving very nicely as compared to a year ago, much smoother, will still benefit from a short cellar nap (1 more year.) Low alcohol content comparitively to many HUGE central coast syrahs at 14.3%. No alcohol bomb here! Stellar effort here. (1372 views)

 Tasted by mrmedoes on 9/10/2014 & rated 95 points: I've always said I've preferred Denner's Ditch Digger, but I'm here to repent. This is KILLER syrah, just deep, inky, unabashed Paso syrah - everything that's good and so little that is bad. Black fruit, some smoked meats, some earth and a little pepper on the nose, into a silky smooth mouthfeel, but with a complexity that I struggle to describe. It'll live for ages, but with some air, you shouldn't be afraid to drink now if you're ready for the intensity. That said, I'm not sure the intensity will smooth out, but that's part of what makes this what it is. (1657 views)

A thick watery rim sets the wine that is dark garnet with plum skin hues. Color holds in the thick, slow falling legs. moderate + concentration, viscosity and extraction.
On the nose aromas are quick on the attack with blackberry, plum, violets, black licorice, smoked aged red meat, tar, pepper and rosemary/camphor notes.
Full bodied on the palate with moderate + acidity, medium minus refined tannin. Exacting flavors of blackberry, violets, black licorice, bacon, strawberry pie, pepper and cinnamon spice, rosemary, smoke and red meats. The finish is balanced and refined and lingers pleasantly.

 Tasted by caeleric on 6/14/2014: popped in the am, slow ox'd in the fridge until the evening. this is a deftly made wine. certainly ripe and new world, with an oak treatment to provide a plush texture, but everything was balanced and pure and focused. lots of deep black and purple fruits, with lovely concentration and meaty secondaries. I loved this today, and it will age very well. If scoring, 93-95. Wish I had more. (1864 views)

 Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/12/2014 & rated 96 points: Awesome Dinner with Friends (Erasmus, SQN, Saxum, Pride, Dehlinger++) (Out and about): Wow. My first time trying this wine IIRC. Wow. The nose is big but not over powering. Ripe black raspberries, Framboise, black pepper and a bit of wet, moist earth. On the palate, this is smooth and complex. Lush, lush texture. Great red and purple fruit. Nice balance. Long finish. Everyone's favorite fro this flight it seemed. (2868 views)
 Tasted by JERB on 12/21/2013 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 2+ hours. The nose was intense and intoxicating. Each of us took at least a couple of minutes to just bury our nose in the glass before we tasted the wine! On the nose we got blackberries, a little baking spice and some floral notes. The taste was loaded with really dark, intense fruit - more blackberries! Long finish. In short, a terrific wine!

This was a party for 18 friends. The Dirt Worshipper was one of the standout wines of the night from amongst a dozen wines. (1838 views)

 Tasted by AllRed on 5/19/2013 & rated 94 points: Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: 2009 Gigondas (Hoyer's): Deep inky color with aromas of black fruit, incense, florals and spice. Full-bodied with firm, sweet tannins that are remarkably approachable given the structure and power here. Flavors of blue and black fruit, mineral, spice and blackberry liqueur. Long finish.  Tasted by wine strategies on 2/15/2013: Slow-O 2 hours, served non-blind. I had this just a few weeks after release, and again tonight. And while it's gotten better, I mean that in the relative context to when I had it 6 months ago as well as the overarching style. It has calmed down, and seems to be coming together nicely, but at the end of the day it's not my cup of tea as I prefer a more restrained, nuanced style of wine. More acid than I was expecting, but about (or less) what I was expecting in terms of overall structure and complexity. This is a meal in itself and clearly in the gobs-O-fruit/alcohol, sappy, jammy cocktail wine genre. Relative to that style, it was better than most I've been offered (made?) to suffer through in this price category. IIRC, abv was (listed) 14,3%. Better than the '09, imo. Drink thru 2017

 Tasted by iWineReport on 11/24/2012: The 2010 Denner 'The Dirt Worshipper' reminds me of a mix of Northern Rhone terroir and California fruit. It offers a generous serving of dark berries, sweet plum, cherry cobbler, violets, but then you get some salty black olives and irony mineral notes. Dense and focused with plenty of depth and concentration but remains fresh from the underlying acidity and minerality. The finish is long and persistent dosing out loads of fruit. Excellent right now, but would love to see this again after a few years in bottle. Composed of 93% Syrah, 7% Viognier, aged 16 months in barriques, 60% Neutral, 30% Once Used French and Hungarian, 10% New French. Fermented 30% Whole Cluster.
