I just had a 2016 demi-sec Le Mont a few days ago and it was more enjoyable. This is still nice, but not the usual fireworks. 5+11+17+7= 90 (2880 views) | | Tasted by Wine Canuck on 12/27/2020: This pours medium golden. The nose complex showing wet wool, beeswax, baked apple, a touch of VA, earth, and honey. The palate as expected is a touch off dry with medium plus acid and a lengthy finish replaying the wet wool, honey and baked apple. Very enjoyable and a vouvray classic, though perhaps a little more advanced than I might have expected. I do think this is not a great bottle or vintage of Huet as the great ones are stellar. This was good with the risotto Milanese tonight as the saffron really did well with the Demi-sec style and the orange notes of the wine. A good bottle but not a great bottle. (2604 views) | | Tasted by fingers on 6/11/2020 & rated 89 points: Not my favorite Huet, which is to say it’s still pretty darn good. Deep gold color, clear and sound. No sediment. A little funky VA at the pop that disappeared within an hour. Light bouquet intensity and somewhat light bodied mouthfeel for a demi-sec. Very nice pineapple/grapefruit/white peach flavors with medium-high persistence but it just seems a little empty in the middle. I cannot fathom a guess on its future potential, but it doesn’t seem to have the structure that I usually associate with a long term prospect. 5+10+16+8= 89 (2758 views) | | Tasted by aagrawal on 4/18/2020 & rated 88 points: Coravin. Medium golden color, about appropriate for Chenin Blanc; medium intensity aromatics with quince, baked apples, slightly honeyed; palate is medium bodied, off dry, richly textured but with fresh medium-plus acidity, medium alcohol (13% listed), fruit is never that prominent but fades entirely through the midpalate; finish is short-medium. This doesn't seem overly advanced or premoxed for a Chenin blanc of this age, but I do think the length on the midpalate and finish as well as the general limited complexity hold this Huet back compared to many others that I've tried. I have more, so I will see whether more age helps. 88 For a glass comparison: Zalto universal showed more minerality on the nose, while Jancis Robinson's glass was a bit richer and rounder. I prefer the Zalto right now. 1-2 hours decanted: similar, though aromatics may be slightly more pronounced and finish may be just slightly longer than before. Heading in a positive direction. (2367 views) | | Tasted by djarcara on 4/9/2020 & rated 93 points: Golden color. Medium body. Flavors of apple, a touch of golden raisins, quince, mild butterscotch with a pronounced acidity. Has another 15 years ahead of it. Lovely. (1817 views) | | Tasted by David_K on 2/1/2020: Similar experience to MATTIASJANSSON - this looked advanced and smelled advanced, but tasted fresher than expected given the immediate visual and olfactory attributes. Quite a bit of minerals and acidity actually, finishing dry. Still, it just didn't feel quite right or as good as it could and should have been. (I had a 2010 Bourg Demi-Sec recently that was far fresher.) This is not bad, but after getting burned with 2014 Chidaines, I can't help but feel like 2014 Vouvrays are not aging as well as hoped. (2219 views) | | Tasted by mattiasjansson on 1/22/2020: This is my second disappointing Huet this week. The other one was a 2013 Le Haut-Lieu Sec. This was also surprisingly golden for its age. Some sherry notes and over-ripe apples. Maybe I just prefer them younger? Interestingly, it did improve with time in the glass. Withholding score as I'm starting to think it's me, but it would have been in the 87-88 range. (2030 views) | | Tasted by RichEB1 on 3/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Seriously, is there a better value in the white wine world than Huet?? Delicious wine full of waxy, citrus fruits, bruised apples and a perfect streak of honey-laden acidity across the finish. Medium+ bodied goodness that is sure to leave a smile on your face while making you think at the same time. So happy to have more of this. (2332 views) | | Tasted by jsherdc on 11/22/2018 & rated 91 points: Slightly sherry, which blows off. Much less sweet than usual. Nice as usual. (2051 views) | | Tasted by glou.sf on 7/23/2018 & rated 92 points: Minerals, honey, oranges, and green melon on the nose. Nice balance between the sweetness and acidity. More honey on the palate with citrus and ripe pear flavors. Nice finish. 92+ Wife: 92-93 (2671 views) | | Tasted by RichEB1 on 7/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Really young for sure but so enjoyable. Medium + bodied, citrus, apple, and fresh wool dipped in honey. At this age I actually preferred it a bit colder than most of my whites, as it seemed a bit heavier as it warmed in the glass. No harm opening one now to capture the youthful exuberance, but this wine has a long, bright future ahead of it. (2456 views) | | Tasted by short and confused on 6/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Golden yellow. Honey, ginger, touches of tropical yellow fruit. Amazing wine for $35. (2578 views) | | Tasted by rikipedia on 11/28/2017 & rated 92 points: Terroir-istes International - France, Loire, Domaine Huet (The Fat Butcher, Stellenbosch): (Tasted Blind): A mid-gold to light amber colour. Lifted notes of honey, earth, Gala and Granny Smith apples, wet earth, and petrichor. The palate reveals more richness (warmer year?) and less acid, more lively than strident—off-dry with a pithy, shrivelled apple skin texture and good length but without much depth. Lacks a little focus, the flavours are welcoming with dried peach, clementine, and apricot mixing with mineral and a sea salt quality. It certainly felt better as it opened in glass. (754 views) | | Tasted by djarcara on 11/5/2017 & rated 93 points: Medium body. Apple, butterscotch, citrus combine with a great minerality and bracing acidity offsetting a lovely restrained off dry sweetness. This is young, primary, and energetic right now. Has 15 plus years ahead of it. A great wine that will only get better with time. (2450 views) | | Tasted by DaddyNeedsPow on 5/3/2017 & rated 93 points: I'm in love. Trending towards the tropical with a nose of dried pineapple--restrained and elegant though, lest you think this is going the way of some California monster. More expected notes of apple and beeswax are there too. The entry on the palette is sweet, then transitions to puckering acid and a very dry finish. Fun to drink, but its best years are far in the future. It was fun to think with what this might pair well, and opinions offered everything from smoked salmon to scallops to cheese platter. (2822 views) | | Tasted by rossi.wine on 5/17/2016 & rated 92 points: Good richness, quite sweet on the palate at first, but then really fresh and lively. Lovely length. Really nice with great potential. 91-92+ (3519 views) | | Tasted by Zweder on 4/13/2016 & rated 92 points: Monthly Tasting Group HWS #108; Chenin Blanc Worldwide (By SB): Very beautiful and expressive bouquet with flowers, green apples and minerals. Elegant. On the palate white fruits, apple, pineapple, citrus acidity and in fact still a bit locked. Very clean and fresh style. (3518 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/5/2016: Bruised apple, lean minerality of the vintage Les nose. (3817 views) |
