Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by BillBell73 on 3/31/2023: This is fairly early in its drinking window and needs a few more years to develop complexity, but the bones here are really good. The nose is deep and powerful with peach and a bit of lactic richness. On the palate this is fairly dry with excellent acidity and stone fruit, and there are the first notes of that lightly caramelized richness this wine develops with age. In 3-5 years this should be hitting its stride, although it’s an excellent wine in its current state. (508 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/21/2023: Tulip color. Guava and apple. Middle weight, some glycerine. Off dry, quite earthy, excellent acidity. Bitter citrus, a touch of tropical fruit, good tart acidity, and a long soil finish. This has fleshed out nicely over the last 6 years and is really very good now. (1031 views)
Tasted by 87tellub on 12/17/2022 & rated 93 points: Wine Club Holiday Party 2022: Very clear, fanning out to a light rich gold at the rim. Nose gives away candle wax and petrol. Lovely mouthfeel and texture that coats the tongue. There is a richness to this wine without being heavy. Mix of tropical fruit (passion, guava, pineapple) and citrus, leaning more toward the former. Lovely stuff. (650 views)
Tasted by lonesomerockguy on 3/13/2022: Chez SC out of magnum. clean, neutral nose of green apple, very zippy, possibly in dumb phase (896 views)
Tasted by JJYoyo on 5/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Similar notes to last time although for some reason this time I just seemed to enjoy it more. Lots of peach, slight lychee, touch of sweet spice. Not as transcendent as the superb 2010 I had a while ago but still a very clean and enjoyable Alsace.
Score: 93. Relative to expectations : ++ (1256 views)
Tasted by JJYoyo on 1/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Very nice Alsace, full of peach and light citrus notes. A touch of spice. Lighter body than I expected. Delightful.
Score: 92-93. Relative to expectations: + (1078 views)
Tasted by dkentaustin on 12/10/2020 & rated 93 points: Crisp Amalfi emon rind and a light hint of white peach along with subtle apple. Clean minerality, great crushed stone and a beautiful, light petrol. Very precise wine in subtle ways. We miss the glass topper that use to come with this wine, but always love Weinbach and naturally lean toward Alsatian wines.

Excellent! (1166 views)
Tasted by Mazy on 1/29/2018 & rated 89 points: PNP. Profil sec. (2288 views)
Tasted by 87tellub on 6/17/2017 & rated 91 points: Mineral and grass notes on the nose and some soft pear and peach. Very nice palate - rich, supple, zingy, nice lengthy finish. Very delicious. (2304 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/20/2017: Light color. Citrus and herbs. Light weight for this bottling. Off dry. Good orange peel and quinine, but its lack of oomph and penetration left something to be desired. Delicate but not entirely convincing rendering. (2743 views)

(2554 views)
Tasted by "Rhône Rider" on 9/16/2016 & rated 88 points: 2014 dom Weinbach, Riesling Schlossberg grand cru, Cuvee Ste Catherine
Mineralsk, litt steinete, gulfrukt.
Følger opp i munn mere rotete bilde, litt grønntpreg, mindre syre. Komplekst, men ikke helt i min gate. 88

Har smakt noen Weinbach etterhvert. Jeg er ingen fan av stilen. For meg blir det for mye gulfrukt og pære. Hadde den hatt mere syre ville det kanskje funket. (948 views)
Tasted by Dale M on 4/10/2016: So young, but very promising. Deceptively soft, watch your serving temperature here as the structure was altered dramitcally as it warmed, more acidity and focus as it sat in the glass. Classic Schlossberg CSC as outer an layer of lemon peel & dry extract coats the rich inner core, hard to rate, but should be a doozy in a few years. Very classy. (1873 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 2/3/2016 & rated 95 points: A special bottling of Grand Cru Schlossberg: the grapes are sourced from the Domaine's oldest plot located within the Grand Cru vineyard. 13,5% alcohol.

Pale lime green color. The nose feels youthful and very similar to the Grand Cru Schlossberg 2014 tasted alongside, along with a bit more ripeness, sweetness and depth of aroma: there are classic, sweet-toned Riesling aromas of zesty citrus fruits, white flowers, tangy green apples, some white peach, light spicy tones, a little bit of lemon marmalade and a hint of stony minerality. The wine feels remarkably concentrated and quite full-bodied on the palate, yet far from fat or flabby, thanks to the high acidity that keeps the balance wonderfully in check and lends impressive sense of structure to the wine. There are ripe and juicy yet racy and focused flavors of white peach, ripe red apples, some meyer lemon, a little bit of ripe apricots, light spicy herbal tones, a little bit of stony minerality and a fragrant hint of perfumed white flowers. The finish is very long, intense and pretty acid-driven with ripe yet dry flavors of lemony citrus fruits, ripe Granny Smith apple, some quinine mineral bitterness, a little bit of apple blossom, light white peach tones and a hint of pungent spice. The richness and sense of concentration lend a sense of gentle roundness to the aftertaste.

An outstanding, concentrated powerhouse of a Grand Cru Riesling that feels far from heavy or flabby despite its muscular and noticeably tactile presence. The old vine concentration is remarkable here and the difference between this wine and the lean, racy and tightly-knit "regular" Grand Cru Schlossberg is huge. Where the regular Schlossberg felt painfully young and so tightly-knit it'll need a decade or so to come around, this wine felt open for business from the day one. However, based on the power, intensity and sense of structure here, I wouldn't be surprised if out of these wines this one turned out to be the more cellarworthy wine in the long run. An outstanding wine. Pricey at 58,90€, but manages to deliver for the price. I wouldn't touch the wine in many years - there's still so much potential unrealized here. (777 views)
