Community Tasting Notes (average 87.1 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Westgate Wine Store on 1/7/2021: This wine simply has it all. It’s very rich and full-flavored and quite Burgundian, yet the balance, freshness and acidity belie this richness. As does its 13% alcohol. And I suspect it will continue to age gracefully for some time. Best of all, it’s a bargain. Even at its normal $55 price. And certainly at only $29 (193 views)
Tasted by Keith Clark on 12/25/2019 & rated 89 points: No detailed note, but drinking really well - but the big structure suggests it has more time left. (250 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 10/14/2018 & rated 85 points: Same wine I stated last time. Tropical fruit and wood on the nose. On the palate has oak is too prominent, the fruit is tropical with pineapple, mango and some citrus and a bit spice in the background. It’s a weighty Chardonnay and a style I don’t like. (356 views)
Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 5/13/2018 & rated 87 points: Golden colour with a visible spritz. Nose of ripe tropical fruits including pineapple, banana and mango. The wine is weighty, oak is prominent with ripe pineapple, banana and mango fruit, alcohol is noticeable which rather spoils it. Feels a little overworked and out of balance. (387 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 11/2/2015 & rated 89 points: Light straw yellow color; nutmeg, butter, tart apple nose; poised, tart apple cream, lemon, light butter palate with good balancing medium acidity; medium-plus finish (13.5% alcohol) (353 views)
Tasted by CJM on 4/3/2015 & rated 80 points: Clear pale straw. Slightly effervescent. Plastic, apricot, white peach. Slightly sweet, low acids, very low tannins. Banana. Medium slightly acidic finish. (1114 views)
Tasted by Keith Clark on 12/25/2014 & rated 89 points: Good, almost sparkly gold. Nose of apples and a little pine wood; acidic with a hint of metal. Perhaps a little lime and some diluted tropical fruit juice. Initial taste of caramel then more balanced toffee apple. Sharp acidity and good fruit. Well balanced. (1010 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.

Carneros

Straddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties.
