Tasted by AboveAvgBro on 3/17/2024 & rated 98 points: From a 1.5L magnum.

Absolutely incredible. 25 years old, and still kicking!
Acidity is still bright & shining. Tannins have mostly resolved, but there is still just enough to show they’re present.

Unreal how that Viader Liquid Cashmere nose of perfumed violets, candied dates and cassis evolves and matures with time. The taste is incredible - red plum, cassis, leather, tobacco, and some mature mountain herbs. It drinks more like Bordeaux than it does Napa

This was quite a magical experience, as I’ve never had a wine more than 20 years old AND Viader’s Liquid Cashmere is arguably my favorite wine across multiple vintages. So glad we decided to open this one now, as the days are getting numbered. (188 views)
Tasted by boillatm on 6/6/2022 & rated 91 points: Still very nice although I felt it was much closer to the edge of the cliff than the bottle I had a couple of months ago. Drink up (1552 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/15/2022: I have not opened a bottle in nearly a decade. This wine thrilled me when young, but now it is still charming even if getting tired. Too bad I kept a few bottles this long, still showing a bit too much tannin for the level of rich fruit. (2162 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 3/24/2022 & rated 91 points: Drinking well for its age and enjoyed. Still plenty of fruit, some nice development of flavors, chocolate, coffee, mint. I would buy again at the right price (under 60) (3030 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 10/22/2021 & rated 92 points: Very impressive. Smooth dark fruit, a hint of chocolate, long finish, elegant, but with a hint of richness. Drinking beautifully. (1758 views)
Tasted by boillatm on 8/30/2021 & rated 93 points: Drank with colleagues. Served around 20-30 minutes after opening. Beautiful wine that kept evolving once poured in the glass. Notes of cassis, tobacco and leather. Too bad there were so many of us, as I would have enjoyed drinking this wine over the course of a few hours. I may get some more as it's still available here in Switzerland. (1791 views)
Tasted by Gr8penut on 6/24/2021 & rated 91 points: From my posting on Instagram:

In Vino Veritas (in wine there is truth; people speak the truth when they are drunk), bottle #142 of my cellar sacrifices. A 1999 gem from Viader! At 61% Cab and 39% Cab Franc, this one had a fantastic nose and finish even after 22 years. Always a great wine from them, and this was no exception. 😀🍷🍷👍 👍 #wine #winelover #winelovers #viader #viaderwinery #napawine #napa #napavalley

Tasted by cephomer on 5/22/2021 & rated 93 points: PNP in Copake last nite. Fairly intense, perfume-laden nose of earth, dark chocolate tobacco and black fruit. Appearance is dark ruby in color with a tad of bricking at edges of my glass. This remains a full-bodied, intense and concentrated wine, still with plenty of black fruit--blackberries, black cherries, plums--but also tertiary notes of earth, tobacco, cedar and spice. There's a very noticeable amount of menthol here as well. After awhile too, the fruit took on a bit of a pruny/mushroomy quality. Tannins still somewhat noticeable, but are soft and mostly resolved. All ingredients are very nicely integrated, and the wine has developed a savory, forest/mountainish quality to it that I find very attractive. Overall, drinking quite well and showing off its 22 years in impressive fashion, with still some good years ahead. (1089 views)
Tasted by cufflink13 on 7/11/2020 & rated 86 points: A bit past its prime, firm yet light tannins, mild fruit (503 views)
Tasted by toomuchvino on 6/14/2020 & rated 95 points: Couldn't believe I was drinking a wine over 20 years old. Very balanced and youthful. (1663 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 4/14/2020 & rated 89 points: Medium bodied, sweet red and plum fruit flavors, elegant and drinking nicely. (1501 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 1/8/2020 & rated 94 points: Lunch at New Ubin CHIJMES. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Tasted blind.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with garnet edge. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, menthol, dark red cherries, black cherries, blackberries, blackcurrant, tobacco. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine rounded high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, dark red cherries, black cherries, blackberries, menthol, tobacco, cedar wood and Mediterranean spices. Long finish.
Very good quality. Fresh, yet so rounded and integrated. Real nice interplay of red and black fruit and the menthol, tobacco, spice elements. Very Cab dominant. i was guessing an aged SuperTuscan Cabernet-Merlot blend. Drinking at peak, but not in danger of dying any time!
Turns out to be 1999 Napa Red! 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Cabernet Franc.

Tasted by OpuMayaQuem on 12/22/2019: Closed. Needs decanting Time to open or more time in bottle. Enjoyable but not expressive. (1605 views)
Tasted by Lehrjet4 on 6/17/2019 & rated 93 points: Opened a Mag of this and decanted half the bottle. Wine was beautiful, big, and bold. Amazing color. Showed beautifully with lots of perfume, dark chocolate, violets, and green tobacco leaf. Corked the bottle and finished it the next day. Wine still held together great. Perfume was still noticeable, plum, and game meats.

Tasted by nzinkgraf on 6/14/2019: Thanks Steven! 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Cabernet Franc
Cab Franc really rings through on the nose. Iron-laced aromas. Some taco seasoning. Maturing and fattening fruit aromas. Palate is in a nice and easy soft spot. This has to be in a prime spot for drinking. 20 years out. Some developing underbrush tones, again, just as much savory/rustic mountainishness as there is fruit. Light tannin, nearly resolved. Nice timing. Drink to 2030. (1468 views)
 Tasted by Gr8penut on 1/12/2019 & rated 91 points: Scrumptious! :) (1530 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 9/30/2018 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured from magnum. Good balanced Napa cab. Moderate settlement at the end of the bottle. Slight bricking notable. Moderate nose of red and black fruits, some earth and secondaries notable. Palette was soft and easy to drink on its own, medium bodied. It was supple and the tannins were resolved. Very enjoyable. Paired ith crab legs, not the best pairing, but not horrible. In a good place tonight. Fun to drink these with some age on them. Still alive at 2+ hours. (1652 views)
Tasted by juicejammer on 9/28/2018 & rated 92 points: PNP. Still fresh and juicy with bright acidity. The red and blue fruits are background players but add adequate layers of complexity. Tannins are resolved and smooth with a touch of sweet vanilla. Holding up nicely. Drink now -2025 (1557 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 3/18/2018 & rated 93 points: Nose: Classic Viader nose of black cherry, shaved chocolate, herbs and intense violet notes. Distinctly from this property. Palate: Cool blue mountain fruit notes, but not heavy. Remains on the elegant side with cab franc lending a herb/floral profile to the resolved, suave Cabernet. Finish: Red fruit notes, florals and a pleasant leather note.

Balance on the 95, 98 and 99 Viader are remarkable. They remain elegant howell mountain expressions that are unique to the appellation. (2182 views)
Tasted by Winedad53 on 11/3/2017 & rated 84 points: I hate it when I wait too long. A bit oxidized, with a funky nose and a licorice/dark cocoa game going on. Can only hope that the older ones in my cellar have fared better. (2405 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 10/11/2017 & rated 91 points: Opened for the 14th Anny. Nice intact cork. Aromas of vanilla, cherry, leather, slight cedar. Very smooth, no signs of oxidization or tiring. (2172 views)
Tasted by RR47 on 4/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Color, a slightly rusty medium red . Nose dominated by pleasant raspberry and cedar. An elegant Bordeaux blend, balanced throughout. Enjoyable finish that begs another sip. This has stood up very well and certainly at least a few more years left in it. Cellared correctly since release. (2769 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 3/16/2017 & rated 90 points: Very tasty dark fruit, black cherry, plum and spice flavors. Smooth and elegant with a long finish. very enjoyable. (2736 views)
Tasted by bonedocnine on 12/25/2016 & rated 90 points: mature now but delicious with prime rib or other rich meat. Won't get any better so drink up! (2372 views)
Tasted by Kingston2 on 11/4/2016 & rated 93 points: Drinking wonderfully. Still loads of peppery fruit. Wonderful nose. Really enjoyable. (2269 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
