Tasted by jws01 on 5/21/2022: Delicious (1052 views)
Tasted by Kayentacellars on 12/1/2021: I wont rate it, very disappointing. Held for 9 years in my cellar only to find it corked on opening. (1117 views)
Tasted by dafmd on 1/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Decant 60 min: dark ruby, notes of dark berry, smooth, medium bodied, bold blackberry with bramble, cedar, and pepper finish that lasts in mouth; (1563 views)
Tasted by Les Kangas on 7/16/2020 & rated 91 points: I agree with the person who said he decanted 7 hours before and I actually opened about four hours before drinking. I decanted after tasting, decanted again in two hours, decanted again before drinking. It leveled out somewhat towards the end of the meal. It tastes good now, but I suspect w I’ll be better in a few more years. Reidel cab glasses (1624 views)
Tasted by brinko99 on 5/22/2020 & rated 92 points: Beautiful showing... Ripe dark fruits, blackberry, dried blueberry, still showing strong. Framed by loam with a stoney granite edge. No noticable oak, alcohol (14.5%) in check, just enough acid to hold things together. No hurry, but fruit likely to fade over 3-5 years more. (1639 views)
Tasted by dafmd on 4/4/2020 & rated 93 points: opened 2 hours before, not decanted
dark ruby
full nose cedar/ecalyptus
medium bodied, smooth, blackberry
Modest finish

Lovely with tomato ricotta flatbread (1177 views)
Tasted by rgujral on 3/21/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 7 hours and drank over ~4 hours. Started at a 90 and ended at a 94. Should have decanted 12 hours. Great match with medium prime Rib-Eye. Fully integrated wine with fruit that seemed to come out more as it got more air. Really surprised at how well this wine has aged for what was effectively at the time an unknown "new kid on the block" wine. Wish I had more of this vintage. Decant this wine and give it time. Don't PnP. Don't see it getting any better. (1131 views)
Tasted by alpha_ori on 3/17/2020 & rated 92 points: Fairly consistent tasting notes from last time. Reliable and delicious. (842 views)
Tasted by J Piper L on 1/16/2020 & rated 94 points: Definitely drinking as a mature red. Complex with some fruit and that old wine structure. If you have one drink it soon. (819 views)
Tasted by TheRhoneranger on 12/30/2019 & rated 93 points: Opened with bright fruit nose, cherry and spice on the palate. Juicy goodness. (740 views)
Tasted by eags25fla on 2/10/2019 & rated 89 points: No notes (1391 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 9/23/2018 & rated 92 points: Decanted. 60% Cabernet, 30% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot. Light sediment in bottle.
Aromas show a mix of plum, blackberry, currant and fig that are also showcase scents of cigar box, graphite, chocolate truffle, new leather, bay leaf, earth and warm stone.
The palate shows velvety textures with fine tannins, juicy acid play, and moderate alcohol. Flavors come together to show a mix of berry cobbler, plum, fig, cassis, chocolate truffles, bay leaf, tobacco and leather with hints of earth and pencil. Easy and long through the finish.
Overall, just starting to peak and I think this still has many good years in front of it! (1602 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 5/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Handily exceeded my expectations, and I credit patience, in that these bottles seem to have benefited from the time spent slumbering in my cellar. Cassis and fig flavors dominate, rich but not over the top, and with a chewy texture that gave the wine enough substance to match the lush fruit. Smooth and delicious. (2024 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 4/21/2018 & rated 93 points: Decanted thru Menu aerating decanter for 45 minutes and returned to the bottle with the aerator to take to a dinner party. No detailed notes, but wow. Rave reviews. (1849 views)
Tasted by VAD on 12/23/2017 & rated 93 points: Excellent. (2098 views)
Tasted by dafmd on 12/17/2017 & rated 92 points: DnP: dark ruby, currant nose on decant, cedar, medium bodied, smooth, spices dark berries, spice on finish; drinking nicely (1606 views)
Tasted by Smiths22 on 11/24/2017 & rated 86 points: Past its peak (1608 views)
Tasted by Pipcelot on 11/21/2017 & rated 93 points: Delicious red cherry tobacco balanced meritage. Drinking beautifully right now and may still be improving. (998 views)
Tasted by sesalmon on 10/12/2017 & rated 93 points: A luscious wine that sings with flavors of dark fruit, smoke, and licorice. This wine continues to get better with age. I have four more bottles and need to cellar at least one of them for a few more years! (1244 views)
Tasted by brasstab on 9/24/2017 & rated 91 points: Still lovely after all these years. Seductive, dark fruit and an enticing firm spine. Blackberry curves and tobacco edges. Denner always delivers. A fine pairing for a Kansas City steak at Pasadena's Arroyo Chop House. (1342 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 8/19/2017 & rated 93 points: We stacked up two Bordeaux blends from two Paso Robles powerhouses against each other. Both were fantastic, each displaying a dark fruit richness. This wine was slightly smoother. (1449 views)
Tasted by JERB on 8/6/2017 & rated 93 points: Last one of this vintage for us! :-(
It is still a luscious wine! It does continue to get richer and better integrated, but I'm not sure how much better it might get. Suffice to say, it is drinking really well right now.

This 2010 Mother of Exiles has been our celebration wine! Bottle 1: our daughter's masters degree. Bottle 2: my dad's 90th BD. Bottle 3: our daughter's 26th BD. I guess we will have to find a new celebration wine now! (1532 views)
Tasted by marshalc on 7/14/2017 & rated 93 points: On the rise. Very nice. Paso Robles for sure. Would love to see this in a few years to see if it really blossoms. (1483 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 6/4/2017 & rated 95 points: This is crazy good. Rich nose and palate. So smooth and delicious with wonderful layers of integrated flavors. Rich black fruit, cedar, black pepper and old fashion black licorice. The finish is so very smooth and tasty. This wine will continue to get better with more cellaring, but it's so good now. (1565 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 5/28/2017 & rated 94 points: Decanted thru aerator twice and retuned to bottle for a party. Smooth, rich, earthy. Fabulous. (1298 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
