EXCELLENT! (654 views)
Tasted by Colowine on 12/23/2023: Almost got the cork out in one piece. Amazing wine in a great place. Deep, rich, vibrant, complex. (387 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 4/8/2023 & rated 92 points: The cork crumbled as it was extracted and was quite saturated with wine. I suspect poor storage conditions. As this wine is known for, still very dark in color. This is still retaining a good amount of fruit but there is also a distracting medicinal note. (914 views)
Tasted by Thoughtful on 4/2/2023 & rated 95 points: Stored in a cold cellar since release. Cork collapsed so realise why 19th century used red hot tongs! Lovely bouquet. Surprisingly deep and young tasting. Medium bodied with great balance and persistence. Thought drinking up some port that must nearing end of life. Quite wrong. Years of life left. A revelation for a year that was rated only good to very good on release. (872 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 11/18/2022 & rated 95 points: FTLOP 17th Anniversary; 11/18/2022-11/20/2022 (Seattle, Washington): Dark, almost completely opaque. The nose has wonderful, complex notes of blackberry, black plum, and chocolate. On the palate, there is a fantastic structure, with black licorice, anise, and cocoa powder. The tannins are well-structured as well on the long, beautiful finish. (1104 views)
Tasted by PortFanatic on 7/16/2022 & rated 94 points: Very dark color. Closed nose. Intense blackberry palate. Very concentrated. HUGE wine! Still substantial tannins. This will live a very long time. (1298 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 7/16/2022 & rated 96 points: Guys' Port Weekend - July 2022; 7/15/2022-7/16/2022 (Boulder Creek, California): Almost opaque purple in color with slight garnet on the edges. Rich floral and red fruits on the nose. Smooth boysenberry and amazing structure on the palate. This is showing so young. Rich, red fruit and wonderful long smooth finish. (1362 views)
Tasted by Border Boss on 2/16/2022 & rated 99 points: From magnum. Double decanted five hours before service. Some eucalyptus on the nose. Dark red with no sign of color loss. Completely balanced. Hardly any alcohol heat. Chocolate and dark fruits on the palate. Still very youthful with decades of life ahead of it. In this format, it'll easily go another 40 years. Really easy to drink. An incredible wine. It may not be a perfect port, but it's damn close. (1388 views)
Tasted by markdemey on 1/5/2021 & rated 94 points: Still fresh after 40 years! In a rather dry style, with mint and cassis flavours, still quite tannic. 1980... time in a bottle! This was my last bottle, up to my Churchills 1994. (2428 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 12/24/2020: Not rating. Past it's prime. In the glass it was a very translucent muddy water color - very light brown in color. Very thin viscosity.
Flavors were all like a very old and weak brandy than they were any fruit. Unfortunately, all the fruit had long since left this bottle and we opened another bottle in it's place. (2773 views)
Tasted by bon vivant on 11/16/2019: Hard to believe that it has been 8 years since i tasted this and it had lovely red fruit and good balance. luckily a clean bottle without TCA as things were starting to improve with this vintage after the dreaded run of 77's. I wish this would have been decanted as it was still a bit hot but a very nice showing tonight and better then I recall from earlier days. (3120 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 8/30/2019: Is 1980 a forgotten year, between the legendary '77 and the '83, because this is a great port that shows better than some from those more lauded vintages. Concentrated blue/black palate, fuzzy/velvety tannins, with a hint of walnut liqueur on the back of the long palate, I describe this succinctly as "dark velvet walnuts". Seems to miss a beat on the second night, but in all fairness, my palate was not the sharpest after the wines and food at the Ben Harper concert. On the third night, however, this is just glorious, with a smooth, cashmere like texture, dark fruit, and a pulsing, energetic presence, with a great integration of sweetness and spirit. Albert declared this to be special. In the Berkshires. (3434 views)
Tasted by mukden on 12/6/2018 & rated 93 points: YES. Really good, smooth and amazing fruit. No tannins. Beautiful wine. (3824 views)
Tasted by srh on 1/13/2018: Winebar [2 Whts, 8 Reds, & 2 Shared Bottles] from 1/12/18 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: GORGEOUS, VERY complex, but tough to parse

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with SWTISH frt so NICELY balanced by acidity. The finish goes on... FOREVER! Not REMOTELY tired! My EXCEPTIONAL- (& I've probably UNDERreated it)! 95 pts RJonWine & Jamie Goode, 92 WE, & 91 WS. Jancis Robinson has reviewed it thrice, from oldest to youngest: 17.5/20, 18/20, & 17/20.

Dr. Tom, you're SO *generous* with what you share! :) (4070 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 5/11/2017 & rated 95 points: Bricked medium red color with medium orange meniscus; aromatic, mature, dried fig, dried cherry, caramel cherry, cigar box nose; delicious, complex, mature, dried fig, dried cherry, caramel cherry, cigar box, coffee, Turkish delight palate; long finish 95+ points (804 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 2/18/2017: Was hoping for a little more at this point, especially since I let it aerate in decanter for 5 hours. I guess I wanted it to be ready more than it wanted to be ready. Nice underlying material as far as I can tell (still rather closed, too fruity). Maybe check on it in a decade and see if it's budged/open. HOLD.

Served non-blind. (5651 views)
Tasted by SlimShaney on 12/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Ahh 1980. The year it all began. Luxurious palate of spiced autumn forest. Lingering notes of charred wood. (4516 views)
Tasted by Mascarello59 on 12/8/2016: Quick taste at Hedonist wines.
Way too young still. This feels almost primary fruity with raisin flavors and a high acidity. I have very little experience with middle age Port in the first place but this felt very warm and giving a sensation of alcohol fumes. I’m sure most of my doubts would fade over time and the wine would surely end up delivering a much much better version in 15-20 years time. (4196 views)
Tasted by Argrath on 10/23/2016 & rated 90 points: (Blind tasting)
Still youthful, black fruit aroma. Dense but hidden depths of complexity. Not ready.
Youthful, full, dense, tight palate. Dark fruit. Some pepper notes show a tiny bit of development. But not harmonius - alcohol, sweetness and fruit here and there. Has not come together. Wait 10 years.
We gussed on 1994 or 1992... (3382 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 3/30/2016 & rated 93 points: Smooth, decanted for 4 hours, with chocolate dessert, lasting on the palate. (3835 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/12/2015 & rated 88 points: Magnum Man Cellar Depletion (Northfield, IL): Black berries and plums that come across as tasty, sweet and fresh, but with the most faint spice hints, giving this a somewhat one-dimensional character. While not very nuanced, it went perfectly with dessert. (4529 views)
Tasted by canan on 8/28/2015 & rated 92 points: Vintage Port 1980 (Portvinsklubben 1981): Dense blackberry fruit with a lovely almond touch on the mid-palate. A beautiful wine with a juice and fresh acidic character. Showing a hint of camphor in the aftertaste.
Still quite young. (3952 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 3/1/2015 & rated 89 points: Good flavor, strawberry, a bit light on the finish. (3886 views)
