Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 4/8/2015 & rated 91 points: A private dinner (Restaurant The French Laundry ***, Yountville, California, USA): Crisp and waxy, lemon and lime, mineral and deep, elegant and fresh, attractive bitters, tight and long. (535 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 4/2/2015 & rated 91 points: Wines At Our Table; Week of April 5th, 2015; 3/30/2015-4/5/2015: Very pale slightly green tinged straw color with appealing petrol, stone fruit, lime, wet stone, and a hint of lychee aromas. On the palate it approaches medium-bodied and is dry, clean, focused, and well-structured with peach, lime, passion fruit and mineral flavors. Long persistent finish. 12.5% alcohol. 798 cases produced. Made from 40 year old vines. SRP - $27 (474 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 12/17/2014 & rated 88 points: Lime juice filled nose. Fresh and steely with classical lime and chalk flavours. It gains weight on the palate, finished quite dense and bold with a lovely peppery spice at the back of the palate. Nice. (720 views)
Tasted by ljl203 on 10/16/2014: Intense young lime, smoke, chalk. Dry and long finish. (865 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 9/8/2014: A little bit drier than I expect to be? Usually a kiss of sweetness but this seems all the way dry. Although that could be the other Riesling that was just poured. (1105 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 7/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Opened and decanted 5+ hours in the fridge and paired with seared lemon pepper ahi, garlic vegetables, and quinoa. Pale straw color. Nose brings pears, lemons, tangerines, and a wide variety of mixed floral notes. The palate is crisp and compact, bringing a zesty wave of sour apples, tart lime, kiwi, grapefruit, and lemon zest. The finish elongates as it gets warmer and brings waves of stone minerals and metallic citrus. Overall, much more on the "dry" side than the "off-dry" side of the spectrum for this producer, but good now and good to age. Drink 2015-2030. (1015 views)
Tasted by Levinsb on 6/7/2014 & rated 91 points: Clean pure mineral finish. Very pretty aromas. Nicely balanced. Possibly age-worthy with all that nice acidity. (1104 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 4/2/2014: Icy aromas. Peach and apricot fruit, but not in a blowsy fashion. Apricot crystals. White flower and baby powder aromas. Gains more and more flower during the first 30 minutes open.
Subtle foods pair best, sautéed broccoli with garlic. Didn't like the hot sauce on the spinach tacos nearly as much. (999 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/29/2014 & rated 92 points: I really enjoyed this wine. Opens with a subtle melon note which transitions to apple blossom and stone. Flavors of peach and apple blossoms, lemon and wet stone. Plenty of acidity keeps things lively. (913 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 3/29/2014 & rated 87 points: Opened by SmartlySauced. Clear white color. Notes of green apple and lime with a tart finish. An upfront wine which did not seem to have enough on the finish to score higher. 87 points. (808 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 3/29/2014 & rated 88 points: Opened by Smartlysauced at Sun Wah. I wasn't expecting much from this when I saw Napa Riesling, but was pleasantly surprised. Notes of green apple and stone fruit. (827 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 2/15/2014 & rated 91 points: Taste of Smith Madrone 2014: Very pale slightly green tinged straw color with appealing stone fruit, apple lime, wet stone, and a hint of lychee aromas. On the palate it approaches medium-bodied and is dry, clean, focused, and well-structured with tart apple, peach, lime, and mineral flavors. Long persistent finish. 12.5% alcohol. 798 cases produced. Made from 40 year old vines. SRP - $27 (757 views)
Tasted by Richard Jennings on 12/23/2013 & rated 90 points: Light medium yellow color; green guava, lime cream, lime sherbet nose; tart citrus, lime, mineral, lime sherbet palate; medium-plus finish (12.5% alcohol) (739 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 12/14/2013 & rated 90 points: A very light yellow color. Aromas of grapefruit, white flowers, some apricot and a distinct crushed limestone note. The acid tingles the palate as the apricot, creamy peach and green melon roll in. There’s an awesome lime juice and rock quarry aspect that reminds me of the Mosel, which I’m not sure I’ve ever said about a Napa Riesling. Very crisp and lively, this likely has some fun evolution ahead of it. (793 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/16/2013: Very nice and sophisticated Riesling. Right away you get the minerality, some slate, a bit of lime, maybe some light floral (like lily) notes. It's got a crisp acidity which holds everything together (maybe a touch too tightly, but it is young). Will sit on the rest of our bottles for a bit, but this is definitely a good wine. (759 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 11/5/2013: Expressive fruit nose. Ripe lime, flowery pear. Almost passion fruit aromas. The nose here isn't as salty as the Muscadet I just had (12 Fruitiere), but the quality resides here too. Freshly fallen snow.
Palate is showing a lot of extract up front. It hugs the tongue. Lots of mineral notes. It has a bounce to it, a verve.
Day 3. White flowers. It has a much more mineral aroma today than the fruit it flashed on day 1. Still a salty crunch. (743 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 8/15/2013: Dry style. Nose shows some oily texture. Palette shows nice fruit without being sweet/cheeky. Apples, a little tart pear, nice acidity. Surprising style from CA Riesling, balanced, well made. (815 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
