Tasted by rmcnees on 12/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Consistent with earlier tasting ... This was dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, forward expressive black berry fruits, smokey black creosote tones with hints of black licorice and touch of dark cocoa with moderate firm tannins.

Tasted by noahbw on 5/30/2012 & rated 90 points: Red-black in the glass. Gave 2 hours in decanter. Nose is black and inky with dark fruits, forest twigs and leaves, black licorice hints, soft funk, and minerals. The palate swirls with some sweet ripe black berry, and very subtle cocoa. It also has a slight tight tannin note that could still need time to blow off. Through the finish it loses it's rich velvety nature. Overall, it is a strong and interesting wine, which while missing a bit in elegance and harmony, is enjoyable. Worth revisiting on day two, just to see which way it develops, for better or worse.

Day 2: For better. Tannin edge trailed off some and the entire experience found more synergy and harmony. Still a bit more rough and edgy, but in all the right ways. For the remaining bottles, we'll open much earlier in the day. (5330 views)
Tasted by ggormezano on 5/12/2012 & rated 92 points: This wine is now ready to drink, still has at least 5 years of life, and is quite good. (5297 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 8/27/2009 & rated 90 points: This wine is finally starting to show it's stuff. Wish I hadn't drank my other bottles too soon. It's drinking very nice now. (6337 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 6/2/2007 & rated 90 points: 14.8% alcohol. decanted, and i recommend that you do, too, as this is a very powerful little cab for the money. it's tannic and young and delicious. boldly structured, it maintains good balance despite some initial oakiness and somewhat drying finish. i am strangely drawn to it's profile. sweet tobacco and black currant dominate for me. it's rather one dimensional and lacks complexity, yet it's simple straight forward presentation is pleasing. jeez, this may actually be a value california cabernet. nice.  Tasted by jhngo on 9/27/2005 & rated 88 points: Very Full bodied and drinks kind of hot. Needs some time to develop and lose some of the rough edges. It is a decent everyday wine. (5871 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 5/24/2005 & rated 87 points: An big brash cali cab. Fruit, and lot of tannins. (5236 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
