Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.7 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Frank Murray III on 8/21/2010: Some waxiness and black licorice. Guessed it to be a white rhone but not viognier, as I didn't sense the typical permued aromatics of the grape. (1936 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 8/20/2010: Pre-Poker Blind and Not (Main Street Wine Cellar, Seal Beach, CA): Served blind. The nose gave the character of an old aged white that shouldn't have been held onto. Showing oxidation on the palate and seeming nearly done though still expressive. (2603 views)
Tasted by plasiter67 on 7/19/2008 & rated 87 points: Fruity...and hot. Short finish. Creamy vanilla loaded with peaches and melon. OK - but the heat really dimished the flavor in my view. (2152 views)
Tasted by ochaos on 2/15/2008 & rated 88 points: buttery in texture, not too sweet, hints of honeydew and vanilla with a bit of heat on the finish... good stuff.. (2366 views)
Tasted by OffNotes on 9/8/2007 & rated 89 points: Apricot out the wazoo. Delightful. (2391 views)
Tasted by notdilbert on 7/31/2007: Depending on how far you have to walk, this wine at 14.9%, is a starter and not a finisher. Tropical fruit and flowers ride the evaporating alcohol in full force. Rich like a quart of cream. Vanilla, honeydew, and mango ambushed by alcohol and acidiity sneaking in the back hanging out waiting to mug you. Hedonists heed the call, an up- front pleasure ride with a 14.9 kick. (1707 views)
Tasted by PatrickH on 3/9/2007 & rated 87 points: Had a bottle several months ago when first received shipment and it was good but too hot at the time. Opened up my 2nd bottle to go with a Burmese chicken soup/curry. The intense tropical nose and flavors paired well with the dish, but this viognier was not as citrusy and crisp as expected to cut some of the creaminess of the dish. (1587 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 3/3/2007 & rated 87 points: California Wines other than Napa or Sonoma (Farpointe Cellar): The nose on this wine was really fruity. I got peach, apricot, tropical fruit, pear, and apple, as well as some floral notes. The palate was crisp, and had most of the same fruit as the nose, but also had a mushroomy taste that threw it off. It did finish good, though. (2090 views)
Tasted by PatrickH on 10/14/2006 & rated 87 points: Apple-y nose. Citrus and apple flavors with a slightly creamy finish. Pronounced alcohol, may need some time to mellow it out. Paired nicely with goat cheese. (1655 views)

Viogner is wrong wine

This is nonsense.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
