Tasted by luHar1423 on 4/18/2024 & rated 92 points: Opened a bottle from my OWC6 for its 10-year anniversary and it was a good choice - perfect drinking window!
Smooth and silky tannins, nice acidity and the typical fruity notes in the nose as well as on the palate. Perfect get-together wine after a hard day of work. Pop your bottles and enjoy the Reserve de la Comtesse 2014 now and for the coming couple of years. (186 views)
Tasted by Juliansi on 3/7/2024 & rated 90 points: Slightly more relaxed and less tightly wound compared to a year ago, there is that signature pencil-lead or graphite aromatics.

On the palate, the plum and blackfruit notes prevailed with light vanilla which I assume comes from the high quality oak used. Immediately came across as being high in Merlot, and I found out later that the cépage was indeed 51% Cab with 41% Merlot, including 6% vin de presse.

Tannins are lightly grippy, best described as chalky. More pleasant when paired with dishes rather then on its own, at this stage.

This was a bottle I had cellared for over 2 years, when I first started off in my Bordeaux journey, and I was happpy to pop this last night with just some light bottle-breathing at Oriental Treasure with PQ and L over Chinese-style beef and Roast meats (Pork, Duck) too. We even took 1/3rd of the bottle home, and enjoyed it even more over Peaky Blinders!

Tasted by DanielOsman on 1/24/2024 & rated 92 points: Tasted against 5 other 2014 bdx from other appellations (Gloria, Lafon Rochet, Potensac, Fombrauge, Mauvesin Barton) Double decanted, probably wine of the night. Serious depth, smooth and refined, needed the air overnight but shone and had character and style. Great wine. (748 views)
Tasted by Khon Kaen on 12/7/2023 & rated 90 points: This is my birthday dinner again. All wines are uncorkeded 2 hours in advance.
Château Prieure-Lichine 2014. Agree with MOTZ. Wonderfully floral, wholly intoxicating perfume. It also featured muddle fresh berry, live herbs, and herbal tea notes. So pure, so Margaux.91
2014 Reserve Countess. It has relatively high acidity. After about 3 hours, the aroma develops and the wine becomes rich, more like Pauillac. More air would have helped. 90 (916 views)
Tasted by Irish_Wine on 11/22/2023 & rated 92 points: Smoky blackcurrant, spices and leather on the nose. Medium to full bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins. Lovely long finish. Impressive. Drink now or hold. (1013 views)
Tasted by penguinoid on 7/12/2023: OenoMacrowine conference gala dinner at Château Luchey-Halde (Château Luchey-Halde, Mérignac, Bordeaux, France): Medium purple. Cassis, black plum. Blackberry. Mulberry, elderberry. Smoke/charred oak. Dark, charred. Medium(+) tannins, medium acidity. (1624 views)
Tasted by nebbiolo666 on 6/26/2023 & rated 95 points: After 7 years from bottling date this wine keeps very well with deep ruby color on appearance.
On the nose is classic balanced lush and harmonious floral and fruity composition with hints of wood, earth, vanilla and a little black spices. With aeration comes leather and blueberry jam.
On the palate is harmonious, not bone-dry, opulent medium+ body with nice medium+ acidity. Blue berries, vanilla, oak and sweet spices. Long finish. Very balanced and fruity Pauillac wine.

Drink it now and to 2030. (1313 views)
Tasted by MR1 on 5/7/2023 & rated 90 points: Still has potential, try again in a couple of years (1389 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 4/16/2023 & rated 89 points: Nice dark ruby. On the nose, aromas of blueberries, floral and herbal notes. Touch of graphite. On the palate, the attack is frank, with lots of present tannin surrounding the fruit. A good length and a good acidity in this. Aromas as found on the nose, but also a metallic touch. This seems somewhat less ripe bordering on touches of green. Aromas of chocolate-mint fade-in and out around the one hour mark. The balance this is way more tenuous than on the Pagodes de Cos of the same vintage. My preference goes to the Pagodes de Cos for balance and ripeness. This warrants about an 89 or so and does not yet appear to be ripe, though it may never reach full ripeness and may simply dry out with time. 89 (1210 views)
Tasted by Volleyball on 4/4/2023 & rated 90 points: Not bad, but strangely lacking on oomph, particularly around the middle and back palate. Fairly plus wine (higher than normal Merlot content)? (1361 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 3/10/2023 & rated 90 points: BTG with our tasting menu cheese course. Very smooth and easy to drink. Tannins still noticeable and youthful. Tobacco, plummy fruit. (2099 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 11/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Very attractive aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and pencil shavings, then an arresting attack of red fruits, mainly cherry and redcurrant, before creamy blackcurrant takes over, filling the palate gloriously before gliding effortlessly to the long, elegant finish. A little green pokes its head up from time to time, but otherwise very enjoyable and at 36 euros, I would definitely go back for more. I've had bottles of PLL in the past that I enjoyed a lot less. 92 pts

Before visiting Pichon Comtesse this summer, I had only tried La Réserve a couple of times and had not been impressed, but like the 2019 I tried, this would seriously challenge some Pauillac CCs at around the same price. (1896 views)
Tasted by BCJ99 on 9/25/2022 & rated 92 points: Tasted after 3 hours of aeration, dark fruits, graphite, cedar. Very balanced. Powerful and rich but with silky tannins and good acidity. (1863 views)
Tasted by Juliansi on 8/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Oh... how you were singing last night, in my books anyway. Definitely in my Top 2 of favourite "second wines" in my 2 years of Bordeauxs so far!

That graphite freshly shaved pencil lead nose was intoxicating, elegant blackfruits on the palate and a medium-long finish. Tannins are fine and will only improve, luscious mouthfeel.

59% Cab Sauv, 41% Merlot with some Vin de presse. Pichon Lalande whom I have never tried crafts an amazing second wine here, one which can be drank young at circa 8 or less years.

Pichon Lalande has some ultra illustrious neighbours in Pauillac.. Located next to parcels owned by Chateau Latour, Chateau Pichon Baron, and Chateau Lynch Bages! After being owned by only 2 families over 250 years, in 2007, they changed hands to the owners of Roederer Champagne.

This 2nd wine was first released in 1973 commercially, Reserve de la Comtesse, after which relabelled in 2019 as Pichon Comtesse Reserve. What I love best about this Reserve Comtesse 2014 is how soft, and elegant it is!

Tang Room, Starling Mall in Malaysia - 6 Aug 2022 (2312 views)
Tasted by Vanja1 on 3/11/2022 & rated 89 points: Røde bær som kirsebær og jordbær, sjokolade og lett fat. Bra munnfølelse, medium pluss syre, ferske tanniner og god lengde. God vin dette! (2703 views)
Tasted by Carlos Fellipes on 7/25/2021 & rated 89 points: Decanted for 30 mins.

Nose - fruity and earthy classic Pauillac.

Palate - touch of blackberry with soft tannins. Wine needed decant. Merlot is evident in this wine.

Nice balance and enjoyable but lacked anything defining. At qpr better wines from lesser appellations could be find. (3216 views)
Tasted by tictacjunkie on 1/30/2021: Drinking very well, good nose and length (3374 views)
 Tasted by In2wines on 4/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Bordeaux April 2020
Most of the 2014' Bordeaux seems closed at the moment and remains very young, no exception for this one, need serius decanting and can easily be opend 24h hours before ... very classic Pauillac, all the right things at the right place, dark pencil, pure mature fruit on the darker side, makes you happy. Down side is price, it have gone to far the past 10 years like the other Pichon on the other side of the road, like Las cases's second wines Petit Lion and Marquis, 40% over priced and in the same basket you can add all the other second wines in Bordeaux ... .. . 2014 a good wine, not as much fun as the 2012 Reserve but will hit it in some years.
Drink 2022-2026 (4561 views)
Tasted by Wwinowillie on 3/6/2020 & rated 88 points: Deep ruby with deep garnet edges. The nose is almost liqueur or licorice, oak, vanilla, baking spices. Light body, nice tannin that is fairly light but still there, after taste lingers for a long time but isn’t especially layered. There’s almost an influence of vine, this old world wine probably goes beyond my depth as I’m not experience reviewing these. Definitely olive herbaceous chalky maybe a little blackberry. (3946 views)
Tasted by neomarcel on 2/1/2020 & rated 90 points: relatively more acidity, it needs cca another 3 years to rounded, vibrant second wine to delight (3710 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 1/2/2020 & rated 86 points: The 14 Reserve de la Comtesse shows a brash, assertive nose that's dominated by oak, funk, and rich dark fruit. Blocky and rich, this isn't exactly in the same stylistic mold as the grand vin and will take some time to mellow. (4065 views)
Tasted by Khon Kaen on 12/3/2019 & rated 90 points: A good second wine in a good vintage. So easy drinking. This is definitely ready to drink. Balanced and mature. Elegant and subtle. Enjoy! (2783 views)
Tasted by AlbertaOenologist on 10/20/2019 & rated 89 points: I like all Pauillacs so I did enjoy this. It was a bit thin I thought, not nearly as full-bodied as the real Comtesse. I'm not sure if the value is there. Maybe it's better to save up for the genuine Comtesse. (1909 views)
Tasted by alexfrank on 10/4/2019 & rated 92 points: Outstanding. Bright, vibrant, beautiful tannins, long finish. I would drink this every night if I could. Just gorgeous. Note to self: buy more. (1654 views)
Tasted by dnnk88 on 6/4/2019 & rated 88 points: Cassis, faint flowers aromas. Tasted blueberries, cassis. Slight minerality and oak on the finish. This is easy and direct drinking. Ok to open now (2281 views)

This is the second wine of 2. Cru Classé Chateau Pichon Longeville Comtesse de Lalande of Pauillac.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Médoc

Vins du Médoc (Conseil des Vins du Médoc) - Read More about the Medoc

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Pauillac

Read more detailed information about Pauillac Looking full onto the river from the earliest days, with an important port activity, traces of which go back to ancient times (shipment of bronze as long ago as 2000 B.C.), Pauillac's life has always been intimately linked to the history of wine. Although port activities were at the root of its prosperity, Pauillac had to wait until the eighteenth century when Bordeaux ceased to hold its privileged position to become a wine port. The town then became the natural outlet for the wine production of neighbouring cantons before reaching its zenith in a period when the vineyards were exceptionally prosperous.

The characteristic of the Pauillac terroir is its exceptional relief: the many undulating ridges make it unique morphologically speaking. Highly favourable conditions facilitate the dissection of the layer of gravel. This thin, Garonne gravel from whose very poverty springs great richness, has an extremely effective natural drainage.

With their velvet red colour with a hint of amber, the wines from the Pauillac appellation, full-bodied and rich in tannin, are vigorous. Powerful when young, their aromas of red fruits (black-currant, raspberry) or flowers (violets, roses, irises) melt with the passing of time into a bouquet which is long in the mouth.
Rich and complex, the wines of Pauillac deserve to be laid down for a little longer.

Production conditions (Decree dated November 14, 1936)

In order to have the right to the Pauillac appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:
- come from the commune of Pauillac and from precisely defined parcels in the communes of Cissac, Saint-Julien, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Sauveur, "excluding the parcels situated on recent alluvium and sand on impermeable subsoils",
- satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (45 hectolitres per hectare).
