One of the better Syrah's I have ever had. Still plenty of life left in this wine. I wish I had more! (281 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 4/18/2022 & rated 93 points: Just a fabulous Paso Syrah. Having nearly 12 years on this wine helps. TH syrahs can be pretty tough coming right out of the chute. This had a 2 hour decant. Nice, but not overpowering fruit and silky tannins. (299 views) | | Tasted by VlgJeff on 2/3/2022 & rated 90 points: PnP -- even though we usually air out most wines -- based on the TN of 3/8/20 by wine247365. Glad we didn't air this wine out, except for 10 minutes to dissipate the initial Syrah "funk", as the last half glass - about an hour and a half after opening - really began to fade. Between the funk blowing off and the wine fading, we found a medium to plus bodied wine with lots of dark red fruit, black fruit, earth and a bit more acidity than needed to balance. Recommend drinking soon. (315 views) | | Tasted by wine247365 on 3/8/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium aromas, blueberry, vanilla, some oak...I think it's time to drink up as the peak has passed and the future won't be kind to it as it seemed to be about ready to start falling apart. (865 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 12/27/2019 & rated 93 points: Another great wine from TH. The near 10 years of age have done well for it. One of the better Syrahs from Paso, for sure. (877 views) | | Tasted by Dan & Patti on 7/25/2017 & rated 94 points: Berry front, rich blackberry, long dark fruit mouthfiling finish... (1499 views) | | Tasted by Stevere on 7/14/2017 & rated 92 points: Conditional 92: this wine took 3 or 4 hours to drink well. Judging it after only 1 hour of air really does not do it justice. Tasted against 2009 Saxum Bone Rock, 2011 Paix Sur Terre Either Side of the Hill, and 2008 Alban Reva, some tough competition. Big dark fruit intensity and a lovely sweetness emerged after 3 hours - yes, it took that long to be in the same ballpark as the others. Please - don't judge this wine without 3 or more hours of air. (1380 views) | | Tasted by vin0vin0 on 3/19/2017 & rated 84 points: Not as good as I was hoping it would be after purchasing this at the winery four years ago. Kind of hot, somewhat heavy and unbalanced. A good hit of over ripe black cherry Nyquil, soft integrated tannins, low amount of acidity and a medium length finish. Maybe my palate has changed since this visit as this is no longer my style. (1418 views) | | Tasted by Moorsie on 4/24/2016 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Drank with beef tenderloin. Superb wine. Incredible nose, brilliant fruit. Delicious. (1505 views) | | Tasted by mpsocal on 12/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Big syrah with a ton of fruit. Great stuff. (1723 views) | | Tasted by The Wine Write on 11/11/2015 & rated 92 points: Simply a big, solid Syrah. (1395 views) | | Tasted by golfwine on 5/30/2015: Bummed...no, pissed! Drop off at restaurant the afternoon before our 8:30 reservation and when we showed up for dinner, it was sitting on the counter...near the stoves! I guess I shouldn't have expected more, as this restaurant has had a horrible wine program from Day 1. ...as such, I was neither able to enjoy it nor properly evaluate it. And to think I've been saving this bottle for no less than 3 years. (2023 views) | | Tasted by mrmedoes on 1/17/2015 & rated 93 points: Unabashedly Paso from the nose through full taste, this is a killer super fruity syrah that is coming into its own. Thought it was going to need air, but upon opening, realized that if you can take a massive fruit forward syrah that has balanced tannins, this comes out the corner punching and ready. Unlike something like a Saxum, where it really needs time, this can be popped and poured without remorse. Drank over two hours, and air does help, but seriously, this is so good that holding off isn't necessaily worth it. (1873 views) | | Tasted by Carsten Madsen on 1/1/2015 & rated 92 points: Black pebber, intens dark berrys, leather, liqurice, very nice. Store a few more years. (1468 views) | | Tasted by jeagle on 7/13/2014 & rated 94 points: Decanted four hours prior to consuming then saved a bit for day two. Beautiful expression of Paso fruit which I enjoyed slightly more on day one. Soft, even gentle, dark red and blue fruit sashay across the palate without any misstep. There is a deft hand behind this bottle: confidence clothed in silk and satin. (1799 views) | | Tasted by goofy Yno on 10/24/2013 & rated 93 points: big and bold, still tight, a touch of heat but good (2448 views) | | Tasted by 88rebel on 10/20/2013 & rated 94 points: Love this wine. Every vintage is wonderful (1779 views) | | Tasted by The Wine Write on 6/15/2013 & rated 92 points: Decanted an hour, recorked, then popped and ate with grilled steak. Paired well. Big, rich wine. Red and black fruit, creamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish. Very nice. (1823 views) | | Tasted by Gestalted on 5/17/2013 & rated 94 points: A fascinating Syrah to say the least! At first, closed and tart with a bit of Syrah funk. After about 1 hour, holy shit!!! This thing comes alive. Now, gobbs of blueberries and cream, coupled with notes of strawberry compote. A stunning and entertaining wine.
-- Consumed at at cellar temp: 60°-65° F. Friends don't let friends drink red wine at room temp! (1939 views) | | Tasted by J-Sho on 1/7/2013 & rated 92 points: Very dark. Nose of dark fruit, spice and crushed rock/mineral. Soft with integrated tannins. Still somewhat closed. | Syrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
