Tasted by HowardNZ on 1/4/2015: Chambolles and others at Mike and Cathy's: Served blind by Barbara, on bouquet alone, this wine was a change of speed. A Cabernet nose of cedar, cigar box, liquorice, crème de cassis and dark cherries. A lovely wine, with good shape, on palate. Quite modern in style, very well balanced and elegant. Again, no suggestion of 2003 overripeness or lack of acidity. Quite a sleek wine with well integrated, smooth tannins. Good power, structure and length. Something in the flavour profile seemed to mark the wine out as not Bordeaux, even in a modern style. An excellent wine. Drinking well now but years ahead of it. (2398 views)
Tasted by LFCHALA on 11/13/2014 & rated 95 points: Classy. Shows some signs of heat, but is excellent with all balanced components. (2899 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 10/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Nose wasn't as opulent as some of the other young Tuscans, but this one was showing some nice liqourice. Sweet fruit and dusty tannin on the palate. This is nice but needs a lot of time. (3468 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 10/11/2014 & rated 92 points: Tenuta San Guido, Sassicaia vertical 1998 - 2010: Medium ruby. Noticeably ripe nose of plum, cedar and leather. On the palate medium bodied with lots of fruit but no heat of the vintage, soft tannins, not drying. This lacks a bit of structure and aromatic depth but is very well done for this challenging vintage. Drink now. (3448 views)
Tasted by MPAN on 10/6/2014 & rated 91 points: Medium to dark red; lovely full nose of red berries; nice full smooth attack, soft but pronounced tannins, lacking some definition and structure, quite dry finish; nice, but lacking that extra edge (3419 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 9/27/2014 & rated 95 points: Decant 3hrs, huge flowery nose, wild dark berries, menthol, black cherry and cinnamon/clove. Been in my 53 degree cellar for nearly 7 years, according to CT. Fully integrated tannins, rich, yet balanced, with currants, cassis, dark wild berries, suggesting and delivering plenty of spice. This bottle is complex and better put, absolutely delicious. WOW! (2004 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/25/2014 & rated 91 points: Spice and warmth, ripe fruit, clean as a whistle, pure Cabernet, low acidity, big but ripe tannins, cedar, savoury, not a lot of stuffing or tension but not too light either, very good length. At restaurant De Lage Vuursche, NL. (1752 views)
Tasted by Boislavie on 8/30/2014: Excellent after 3 hours in the carafe I prefer masseto and ornellaia. Similar to tignanello and would be curious to drink them together to compare (1444 views)
Tasted by gr8nrg on 4/25/2014 & rated 93 points: From my cellar which is dark, relative humidity 58% and temps range from 10 degrees celsius in winter to 18 in summer, this wine is entering the window of worthiness. It certainly could sit longer but with a few hours decanting and the right meal this is a treat. The nose is beautiful and after 4 hours is worth just smelling! Now that said, the tanins were still present and acid present so had that thinner Tuscan finish that a typical bordeaux blend might not. I personally like the freshness but I certainly agree and understand with some that it gets a little 'watery' on the end. The nose after 3 hours was awesome. Blackberry, Cigar, Cedar. I would not say this is the most balance vintage but I got a good sense of the Italian soil/ terroir and the tuscan expression of merlot. So indicative of the region, a balanced classic and you can count on it transporting you straight to the old world. Lovely, but expensive, but that is expected. (3325 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 3/28/2014 & rated 94 points: Bring your best you paid under $100- double blind (Norcross, GA): Deep dense cloudy core with bricking; leather, nut, red currant, deep, rich, coffee; soft texture, fat and rich, noticeable tannin, leather, green pepper, roasted and ripe fruit; the density made this wine special; called Super Tuscan. (3015 views)
Tasted by NNV on 2/13/2014 & rated 93 points: 92-93. Like it not love it! The nose is incredible and perfumed. Mid palate quite strong and deep but the finish was a bit watery and lacking, especially as the night wore on. Decanted. Pretty wine, but I didn;t find it to be a powerhouse. Something was missing, probably the finish, esp when you get that gorgeous nose. Perhaps not the best vintage. Steep price tag for the wine, but fun to drink a Sassicaia ;-) (3557 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 12/6/2013 & rated 93 points: Drank at Davy's
What great stuff, nearly as good as the '04. Classic Sass. (4266 views)
Tasted by SJA61 on 11/25/2013 & rated 95 points: Spectacular. Consumed at a tasting along with Chiantis and otehr Super Tuscans. WOTN. So well balanced. A beautiful wine. Tannins fully resolved. While this still has plenty of life, I am not sure I would hold out for more time. I know that I could not resist if I had another. (4170 views)
Tasted by spineguy on 11/10/2013 & rated 93 points: Beginning to come into its prime. Rich nose. Somewhere between red and black fruit. Nice complexity and finish. Drank over 4 hours with no decant and steadily improved. Consider decanting for quicker consumption. (3222 views)
 Tasted by Genghis88 on 10/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Monaco Gang @ chez Carmichel's

Deep. dark purple
Wet wool, moss off the nose
Well balanced, with nice tannins, black cherry, tobacco

Definitely better than the 2002 (3408 views)
Tasted by Strikermax on 10/11/2013 & rated 92 points: Volle, rijke geur, zwoel, munt, ceder, tabak. Zwoele aanzet gevolgd door stevige zuren. In de afdronk wat hitte en de tannines zijn wat aan de harde kant. Lang aanhoudend. (3000 views)
Tasted by sandda on 10/5/2013 & rated 93 points: excellent, but needs 2 hour decant (2448 views)
Tasted by mchanin4 on 9/19/2013 & rated 94 points: - Ruby color and aromas of cherry and has flavours of cherry with a medium/full body with a long finish - Brought to a special dinner with friends at an excellent Italian BYO in NJ. This wine was a perfect accompaniment. Big, but not overwhelming with lots of fruit. Long lasting on the palate. (2602 views)
Tasted by asheio on 6/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Surprisingly young and fresh given the vintage. Lots of meat and blood on the nose, made me think of CdP. Exellent now, but will continue to improve for many years. (3348 views)
Tasted by clarktoews on 6/24/2013 & rated 93 points: just awesome wines. both bottles were great, corks were fine, eventhough the ullage level was a concern. nice dark colour, wonderful nose of fruit, leather and a hint of game. everything works here and is one of my fave Italian wines (3147 views)
Tasted by esh44 on 5/4/2013 & rated 90 points: Black berries, currants, and somehow subtle strawberry mixed in with a good dose of oak. A decent amount of heat on the palate and finish. Well made wine but nothing memorable. (3461 views)
Tasted by dron_ap on 4/21/2013 & rated 93 points: Had 3 bottles, all three different. Opened 2 hours before drinking, no decanting. Wine is still very young and a bit closed. Medium ruby colour, lighter than expected. Complex non tuscan claret nose. Very long finish. Still needs time but if you want it is still approachable now. (3530 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 2/24/2013 & rated 93 points: amazing great wine but still way too young to fully enjoy.
Powerful a7 young, red berries, spicy notes, oak-vanilla, wet-earth & licorice, leather and mocha.
Very high potential! (3779 views)
Tasted by slbelln on 2/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Have patience, this wine needs time. (3566 views)
Tasted by DonalOB on 2/3/2013 & rated 93 points: Italian and Spanish tasting (Watson's, Hong Kong): Big blackcurrant nose, even some mint. Smooth, round and balanced - the usual. (3836 views)

(Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia Sassicaia) Medium dark red color; redolent, ripe and dried cherry, black cherry and sweeet earth nose; ripe, delicious, black cherry, plum palate with complexity and integrated oak; long finish 95+ pts.  95 points

(Sassicaia) Again a deeply coloured and intense looking wine here. The nose is very open and forward, showing a very brawny style of fruit, a touch feral and savage, with a little toffee left over from the oak. Even Sassicaia shows the heat of the 2003 vintage, it seems. Nevertheless it has a lovely creaminess, almost silkiness on entry, then it shows a broader, more meaty and brawny character through the midpalate, which is marked by a huge wall of tannins. It has lots of good flavour and potential, with notes of ripe raspberry, cherry and white chocolate, but surprisingly it also has some good acidity and although rich it does maintain a sense of balance. Nevertheless I worry about those tannins outlasting everything else as the wines of this vintage age. For that reason a conservative score.  16-16.5+ points

Red Bordeaux Blend

Read about the grapes used to produce Bordeaux The variety Red Bordeaux Blend in CellarTracker implies any blend using any or all of the five traditional Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. As such, this is used worldwide, whether for wines from Bordeaux, Meritages from California and Canada, some Super-Tuscan wines etc.

Sassicaia

In 1994, Sassicaia was granted a unique distinction of having the only DOC dedicated to a single wine (Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC). So there are two distinct, non-overlapping definitions for Sassicaia in CellarTracker:

* 1994 and younger use the Bolgheri Sassicia DOC.
* 1993 and older are labeled simply as table wines, Vino da Tavola.
