Tasted by BRY on 3/1/2015 & rated 87 points: Overwhelming fruit initially on opening, but after 30 minutes of air the fruit lightened up and it became a much more balanced wine. Ended up enjoying it more and more as it opened up. (3671 views)
Tasted by Bob and Joli on 10/22/2014 & rated 89 points: Predictable, and that's good. Very good color. Lots of berries. A bit earthy from the petit verdot. Good blend by the winemaker. Shop carefully and you'll find it under $20. Good value at that price. (3888 views)
Tasted by Chuckbodner on 10/9/2014 & rated 88 points: Good value wine - smooth relative to price - much better when opens up - would but a case for everyday use (3359 views)
Tasted by Barolo Raymond on 5/13/2014 & rated 89 points: Medium(+) ruby, slow moving tainted legs @14.5%abv. Medium (-) aromas fo black fruit, cedar. Dry, medium-medium(+) acidity, medium tannin, medium(+) body and high alcohol. Medium flavors of blueberries, blackberries, pepper notes and vanilla. Good length with elegant slightly sweet-alcohol finish. Intriguing depth and structure. Balanced, very drinkable, spke complexity. (3770 views)
Tasted by Micker on 1/24/2014 & rated 89 points: Tried at shop with Nash. Great blend. Nice cocoa finish from Paso. (5156 views)
Tasted by Sunocoblue on 12/1/2013 & rated 86 points: Better with this bottle compared to last one. (3185 views)
Tasted by Sunocoblue on 11/18/2013 & rated 84 points: Not sure if this was a bad bottle, but it was not good at all.. It did get a little better after being opened for a while. Not a good wine to me. (3210 views)
Tasted by lawgod on 10/7/2013 & rated 81 points: An even, steady wine, but nothing spectacular. Color was 5/10 - was a bit too dark and murky. Nose was a pit too sharp and not too fragrant. Some earthen notes on the nose and some pomegranate. 8/15. Palate was surprisingly deep and interesting. Licorice hints and a heavy plum tones. Some grassiness as well. 18/25. (2605 views)
Tasted by thirsty_cat on 7/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Nose: smokey, smoldering peat, fresh ripe black plum, black currants, cinnamon, nutmeg. Very attractive nose. Taste: dry, medium body. Quite spicy/fruity. Proper Xmas pudding: dried black currant, cinnamon, nurmeg, brown butter sauce, cloves, candied kumquat. And yet, not too rich: nice bloody/steak like salinity and iron offset the fruit. Very smooth and nicely balanced. Solid weight without being overwhelming. Perfect on its own or with fine blue cheese. Fabulous. (2378 views)
Tasted by Corgoson on 7/12/2013 & rated 92 points: Nose: insane smoke, wood cabin, black plum, dark fruit, mossy, cinnamon crunch cereal. toast. Taste: medium-full body, Christmas cake, medium body, Christmas spices, clove, Chinese salted gingu...rare steak. Very nicely structured and an easy drinking wine with great structure. Well made and would be complementary to snacks or by itself. Smooth. (3352 views)
Tasted by orlypann on 1/21/2013 & rated 89 points: Decanted for one hour. A little alcohol on the nose. Balanced on entry with berries and oak. Medium body with a lingering spice driven finish. Nice effort but could use more time lying down. Decent QPR. (3475 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
