Tasted by asgerG on 11/12/2016 & rated 91 points: D1h. Deep red, red rim, 5.5. Generous complex bouquet, sweetish mature elements mixed with the classic Italian cask stuff. Well balanced and harmonious palate, resolved tannins, long almost elegant finish. Drink now-2018. What a pleasant surprise. At last I had a mature well composed Montepulciano wine. (4881 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 5/29/2015 & rated 89 points: shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. this wine doesn't give up. still has good color. lots of cherry fruit. medium body. firm structure. we have to visit the winery when we return to abruzzi. (5946 views)
Tasted by TedescoCellars on 12/27/2014 & rated 80 points: Ok for the price. Lots of raspberry, almost sweet. On its last legs, wouldn't hold these long. (6513 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 11/8/2014 & rated 91 points: Tart cherry, raspberry aromas mixed with smoke and other woody notes, the palette is all silky Bing cherry, black cherry, with subtle cranberry and raspberry sneaking in as well in the mid-palette. Faint spice and wood notes fold into the creamy fruit filled finish of medium length. Quite tasty overall, at it's peak, drink before 2016 for best maturity. Purchased at Costco in 2011, cellared in temp controlled cellar. (6685 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 7/22/2014 & rated 90 points: A couple years in the bottle really helped. The nose was a bit funky, but the wine still has plenty of life left with cherry and red berry fruit backed by refreshing acidity with leather and tobacco notes folding into the silky finish where pepper spice emerges along with more cherry and berry fruit. The tannins have integrated nicely as well, overall, no complaints for a 10 dollar Costco wine, great QPR. I held onto a couple of bottles on a whim a couple years ago, I will drink my other bottle in 2016 hoping for a bit more improvement as I am not confident the wine has peaked yet. (7024 views)
Tasted by RKBergman on 9/15/2013 & rated 87 points: This wine is one we keep in our cellar all the time and it referenced as the "Stick Wine". Year over year it is very consistent and good. It has nice dark ruby color, Nose of fruits, berries, slight earthiness, hints of leather and chocolate, with a medium bodied and smooth tannin finish. Great everyday drinker that is nicely priced. (4821 views)
Tasted by Cyleb on 7/30/2013: For a $13 bottle this is a 90s wine. (4814 views)

Tasted by moega on 5/10/2012 & rated 86 points: Definitely got the fruit on this one. A bit different than some of the other Montepulciano bottles I've had lately. A little bit more thin and fruity as mentioned. Solid, not spectacular. (3534 views)

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

From Wikipedia:
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a type of wine grape as well as a type of red wine made from these same grapes in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy. The grape is however recommended for 20 of Italy's 95 provinces. Up to 10% Sangiovese is permitted to be added to the blend. It is typically a fruity, dry wine with soft tannins, and as such is often consumed young. If aged by the winery for more than two years, the wine may be labelled "Riserva."

This wine should not be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made from Sangiovese and other grapes, but not the Montepulciano variety.

The quality of Montepulciano wines produced in Abruzzo (especially in the provinces of Pescara and Chieti) has been constantly improving in the last ten years, making Abruzzi, once a backwater in winemaking, one of the most interesting locales in the Italian scene.

It is blended with the grape Ciliegolo to make the wine Torgiano. It is also used as the primary grape in Rosso Conero DOCG and is a major part of the Rosso Piceno DOC blend.

Over the past few years the Montepulciano variety has been successfully introduced into Australia.
