Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 2/10/2024 & rated 96 points: In Magnum.

Magnificent nose of crushed strawberry, rose, and smoke.

Mouth full of fullness, the attack on the palate is soft, very delicate, with bright red fruit. At no time can we say that this wine is 34 years old. Fine effervescence and beautiful acidity, this rosé is truly harmonious, a real Burgundian. Then the floral flavors take over, against a background of wet stone. It is a magnificent wine, all elegance and contrast. Each sip reveals a new facet but I must admit that I have rarely had such a floral rosé. Beautiful smoky finish on strawberries, great saline length.

Great rosé, deep, delicate and still so young! I remember drinking it for the first time in 2016 and this champagne left me a little hungry, this was not the case this time where it held its place. (261 views)
Tasted by kr522 on 8/13/2023 & rated 96 points: Out of mag this was delicious. Good freshness with excellent fruit and balance. I kept going back for more (582 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 7/28/2023 & rated 94 points: Still very much alive with good fizz and roasted breads, hints of strawberry fruit. (529 views)
Tasted by BrionHammond on 3/4/2023 & rated 94 points: Slighly oxidiced and brown in the rim. Off bottle? Still amazing tiny bubbles (829 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 2/20/2023: Magnum. Aging elegantly. Savory red fruit. Touch Smokey on finish. Lovely with sushi. (862 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 1/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Delicious nose between dried flowers and a very characteristic smoky side.

The palate is magnificent, enveloping and intense. We feel a broad substance, very concentrated and powerful but yet it is sharp, it remains delicate on the dried flower with an excellent balance which carries the whole very, very high. Lots of emotions in this very complete wine with changing facets: the smoked bacon side takes the bottom when it rises in temperature, it is a real table champagne that emerges, vinous and consistent.

The final despite everything breaks the rhythm a little while we wait for an explosion, it remains a little short for my taste.

Not in perfect condition. Missing length and fruit, but still fresh. 92 (3753 views)
Tasted by AB16 on 11/29/2018 & rated 94 points: Blake tasting – drunk in magnum format. Nice toast and yeast. A- (3496 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 7/12/2018 & rated 94 points: From magnum. Softened and elegant with subtle spice. Burgundy-like. 94-95 (3968 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/23/2018 & rated 93 points: HDH auction at Spiaggia; 6/22/2018-6/23/2018 (Chicago, IL): Amber in colour. The nose shows a fair bit of bread, as well as a fairly good amount of fruit. Certainly, at this point, this shows a its age, and it's at the tail end of freshness for me. A bready, ripe, and rich profile, with a nice amount of acidity on the back end. It's not as linear and fresh as I'd like, but this is still a very good champagne. (A little sad it isn't as good as I remembered it being from seven years ago, though that taste came from a recent release from magnum.) (4109 views)
Tasted by psmith on 6/23/2018 & rated 96 points: I liked this more than most people. It's got an incredible level of detail and layering. Old, slightly funky mushroom notes and red cola and orange flavors. Ripe, weighty, and with a fairly subdued mousse at this stage. I could get lost in the nose here, and while it may not have quite the freshness of a '96 from a couple of months back (and certainly doesn't have P2/P3 freshness), I actually prefer this bottle and where it's at.  Tasted by dream on 5/22/2018 & rated 94 points: Good bubbles and intensity here with lovely flavors of red berries and exotic spices. Powerful and rich and showing good succulence on the finish which sports mature autumnal flavors. Really complex and really good. Seems perfect right now. (1875 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 5/23/2017 & rated 95 points: My second experience with this wind. Again extremely rich and dynamic, very long finish showing notes of naughtiness, Meleney and Berry, Long toasty least. (3512 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 11/24/2016 & rated 95 points: Freshest most alive bottle I've had. It popped when I opened it. Super young crisp with the heft of a rosé. It darkened as it opened and was enjoyable to the last drop. Wow! Stunning (3441 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 10/14/2016 & rated 94 points: Very fine but I have not come to love Rose's the way I love the other bottlings so I am not the best judge. my 94 may be a rose lovers 98 (3468 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 6/23/2016 & rated 93 points: I much preferred this to the 82 Oen but was not as much in love as others were (4099 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 5/21/2015 & rated 95 points: Consumed from magnum at Cut in Las Vegas. Color was borderline Amber with the slightest hue of rose. Nose was still suprisingly crisp and fresh, with toast, flora and rose and crisp stone. Effervescence was still strong indicating yourhfulness. The palate was mouthwatering, with nutty biscuit, berry, light oak and some yeasty toffee - definitely showing secondary notes as expected. I did not notice much strawberry as indicated in other notes. I can see this wine having time left, but no need to wait. The best champagne I can recall ever drinking. (4578 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 3/26/2015 & rated 93 points: From magnum. I've had better bottles. Balanced sweetness with notable strawberry. Acidic back palate. More straightforward and one-dimensional than other experiences, and the flavors seemed to fall flat. Still, a nice wine but now may be the time to drink it given this experience from a large format.  Tasted by matt5588 on 12/16/2014 & rated 94 points: What a great way to start a dinner with 6 friends...a magnum. touches of strawberries, raspberries with a scent of rose were the highlights. The mild effervescence also added to the enjoyment. Everyone at the table was very impressed with scores of 93 to 96 (4006 views)
Tasted by johnh1001 on 11/9/2014 & rated 96 points: Absolutely lovely. Brilliant sweetness, and subtle effervesce (4209 views)
Tasted by bongos on 5/10/2013: This bottle seemed a little tired. Nose of mascerated strawberries, white mushroom and cherries. Palate didn't live up to the nose and was a bit maderized. (5699 views)
Tasted by Lype on 5/8/2013 & rated 94 points: To me this one defines the concept of rose champagne. Strong and beautiful vintage which will last in geological terms. One of those moments which should not be soiled by analysing, just sit back and enjoy the unique ride. Heaven. (659 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/20/2012 & rated 94 points: 50th Birthday Celebration Dinner with Wine (Chez Schmidt - Chicago IL): From magnum. Starts with aromas of strawberry and raspberry with some rose and summer flowers. Very ripe and intense bt also lots of balance and textures onto long, elegant finish. (6507 views)
Tasted by tooch on 6/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Acker BYO - Chicago (Sepia - Chicago, IL): Very nice nose of cream, roses, and graham cracker. Loved the rosey, floral tones on the palate with great cut and finesse - add to that some serious depth. It's a great wine that came across young and almost shy. Think this has a lot of life ahead of it - maybe another 15 years before it begins to decline from its apogee. Great stuff. (5638 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/7/2012 & rated 94 points: Acker Merrall BYO (Sepia - Chicago IL): From magnum. Rose petal aromas with ripe strawberry and a very positive Pinot Noir character. Rich and opulent, but enough acidity, energy and minerality that it also comes across as weightless. Very clean, long, precise finish. Thanks, Rob! (5805 views)

Rockss and Fruit (12/7/2005)
(Dom Perignon Rose) Sappy red fruits on a steely, mineral spine of great detail. Long finish of great complexity. Just goes on and on. The copper color is always enchanting. Very youthful and needs lots of time.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
