| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 218 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by thelostverse on 4/20/2024 & rated 90 points: Almond and brioche. The oxidative notes are taking over for my tastes. This has significantly declined in my taste since my prior bottle in 2021. Drink up. (80 views) | | Tasted by Vino Me on 4/20/2024 & rated 89 points: Opened by Lostverse. I last had this in 2014 and it shown better then. I previously had the 1988, 1995, 1998 and 1999 vintages of this wine. Disgorged November, 2014. Deep yellow color. Lighter bead. A deeper Champagne with almond and toast notes. Well aged and showing a little oxidative note. Drink now. 89 points. (118 views) | | Tasted by Brad C Hanson on 12/31/2023: Everyone loved it (591 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 8/3/2023 & rated 91 points: Our last bottle. Deep straw yellow color. Roasted pear and orchard fruit aromas with a nice floral element as well. Apple, nutty elements, wet dough and marshmallow flavors. Excellent; at peak for my palate. (1350 views) | | Tasted by Racer117 on 7/28/2023 & rated 94 points: A great showing. I preferred this over a '12 Cristal (obviously too young).
Very savory with yeast, ginger, spices, citrus rind. Not for neophytes! A great bargain at the $55USD I paid years ago. (1217 views) | | Tasted by Tartiflette on 7/27/2023 & rated 91 points: In a wonderful place right now. I won’t perform better than this. Nice fruit along medium acidity. Short aftertaste. (1188 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 7/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC): Straw yellow color looks more youthful in appearance than one might expect. Lingering mousse with a medium bead. Cashew, apple and marshmallow qualities on the nose and palate. In a great place. (1431 views) | | Tasted by schott on 11/5/2022 flawed bottle: Slightly oxidized. Detracts too much from what could otherwise be a good, not great bottle. No rating (2117 views) | | Tasted by NoelB on 8/19/2022 & rated 91 points: Our go to nv champers. (800 views) | | Tasted by DanielOsman on 6/24/2022 & rated 90 points: On first opening this was lovely, more developed than the last bottle I had, more tropical in fruit, acidity not as crisp, none of the nutty biscuit I prefer. It faded pretty quickly too. I would say it has peaked now. Drink up. (2208 views) | | Tasted by Cest_f on 6/3/2022 & rated 91 points: Wasn't stored perfectly, but lots of tropical fruits, still had clean minerals and a mildly steely backbone.
Hitting on all cylinders and time to drink up (2258 views) | | Tasted by Tannatastic on 4/22/2022 & rated 92 points: Starting to hit maturity, with still-lively bubbles, but more emphasis on mushrooms and autolysis, with a certain citrus kick, than previous experience of this vintage.
I think the VC vintage displays remarkable quality for not a considerable amount more - especially when found on discount - than it's (frequently inconsistent) NV stablemate.
Be interesting to see this again in a couple more years. (2337 views) | | Tasted by VoteferPedro on 1/1/2022: fantastic mousse and crystal clear fruit drinking great now (2581 views) | | Tasted by Francophile1 on 12/25/2021 & rated 91 points: Delicious, well balanced, fresh and good acidity. A solid 90+ vintage Champagne. (2151 views) | | Tasted by Keepleft on 12/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Delicious in all the correct places (1424 views) | | Tasted by Tartiflette on 12/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Good pop and consistent bobbles. Strong acidic grip throughout and fruit to match. Citrus, pear and mature apples as fruit plus hazelnuts, vanilla, brioche, and yeast. Just becoming interesting but has the acidity to last. (1450 views) | | Tasted by Border Boss on 10/17/2021 & rated 92 points: This wine is still very young even at 17 years old. It starts out light but develops with air. The bread dough/yeastiness gets stronger after about 30 minutes in the glass. The mousse is still strong. Drink now or hold another 10 years, but let it develop if you drink now. (1835 views) | | Tasted by Zed57 on 6/28/2021 & rated 92 points: Outstanding. Baked bread and a steely finish. Bubbles are loosing their steam so drink up. (1887 views) | | Tasted by Tartiflette on 6/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Good mousse and very strong acidity. Lacking some fruit though even though it doesn’t bring down the wine. Will last some time still. (1831 views) | | Tasted by Joelene on 6/12/2021 & rated 91 points: Some funk, surprising acidity, fresh but not as effervescent as younger Veuve. But very interesting and actually improved as the night went on. Interesting, we all liked this but it wasn’t the champagne of the night. (1771 views) | | Tasted by DanielOsman on 2/3/2021 & rated 92 points: Crisp. Nutty biscuit, great acidity. Beautiful. (2580 views) | | Tasted by SussexSB on 1/31/2021 & rated 92 points: Thought was 07 or 12. Zalto fizz glass. Rather good. Not complex but perfect for 5pm lockdown champagne Sundays. Acidity nicely in balance, and plenty of crunch left. No rush to use up. (2213 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 1/22/2021 & rated 93 points: Courtesy of tlv, and after a long day this was a great start to the evening. Shows a youthful pale yellow color- had tlv not told me '04 I'd have guessed '12. Lemon, apple and cooked ginger notes. Medium bead. Flavors of Meyer lemon, orchard fruit and marzipan. Lovely. (1944 views) | | Tasted by johnnyo on 12/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Exceptional Champagne. (2069 views) | | Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 11/27/2020 & rated 94 points: Happy Thanksgiving despite 2020. This stellar Ponsardin splendid with turkey and all the trimmings. (2290 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.ChampagneThe vineyards of Champagne on weinlagen-info |
