Tasted by rjquillin on 2/2/2013: From the LB closeout @ $9, this has held up pretty well. Not a big bottle, but a ten year old fairly simple CS showing some age and drinking well and seems to have time left. 13.8 ABV and more in a classic style. (2178 views)
Tasted by mibuwolf83 on 2/1/2013 & rated 89 points: Honestly, I had very low expectations from this wine, but at $9/bottle purchased from Last Bottle, I figured I could take a gamble. To me, this wine was a pleasant surprise! I did encounter some sediments when I was pouring a glass (not surprised by that, though). On the glass, the wine is showing its age with some bricking on the rim, but maintains a garnet color to show it's still not over the hill yet. Tamed on the nose (even after an hour decant), sweet cherries, red fruits and cedar. On the palate you get more of the juicy red fruit, cedar and hints of leather with enough tannins to keep it structured on the medium-long finish. Overall, what I took away from this wine is the importance of balance. Fruit, acidity, tannins, and oak - they all have a role to play. (1375 views)

Tasted by Stealthwine on 3/14/2008 & rated 83 points: Nice --- not great. Medium color, light fruit. light and simple finish. Pretty well balanced as well. It would be better if it had a little more personality. Very light oak and as stated it's fine just not memorable (1998 views)
Tasted by Dwills on 12/29/2006 & rated 84 points: Medium to full body. A hint of spice on the finish. I would purchase again. (1374 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 8/15/2006 & rated 90 points: had a taste at bacchus wine made simple "best bang for your buck" event. full bodied, good structure, plenty of chunky cabernet fruit flavor with plum predominating. well made wine, will look for this. (1617 views)
Tasted by Bin242 on 8/7/2006 & rated 85 points: Somewhat reticent nose of currant, spice, red cherry and cranberry with notes of toasty oak. Medium bodied and juicy with more of the same translation from the nose. Cleansing acidity and soft tannins lead to a decent finish. Nice for a daily pop and pour. 84-86. (1598 views)
Tasted by vinoveritas on 2/20/2006 & rated 88 points: A great cab for the right price. Although not as good as the reserve, still has a good fruit backbone with anise and tobacco on the finish (1770 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
