Tasted by LIE-user on 4/12/2014 & rated 84 points: Difficult to do it justice. Somehow diluted. Is it meant to be like this or not? (3148 views)
Tasted by GrapesRGreat on 11/30/2012 & rated 88 points: Pretty good QPR on this after a few years of age. Still has a tannic grip, but some of the secondary aromatics typical of Bordeaux are starting to show through. Fruit flavor may die off before the tannins are fully resolved, but good for a few more years at least. (4206 views)
Tasted by akisthename on 12/18/2011 & rated 88 points: Opened this bottle and drank it with friends. found it quite pleasant but nothing to brag about. The wine had an earthy taste to it and was easy enough to drink. (4989 views)
Tasted by jcsf420 on 10/27/2011 & rated 86 points: After an hour the nose opens up revealing cherry, tobacco and even a slight gamey note. The tannins dominate the palate, has good acidity, and dark fruit which combine for a long finish. (5230 views)
Tasted by rjsmall on 2/2/2010: Dark, solid red brick colour; slight purple on edges. Blueberries on nose maybe even a meaty note with a slight tabacco. Big tannis with balancing acidity. Nice dryness with a touch of oak. Long length. Peppery, black fruits and leather. (6171 views)
Tasted by VHJV on 7/3/2009 & rated 88 points: Surprisingly good generic Bordeaux that has a nice nose of berries and tobacco. Mouthfeel is also nice and smooth and taste is in good balance. 2005 vintage is really showing its strenght in these lower-end offerings. Needs about an hour of air to develop its bouquet. (4316 views)
Tasted by Villon on 1/22/2009 & rated 87 points: Bien, mais sans grande personnalité. (3385 views)
Tasted by stercomm on 11/30/2008 & rated 86 points: Opened this for a dinner, none of the crew are much of a Bordeaux fan, all thought this was interesting. This bottle, getting a nose full of cherries and some tobacco. On the palate a very smooth, well intergated wine, fruit and tannins are weaved rtogether in an interesting way, acid is well balanced, not a bad Bordeaux for the price. (3438 views)
Tasted by cgrimes on 10/17/2008 & rated 84 points: OK early drinker. Needs some air. Not surprisingly MUCH better than the 2007 also tasted. (3357 views)
Tasted by stercomm on 9/30/2008 & rated 87 points: Nose is full of cherries and very nice fruit flavors with a hint of tobacco. On the palate a very smooth, well intergated wine, lots of fruit, tannins are subtle, acid is well balanced, a very nice Bordeaux for the price. (3387 views)
Tasted by rjsmall on 8/31/2008: Slightly closed and a bit of a damp fruit nose. Slightly harsh. Perhaps needed to breath longer. (3308 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 3/17/2008 & rated 87 points: Very beautiful nose of cherries and vanilla notes. Medium body, great structure and harmony. Great mouthfeel from very balanced soft tannins, clean fruit and well matching acidity levels. An outstanding Bordeaux for €5. A great wine for everyday food pairing. Wish I had bought more. Drink now. (3474 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
