Tasted by Ex-Ray on 4/2/2024 & rated 92 points: Fifth time tasted since 2012. Some brown edges, more translucent than before. Prominent but soft cassis and lead pencil aromas, slightly herbal and mocha elements, complex. Very round, smooth and elegant flavors, not a powerful full-bodied wine, but nicely balanced sweet cassis fruit. Medium long aftertaste. By evening the fruit had mostly faded. It's past its prime. Drink up, no prior decanting needed, best to drink within 2-3 hours of opening.

Tasted by BBencz on 1/27/2024: Decanted for 30 minutes. Loads of black fruit, mocha, and pencil lead. Easily good to go for another decade to 15 years. Really nice cab. (176 views)
Tasted by Rbhan12 on 12/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Part of a steakhouse dinner. This was not decanted prior and was PnP at the table. There is a lot of sediment and this really needs a good 60-90min in the decanter to wake up. Note copied below. 15.4% ABV

"Relatively quiet nose. Palate is full bodied with dried cherry and some red clay earth. Finish is quite long and persistent. Wasn’t blown away by this prized bottle. Excellent quality but probably not for me. 94 quality" (339 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 4/4/2021 & rated 95 points: Wow! Much more rounded and complex than expected. Intense, dark fruit, a bit more oak than more recent vintages. Great! (1669 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 2/27/2021: Opened and decanted for about 12 hours before rebottling and bringing to the wine event. I do love Jayson's work and no different here although to be fair this was prob a baby killing. Could certainly go for another 20+ years and I think might give it time to get more balance with the fruit and develop some more secondary. What I love about his wines is while they are big and powerful and plush there's just that right amount of acid that pulls them back from the brink. Enjoyable. (1902 views)
Tasted by Staufer on 10/16/2020 & rated 96 points: . upon opening sweet cherries with a hint of tobacco , long legs . first sip besides cherries , hint of pear and rasberries in the words of my wife: "it doesnt get much better than this"
we dont have much experience with Cabs like this, but feel like it is in the perfect drinking window . Enjoy (1842 views)
Tasted by Topper on 7/24/2020 & rated 95 points: CT avg rating for this wine is 95 pts and that seem just about right to me Very well made. Might have been too big in its youth but now it is balanced and seductive while still showing some power. Fruit holds the tannins in check. Complex and nuanced for a cult cab. Would drink over the next 2-3 ears to see this at its best. (2036 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 4/27/2020 & rated 94 points: Tasted with 1999 La Sirena and 2013 MDV from Dalla Velle. This was excellent but our least favorite. Slight browning at the edges, now a bit translucent. Dark, rich cassis aromas, moderately pronounced, overtones of oak. Still has full-bodied dark fruit flavors but a bit coarse and still moderate tannin, not as smooth as the other two wines. I don't think it will get any better but should last a few more years.

Tasted by Ex-Ray on 3/26/2019 & rated 96 points: Dark and opaque. Somewhat reserved aroma of dark fruits. Rich and full-bodied flavors, very long aftertaste. Excellent balance. Outstanding cabernet, at its peak, very long aftertaste. Should last many more years.

Tasted by dkentaustin on 6/17/2018 & rated 97 points: Sweet, vanilla oak. Rich silky mouthfeel with a ripe raspberry, blackberry and cassis. Lengthy finish with beautiful grace but a hedonistic punch. Dances on the palate. Blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream. Lovely wine. Many years to go. (2503 views)
Tasted by NeuroWine on 5/19/2018 & rated 96 points: Big wine. Loads of aromas and flavors - dark fruits, fig, vanilla. Oak is right before the point of being unpleasant after a glass or two, nicely done. Paired with Australian Wagyu ribeye steak, seasoned only with salt & pepper and seared in cast iron, side of garlic sauteed wild foraged mushrooms. Finish goes on for ages. Well balanced and structured. This wine was born for steak! (2274 views)
Tasted by ChristyLeighNY on 1/20/2018: On the nose, sweet fruits, fig, spiced fruitcake, hint of spearmint , hint of bubble gum . Tannins are very mild and soft , medium acid. This might be past it’s prime , feels unbalanced with the high alcohol and fruit and less strength on the other components. We plan to drink the rest in the next year or so (2360 views)
Tasted by dkentaustin on 4/3/2017 & rated 98 points: Deep, dark color. Ripe blueberry, blackberry, fig, vanilla oak. Very seductive. Feels like suede on the palate. Seamless edges, well rounded with some tobacco smoke notes. Jayson is a perfectionist and you can tell in his wines. Drinking exceptionally well. Having with a ribeye, green beans, pierogis and a balsamic goat cheese arugula salad. (2995 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 1/27/2017 & rated 98 points: Favorite wine out of twelve in our group's "Favorite Bottle Tasting". Big, complex dark fruit and smoky aromas. Full-bodied, but perfectly balanced, with very concentrated dark fruit flavors; slightly high alcohol...big, long aftertaste. Probably at its peak, but should easily last another 5-10 years.

Tasted by ipp on 10/10/2016 & rated 97 points: One of the best bottle I had this year. Wonderful nose of dark fruit, coffee and chocolate. Huge cab, drinking like it was just bottle ... big and muscular. The palate is filled with dark fruit, but still a little overpowered by the massive tannic structure. This was still has lots of time, but drinking well now. (2391 views)
Tasted by WineWright on 8/19/2016 & rated 96 points: No time for a proper note, but Wow, these Hundred Acre wines really bring it... (2545 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 1/24/2016 & rated 95 points: Purple color with a bouquet and flavor of cassis and vanilla oak with wonderful nuance, depth, and balance, and a long finish. Very similar to the first bottle tasted. This is a wow. (3137 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 1/2/2016 & rated 96 points: Drunk the day after New Year's day with friends. Lovely deep purple color with a wonderful bouquet and flavor combining cassis with some eucalyptus. Very smooth mouth feel with great balance, definition, and nuance. Very long finish. This is what Cabernet Sauvignon should be. I will place Hundred Acre on my wine altar, along with Screaming Eagle and Bryant Family. (2537 views)
 Tasted by 1nono on 1/1/2014 & rated 95 points: Outstanding! (3435 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Perhaps it's simply a matter of style, but I found it difficult to remain interested in the wine. With its massive level of concentration of over ripe and extremely ripe fruits, lavish amount of oak and high level of alcohol, this was close to being over the top. I get that it's well made, which is where the score comes from, but for me, I found it tiring to drink. Tasters who like this style of wine will mark it much higher than I did. (5049 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 3/12/2012: 15.4% alcohol. Dark red color. Aromatic nose of ripe cassis and light graphite notes. In the mouth, cedar mixes with the cassis and graphite notes, with a touch of herbal. Ripe but tasty and good for earlier drinking. No heat on the finish. A- (4912 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 2/26/2012 & rated 94 points: On the nose there is a ton of sweet dark fruit, blackberry, dark raspberry and sweet oak (vanilla and cream). Palate is more of the same with superb balance. Not as complex as some later examples of the Kayli Morgan, but oh so good. I doubt this will improve anymore with age. (4491 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 2/6/2012 & rated 92 points: At Bernardin, with venison. Nice varietal characteristics, recognizable as California cabernet. A bit disappointing for the price, though. Some anise in the nose, some complexity, fully mature. Medium-full body, typical cassis-anise flavors. Soft tannins, medium aftertaste. This was a very nice wine, but we would have expected a bit more, given the price. I don't think it will get any better, so best to consume soon. Tasted with a '96 Harlan, which was also fully mature, very nice, but not the extraordinary wine we would expect from its pedigree and price. (4641 views)
Tasted by DonWinspear on 11/5/2011 & rated 94 points: Decanted 4 hours before drinking - a good option to allow some of the alcohol (15.8%) to blow off. Great nose of bright red fruit, cassis. This is a wonderful effort. Great palate that showcases the fruit, but not to the extent of being a fruit bomb. Very well integrated with the oak, hint of earth, some spice. A finish that lasted more than a minute. Gorgeous. (2321 views)
Tasted by Dr. Pato on 3/29/2011 & rated 94 points: Port-like sweetness with prominent but integrated tannins. Will wait on remaining bittles. (4209 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
