Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by lifebreath on 3/14/2024 & rated 93 points: Similar notes to previously. Dried apricot, ripe pineapple, sweet ripe green apple, and exotic spice like Chinese 5-spice blend. (204 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/27/2024: Potpourri of (Mostly) Old World Riesling (Los Gatos, California): Medium yellow. Lush entry, off dry. Exotic tropical and yellow orchard fruit, resoundingly acidic, stony finish. This is not fully integrated-maybe another 5 years? (574 views)
Tasted by lifebreath on 11/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Stellar! Dried apricot, spiced peach pie, pineapple and seductive oak. Beautiful color. (290 views)
Tasted by GEL Wines on 11/11/2023 & rated 91 points: In an in-between stage; more sweetness and less minerality than previous bottles (although still dry). Remains amazingly complex and exotic. Best pairing with aged, hard cheese. (317 views)
Tasted by rjpbath on 11/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Wow this is good..... Honeyed mangoes. Glorious, once one has got over the distinctly off dry edge. A luxurious bath in beautifully made riesling. (688 views)
Tasted by ElGreco on 8/18/2022 & rated 90 points: The nose was a promising concoction of overripe stone fruit, dried stone fruit, and petrol. On the palate these flavors came on quite strongly as well, but the mid was a bit lacking. The finish was also fleeting; showing hints of mineral character and honey. Acid was medium and the alcohol was showing through a bit more than I would have liked (compared to bottle drunk recently). Fantastic nose with a decent palate. Perhaps drink a bit more chilled than usual? (719 views)
Tasted by Achermann on 4/18/2022 & rated 90 points: Drinks nicely at the moment. (753 views)
Tasted by tobyc on 4/10/2022 & rated 89 points: Light golden, not overly intense. Quite acidic but w. good balance and harmonious fruit profile. (710 views)
Tasted by ElGreco on 12/21/2021 & rated 93 points: Beautiful aromatics. Petrol, honey, apricots, and smoke. On the palate there is an abundance of honey, apricot, general Riesling flavors, and tropical notes such as guava. It transitions into a very mineral dominant and smoky finish. Very long and complex. Loads of acid and life remain in this Rangen. A big boy at 14% alc, but you wouldn't even know it. (829 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 8/4/2021 & rated 91 points: From 75cl, perfect cork, opened but not decanted 30 minutes, did not improve in glass. Honeysuckle, jasmine and petrol on the nose, mutating to cumin and fenugreek on the entry/mid-palate: stellar aromatics not quite matched by the medium-bodied, unctuous-oily palate. Fine, exotic, remarkable, individual. This bottle was fully mature this evening. 91P (1043 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 7/17/2021 & rated 92 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2011 (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Bottle double decanted about 7h before the tasting. Bought at release, perfectly stored.
Clear, deep golden color. Nose with lots of ripe yellow fruit, not as precise as the Weinbach.
On the palate lots of ripe yellow fruit, some botrytis, lots of extract. A bit broad. Medium acidity. Very long. For me at its full peak. 91-92 (1359 views)
Tasted by becassine on 3/5/2021 & rated 91 points: I liitle bit thin
Very nice riesling
Drink in the 4 years max (1178 views)
Tasted by Renatod on 10/27/2019 & rated 93 points: y amazing Indian food (1475 views)
Tasted by Dough Boy on 5/22/2017 & rated 97 points: Terrific Riesling! Wonderful acidly, balance and purity. Notes of peaches and honeysuckle. Can be enjoyed by itself but we enjoyed with grilled mahi tortillas. (2696 views)
Tasted by PT insurgent on 2/25/2017: Good. Quite ripe, citrus, lemon, peach, sea shell, rocks. Honey, dried apricot. I think it is slightly lacking in acidity, lacking real nerve, and finishes feeling a bit fat and not refreshing. (2183 views)
Tasted by tzelmer on 12/22/2016 & rated 94 points: Wonderful nose of honey glazed peach and pear, lemon zest. Poised and balanced, a little bit of residual sugar, but just the slightest touch to balance out the ample acidity. This is wonderful. Can age for some time but I think this is an early drinker. (2199 views)
Tasted by Dough Boy on 8/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Bone dry, gripping acidity and dripping with glycerine right out of the bottle, the wine shows itself to have great potential to improve for many years. Left open over a few hours I'll bet it's hint of peach comes through. (2615 views)
Tasted by dpolivy on 7/10/2015 & rated 93 points: Vindredi (Barcode (Bellevue, WA)): Sweet, floral nose with white grape, peach, and some tropical fruit. Ripe melon and guava fill the dense body. Balanced acidity to match the density of the body. Lovely. (2716 views)
Tasted by asheio on 6/20/2014 & rated 92 points: Alsace Riesling tasting (At Halvor's): Light yellow. Intense, big nose with honey, yet a bit reserved. Fullbodied, spicy and rich. Like velvet. Long finish. Very young. (2268 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 5/13/2014 & rated 94 points: A bit shy on the nose, hints of ripe fruit, big, powerful on the palate, great intensity. Very persistent and long. 93-94+ (1923 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 10/12/2013 & rated 94 points: Harry Hadzidakis Presents Zind-Humbrecht (La Cucina Povera Reastaurant, Athens, Greece.): Candied lime, stony minerality and scents of pineapple on the tight nose. Medium to full-bodied, mouth-coating and noticeably sweater than the previous rieslings (residual sugar is 6.4 g/l here, vs. 4.3 for the Clos Windsbuhl and 3.6 for the Brand), ultra-concentrated fruit, high acidity and an endless aftertaste. Still a baby. (2345 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/12/2013 & rated 95 points: Zind Humbrecht Tasting (Cucina Povera): Clear lemon color.
Clean nose, medium intensity but great complexity, underlying sweetness, round, ripe fruits, tight and youthfull
Off dry, medium+/full body, medium+ intensity, medium+ alcohol, high acidity, excellent balance, candied fruit, peach, lime and apricot, complex, oily texture, smokey notes, long aftertaste,
Outstanding quality, a bit young for now, a long time ahead of it. (2403 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
