Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 44 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NiklasT on 3/31/2024 & rated 91 points: Very enjoyable with lovely citrus, tropic fruits, ripe apple and rubber notes. Quite developed and less intensity now - drink up soon. (611 views)
Tasted by gtilley on 3/31/2024: A very odd thing happened...went to take what I thought were my last two bottles of the 2017 from the cellar, to find that what was there was these 2 bottles of 2012 that I have no record of (and no 2017s). Have I drunk 4 bottles of 2017 not noticing that it was actually 2012? If not where did these come from? Anyway, delicious steely, classic Alsatian Riesling. Now the question is whether my previous notes for the 2017 are really for the 2012?! (673 views)
Tasted by 100points on 3/14/2024: Golden
Dry
Petrol, touch white flowers
Moderate acid, not a lot of fruit
Fine but not 100points (817 views)
Tasted by oxwombat on 1/12/2024 & rated 93 points: Opened at Caprice in HK for the Jean Trimbach x Egon Muller Celebration Dinner by the winemakers themselves. Slow-oxed since 3pm and poured at around 8:30.

This was absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Much more rounded out and ready to drink compared to the '17 served previously, more fruit and the acidity wasn't quite as overbearing. In a great spot right now and would probably seek out to drink. Really impressive, especially for the QPR.

Again, as per Jean, this is not a vintage that is likely to last for ages, given the relatively less pronounced acidity, but this is a wine that has blossomed young and is meant to be enjoyed. (1215 views)
Tasted by Callum's Corkers on 11/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Bought for £40.00 in 2020, I think. Probably from the Wine Society, UK.

Cork seal. Chilled.

N....faint intensity only, a touch of kero; zilch else.

C....deep straw, light gold.

T....floury-to-pithy white tannins suggest a Foodie style, there's some nice structure here which suggests a serious wine; near-dry on the scale; plenty of fruit but it seems a bit tart; good mineral profile; flavours are a bit short.

VFMoney?....costs around £40.00 but to me feels worth only around half of that. (1206 views)
Tasted by MC on 10/3/2023: PNP. Mature but fresh and complete riesling that has very nice balance and goes well with food. A- (1122 views)
Tasted by Isobel goudi on 7/1/2023 & rated 95 points: Exzellenter Riesling. Gehört zu den top 5 rieslingen, die ich bisher verkostet habe (1202 views)
Tasted by JonathanFlavell on 4/24/2023: Half. Mid gold, with nose of lemon, lime, apple. pear, peach, apricot, pineapple, smoke, petrol & wet stones. Oily texture with lovely mouth weight/feel. Strong acidity and to taste more apple, pear, lemon, lime, pineapple, peach, banana, smoke, slate & wet stones. Long and absolutely delicious but with many years in hand. (1475 views)
Tasted by ProfAvi on 3/24/2023 & rated 94 points: I've given this a high score because when I open a bottle of aged riesling I want petrol on the nose and this has it, but it's more of a honeyed petrol which is even more enticing. Dripping with legs suggesting an unctuousness that is evident on the palate and then a nice stripe of acidity coming it at the end.
This is lovely now and I don't care too much what it may develop into.
I have a 6 bottle case, well 5 now, and I can see them all being drunk this year! (1283 views)
Tasted by stivo on 3/22/2023 & rated 93 points: Quite different with their new basic riesling.
This wine is mixed from two grand cru.
The aroma of kerosene continues to develop, and it can continue to age. Unfortunately, it opened in a very boring wine party. (1217 views)
Tasted by Rodenbach99 on 3/6/2023 & rated 91 points: Dégustation Riesling. Nez de pétrole exubérant. Bouche minéral avec des parfums de fruits blancs, de chèvrefeuille, de fleurs. Bonne amertume en bouche. Il est loin d'avoir dit son dernier mot. (1149 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/29/2023: Medium yellow. All of the classic CFE attributes are here-tea, stone fruit, citrus in a package with minimal residual sugar. It's just modulated down a bit-sedate, demur, a tad less acidity than usual. Not concentrated but certainly not dilute. In fact, a pleasant, positive surprise. Showing well but this is not a 2001 or 2008 that can be held forever. (1865 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 12/25/2022 & rated 92 points: a little more petrol now which is nice (907 views)
Tasted by Luke275 on 10/16/2022: Classic alsace rielsing. Rich yellow fruits and lime. Subtle, but complex. Still very young but well balanced and great already. (1119 views)
Tasted by christian.tellvik@limab.se on 6/20/2022 & rated 90 points: Yellowing, golden. Ripe fruit with hints of caramel and butter caramel. Diesel. Tighten any short apple drink. A little over. (1699 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/8/2022: Medium yellow. After the more exotic 2013 last week, this was fairly classic all around. Black tea and stone fruit aromas. Medium weight and intensity, quite calm. Just off dry, a bit of glycerine sheen, more lemon than peach, a good amount of soil, very solid acidity. At this point, it lacks the drive to be considered a great Frédéric Emile, but this is sneaky good, and I could see it improving. (2068 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 6/6/2022: Favorites - 2022 Wine Spectator Grand Tour - Las Vegas: Very floral nose, with plenty of petrol and edgy citrus zest and pith. Complex palate, richly layered yet bright, adding lots of savory spice and earth. Needs time but very memorable. (2007 views)
(1506 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 5/7/2022 & rated 92 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Pale golden color. Nose way more open than the CSH, lots of ripe fruit and herbs.
On the palate ready for the show: Lovely pure ripe fruit, salty mineral core, good balance and length. Drink now, but absolutely no need to hurry, will last another decade, but I doubt it will improve. 92-93 (2370 views)
Tasted by goldenplover on 2/27/2022 & rated 95 points: Absolutely top class Alsace riesling. Exciting, expressive. No rush to drink up. Surprised by some of the slightly underwhelmed notes here as this exceeded my (already high) expectations. Wonderful fruit, acidity, liveliness, length. (1340 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 1/3/2022 & rated 91 points: Petrol, lemon, ginger, white flowers (1629 views)
Tasted by FEDEVIDAL on 12/10/2021 & rated 89 points: Color amarillo pálido con tonos verdosos y capa baja.
Tasted by Pontifax on 8/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Not quite the calibre of the 2011 CFE tasted over a year ago.
On nose: marzipan, ginger, green apple, and a ghost of petrol.
On palate: a follow through of above notes, with lime , tarragon , a hint of parsnip, and melon rind.....clean, but not overbearing acidity, balance this full flavoured wine.
Good choice for light curry or Thai or Szechaun foods.
Can still age well.....a pleasant dinner wine. (2038 views)
Tasted by BilboBaggins on 8/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Tasted from an open bottle at the winery.

Clean nose with light petrol notes and decent minerality. A little riesling herbs. Medium-low concentration.

Quite a disappointing showing for this otherwise popular wine. Not bad, but just in a different league to the much better showings at Weinbach, Albert Mann and in particular Zind Humbrecht. (1960 views)
Tasted by Poa on 7/22/2021 & rated 91 points: really good , would buy again (1692 views)
