Tasted by coopdeville on 12/27/2010: Cooper family Christmas.. (2629 views)
Tasted by windypinot on 11/27/2009 & rated 90 points: Consistent with my last notes; excellent full-bodied offering (2625 views)
Tasted by stufis on 11/16/2009 & rated 91 points: Mellowing the edges nicely, but good for another several years. (2721 views)
Tasted by Stefanor on 8/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Very good effort typical of Novy Syrahs. A bit hot on the alcohol but well balanced with lots of forward fruit, ripe berries, pepper and some pleasant smoke. Would like to try again in a year or two and would expect more rounded tannins and softer fruit. (2758 views)
Tasted by windypinot on 7/30/2009 & rated 90 points: Deep red color; dash of pepper with dark fruits on the nose; full body with great structure; a little hot, but not unbearably so; fine effort and still has some aging potential (2746 views)
Tasted by RWilkinson on 6/30/2008: This is in a good place, drink up! (1845 views)
Tasted by RussW on 2/20/2008: This bottle was a different animal from the one opened last October. The wine has shutdown and it took 24 hours to open up and shine. (1979 views)
Tasted by RussW on 10/13/2007: WOW...this is now my QPR wine of '07!!! I decanted and started in after about 30 minutes. The nose is full of violets, smoke, blackberry, white pepper. The palate is a mouthfull of violets and delicious blackberry fruit with a touch of bittersweet chocolate that leads to a long, rich, but not ponderous, finish where nice supporting acidity shows up and gives the fruit a refreshing lift with white pepper notes adding some spiciness to the mix. This held up beautifully on the 2nd night after being in the decanter for 3 hours and stored in an air tight carafe in the fridge. I see that others have noted alcohol showing on this wine but the only thing I noticed was a very slight warmth present upon swallowing but for me it was not a factor. I am very glad I still have 2 bottles but only wish I had a couple more. One of the best Novy's I have had and one of the best appellation syrahs I have ever had. I'll be pounding my remaining bottles this winter as I see very little if any upside in further aging this wine. Very nice job Adam. (2040 views)
Tasted by drend on 10/4/2007 flawed bottle: Corked (2138 views)
Tasted by LPskeleton on 6/1/2007 & rated 85 points: On the nose, smoke, oak and craisin, on the palate a little flabby and not much action. (2206 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 5/10/2007: Hadn't tasted this wine since our Novy Offline last year when it had been newly released. Was looking for something last night with some push and spicyness so grabbed this bottle. The TN below takes two forms, one from last night's run @ the bottle and then tonight, which was drank @ room temp, having sat in the 'Scraper overnight.

Pop and pour + 30 mins: Flavors of olive and earthy red/black fruits, along with tar and a grapey feel. Poured alongside a vegetable pasta with a tomatoe red sauce. The wine did not pair well with this selection, as it seemed to accentuate the acidity in the pasta sauce. I enjoyed another taste after dinner and the wine showed better on its own, with more bittersweet chocolate and char.

At 24 hours: Tonight, had with vegetable pizza from Fratello's. Indeed, and to validate what a few others have said in CT, there is some heat on this wine, both on the nose and palate. Not to the point of being a turn off for me, as I can usually take some heat, but it's there. Palate is still grapey, with blackberry, pepper, char/tar and espesso, along with the dark olive note that finishes the wine, along with the bittersweet chocolate and hint of vanilla bean. There are some grainy tannins, as well, which suggest some further ageing will benefit. You'll also find some moderate acidity.

Overall, I like the bottle. Given the vintage, no surprise there is some heat--one should expect that. Would be nice to try this against the 2004 Page-Nord, which is the selected up lot of this wine. (2272 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 4/26/2007 & rated 88 points: Tasty fruit but a bit simple. Tannins have softened but a bit of heat on the finish. (2241 views)
Tasted by JonnyB on 3/15/2007 & rated 90 points: rich nose, deep dark spicy fruit.....nice long finish, not overly tannic, does seem smoother and more balanced than last summer. Great stuff, wish I had bought more. (2329 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 2/10/2007 & rated 86 points: Faint black fruit nose wrapped in caramel; big, sweet black fruit palate, a little hot, with oak showing mid-palate; grainy short-medium finish (1180 views)
Tasted by E on 12/24/2006 & rated 91 points: improving, evolved nicely over several hours without decanting. Softer , less harshness, more integrated tannins compared with 5 months ago. (2572 views)
Tasted by HurrahSyrah on 12/1/2006 & rated 88 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. This wine weighs in at 14.9% alcohol with a dark purple color in the glass. Out of the glass aromas of ripe dark fruit jumped forth quickly followed by a menthol quality with a hint of licorice. On the palate, this was another big syrah but not in a good way. Seemed a little bit awkward in terms of the balance of the alcohol and fruit. Flavors of blueberries, raspberries, and plum with a smooth midpalate but then that awkward alcoholic finish comes forth. Would have liked to have returned to this with more aeration. If things settle down a bit: 90. But at this moment... HS88 (2526 views)
Tasted by budman on 11/22/2006 & rated 91 points: Best bottle yet. Ripe dark fruit, smooth mouthfeel, and long finish. Wish I had a few more of these. (2596 views)
Tasted by gdbarton1@gmail.com on 10/6/2006 & rated 89 points: Very Dark Purple, Muted blueberry with some steminess on the nose
Cooked blueberries and cream, very dry, medium length,
Ready noew, a fun wine (2641 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/4/2006 & rated 89 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Nice dark fruits including blackberry and plum with chocolate and moderately tannic finish. Will benefit from more time in the cellar.
Better balanced the 2nd day! (2651 views)
Tasted by DFC on 8/21/2006 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Medium-bodied wine that is dark magenta in color. On the nose, dark fruits and licorice. On the palate, tart black berry fruit and more licorice. Not a complex drink, but nice fruit and a full mouthfeel. Long finish of 20-30 seconds, but it can use a slight cool-down to knock down a touch of heat. Good QPR in the low $20's. (2608 views)
Tasted by E on 7/21/2006 & rated 87 points: did not follow my own advice on this one...failed to decant! (2620 views)
Tasted by Paul-Richard on 6/24/2006 & rated 90 points: Should have read the CT tasting notes before opening this one. Decanted but tasted immediately. Disliked it completely. Astringent, unbalanced, unfocused. 4 days later it drank very well. Rich, dark fruits, good balance, concentration, delicious licorice and dark chocolate finish. (2549 views)
Tasted by JonnyB on 6/23/2006 & rated 89 points: great QPR at $23 and the open house was really great at Siduri/Novy....I like this syrah a lot, especially at the price. It definitely needs several hours to open up though and is structured for some aging. (2501 views)
Tasted by obwine on 6/18/2006 & rated 87 points: Double decanted for an hour. Maybe should have let this one air a lot longer, but dinner was ready. Tight and a little hot, but had some nice dark, blue fruits trying to come through. Didn't change too much throughout dinner. (2679 views)
Tasted by E on 6/1/2006 & rated 91 points: Really did not like this day one...but did not decant. Came back to this day two and was glad I did. Great nose. Rich and deep. Great QPR. I'd venture that decanting for several hours will improve one's initial experience with this wine. (2704 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
