Tasted by Jon8080 on 12/1/2023 & rated 90 points: Mellowing nicely. Good nose. I think these are ready to go, probably just over the peak age. (225 views)
Tasted by mjgkng on 7/6/2022 & rated 90 points: Blackberry and cassis. Nice finish. Still had it! (1285 views)
Tasted by redmancge on 12/31/2021 & rated 89 points: From a magnum opened to decant a few hours ahead of Christmas dinner. Nice dark fruits deep garnet with fully mature notes. Tannins resolved and was hitting stride by end of bottle. Should have a little time left but would drink up now to still enjoy. If a 750ml bottle might be outside the window as others mentioned. (1462 views)
Tasted by JonBWines on 3/4/2021 & rated 88 points: Mature, thin, low tannin, rain. (1965 views)
Tasted by Saferiat on 7/28/2019 & rated 77 points: Well beyond prime time to drink in 2019 (3225 views)
Tasted by timbobwhite on 4/28/2018 & rated 90 points: 2 Hour decant, very little sediment. A bit lighter than the bigger years for Mondavi, but on track for house character and style, lacked a bit of intensity. Glad I bought the two bottles. (3681 views)
Tasted by youvebeenhearnedLLC on 12/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Good wine in a tough year. Green pepper on the nose. Soft tannins. Moderate fruit. Just a bit of a bite on the finish, but pleasantly so. Good wine and I think bottle time has improved as reflected by recent ratings. (2969 views)
Tasted by timbobwhite on 12/1/2017 & rated 89 points: 75% Cab Sauv., 8% Cab Franc, 5% Merlot, 3% Petite Verdot, 35% To Kalon, 13% Wappo Hill. Decanted one hour, drank over 1-1/2. No sediment. Mahogany red to edge. Plum, vegetal, green pepper nose. Balanced, little tannin, muted fruit (for Mondavi). Short finish. Improved with more air and especially with food. Short of the best Mondavi, but interesting to see that they made a good wine in a poor year. Give this some time and air and should continue to get better. (2811 views)
Tasted by Seville Wines on 10/25/2016: Easy to drink. Deep red color. Smooth. (3156 views)
Tasted by mitiman2003 on 11/22/2015 & rated 89 points: Dense, deep purple-red color w/ good clarity. Aromas of dark berries and spice. Black currant and plum,on the palate. Well structured w/ controlled tannins, balanced with moderate alcohol. Medium length finish, w/ pleasant fruitiness. Good value at this price level. (3045 views)
Tasted by bryon m on 9/8/2015 & rated 89 points: We followed the horizontal tasting with the 2011 Mondavi Napa Cab which I consider to be my everyday wine. It did not disappoint, good up front fruit to finish. Color and clarity was perfect. (397 views)
Tasted by Shaun Mondavi on 6/6/2015 & rated 88 points: For the ~$20-25 range this is pretty good. Smooth, dried red fruit, some blackberry. You know its mass produced but it doesn't feel like they are trying to trick you by making it over the top. (2971 views)
Tasted by ccromley5 on 6/5/2015: We didn't like this one. (2732 views)
Tasted by Mootsie on 5/12/2015 & rated 88 points: Not bad. All the right elements are there: bell pepper, spicy dark cherry, tobacco/leather, some oak and decent tannins. Not overly intense or complex, but you're not going to get that at this price point. It does deepen a bit with air/decanting. The wine does not seem to be manipulated or made to be sweet. So for a relatively cheap Napa Cab, this one is pretty pure. (2903 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 4/22/2015 & rated 88 points: Garnet color with promising cassis, tobacco, cherry and dried herb aromas. On the palate, it's energetic, and juicy with a pleasing texture, velvety tannins and easy going cassis, black cherry, and black and red currant flavors. Medium finish. Nice value @ $28 (2482 views)
Tasted by Cyberpana on 4/10/2015 & rated 89 points: Wild berries, tobacco and wood. Light medium body, dark ruby (1800 views)
Tasted by blackace on 4/4/2015 & rated 86 points: not impressed (1297 views)
Tasted by captainhellzy on 3/10/2015 & rated 84 points: I generally like the Mondavi Napa just not this Vintage. With better wines at this same price point it is just not worth buying again. Very thin, lacking finish. I got some enjoyment out of the wine but the Clos du Val 2011 is significantly better, so is the rodney strong 2012, so is the 2010 St Francis. (1494 views)
Tasted by yofog on 1/14/2015: Very round on the palate with a simple cassis note and some oak creaminess. Very simple, but good amplitude and polish. Technically pretty damn impressive...everything is in the right place. But it's not for wine-drinkers, it's a steakhouse glass pour. (1815 views)
Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 12/20/2014 & rated 89 points: Though probably not for everyone's taste, I like this wine a lot. There is a certain brooding earth quality with cassis and tobacco in this, like most Mondavi Cabernet's. It is not necessarily generous and fruit forward, but when you swish it around in the mouth rewards you with spicy blueberry and blackberry flavors. It is a little vegetal, in a good way. Maybe not as full and rich as previous vintages. The balance and integration is pretty commendable. We are only being charged $19 for a true Napa Valley Cabernet that can probably age for 10 more years. By the finish we can taste and feel some serious French oak with young tannins and blueberry fruit. (1600 views)
Tasted by Magnum Bill on 10/2/2014 & rated 86 points: From a well known winery with many grades of wine...some superior, others not.....this was just a fair delivery. I normally like reds such as this, not too shy nor too overt. However it's a little hot and too thin to merit a higher score. (2314 views)
Tasted by the berkshire on 9/14/2014: $25.00 (2291 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 8/16/2014 & rated 89 points: We are not big cab drinkers but this wine was good; medium bodied, good fruit and nice finish; would drink again;Drank with a steak; wine is ready to drink; Not sure why folks don't like it maybe bottle consistency again? (2392 views)
Tasted by PT insurgent on 8/13/2014: WSET Diploma Semester 1 Block A; 8/11/2014-8/15/2014: No formal notes. (2526 views)
Tasted by scotty_b on 7/16/2014 & rated 84 points: Nice nose of blue and black fruit and creamy vanilla. Palate was thin on fruit and had a strange sharp iron quality. This might smooth out over time. Not a great vintage. (2382 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
