| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by VeniceCalif on 10/8/2017 & rated 93 points: It keeps getting better. Decanted 1 hr. ahead off of a bit of sediment. Very nice nose of green herbs, plums, a hint of mint, earthy notes, cedar. Medium-bodied and lithe on the palate, smoothed-out from bottle age but still with round red fruit. This is California after all. Finishes well with light tannins. One of the great successes of my cellar. (976 views) | | Tasted by VeniceCalif on 4/11/2017 & rated 93 points: A total sleeper. Decanted 1 hr. ahead off of a bit of sediment. Very deep garnet with the barest hint of brick. Very nice nose of blackberries and herbs. Rich, long, and full on the palate, with excellent structure over red fruits and spices. Long finish, drying with still lively tannins and red cherry notes. I'm glad I still have some more of this because it still has a ways to go. (1063 views) | | Tasted by ebert on 9/12/2015 & rated 83 points: Astringent with flavors that faught (1241 views) | | Tasted by Bobedmonds79 on 9/16/2014 & rated 85 points: Reasonable for a weekday wine, a bit of too much after bite (1871 views) | | Tasted by VeniceCalif on 8/14/2013 & rated 93 points: Decanted 45 mins. ahead. Nice black cherry color with purple tones. Interesting spicy nose, with black pepper, white pepper, and cherry notes. Lively and elegant on the palate, full of supple and seductive fruit, balanced by tobacco and cedar flavors. Acid balance is juicy and rich. Finishes well with another blast of dark cherry fruit and moderately full tannins. Technically speaking, this is one very nice bottle of juice. The Cab/Syrah blend is still rare in CA (l'Aventure among a few others) but this wine (and that one) show its potential. It drinks a bit like a Petite Sirah right now, with attractive fruit and lively tannins, but it could also take some years in the bottle. I wish I had more. (1750 views) |
| Andis Wines Producer website
Andis Wines was conceived in 2008 as a collaboration between Andy Friedlander and Janis Akuna, prominent Hawaii entrepreneurs, and veteran Amador County winemaker Mark McKenna. Inspired by the enormous potential of the highly diverse and spectacular vineyards of the Sierra Foothills, Andis began crafting supple, deeply fruited and concentrated wines with the 2008 vintage.
The Estate, acquired in 2009, provided a perfect setting for building a modern boutique winery with stunning views, exquisite architecture, and a state-of-the-art winemaking cellar. Located atop a gentle slope at 1,500 feet above sea level, the 25 acre vineyard was planted in 1978 to Zinfandel. In addition to the Estate, Andis sources grapes from 23 other vineyards scattered throughout Amador, El Dorado and Clarksburg. Our wine list includes both common and not-so-common varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Barbera, Grenache, Mourvedre, Primitivo, Petite Sirah and of course Zinfandel. All our fruit is hand sorted and fermented in small lots to promote complexity, diversity of style and varietal correctness. Using both traditional and innovative winemaking approaches, Andis Wines have quickly garnered 90+ point scores in Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, glowing reviews in print and online media, and placements in some of the finest restaurants in Northern California and Hawaii.Red Blend.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sierra FoothillsAmador |
