Tasted by mkoss on 8/30/2017 & rated 89 points: Spicy stewed plums. V good. (997 views)
Tasted by mkoss on 11/22/2015 & rated 88 points: Fruit forward but not very complex or long finishing. Drink with unappreciative friends! (1126 views)
Tasted by champussi on 10/14/2015 & rated 92 points: Toll! Sehr lecker!! (1182 views)
Tasted by mkoss on 9/9/2015 & rated 89 points: Did not last until the second evening, but the first evening was wonderful. If you have any of this vintage it should probably be opened soon. Drink now! (1175 views)
Tasted by chittybang on 1/4/2015 flawed bottle: Past it's date (1398 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 5/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Medium weight on the palate with dusty raisin flavors. Good balance and length with pleasant finish. (1542 views)
Tasted by Meembo on 8/1/2010 & rated 85 points: This wine is an absolute monster, and kept changing throughout the night. At times, got some interesting earthy notes along with super-dark plum, but it seemed a lot of the fruit was still hiding. I decanted about two hours, and I would seriously consider holding any bottles. (1992 views)
Tasted by Impulse on 5/17/2010 & rated 93 points: This was drinking beautifully... Fresh and intense, with mature fruit and layers of complexity on the nose. Mouth was very silky and with longer than average length. Too bad this was my last 2004. (2140 views)
Tasted by Darkhorn on 5/9/2010 & rated 91 points: Wow this is something. Think it would have benefited from a long decant, but even with out it this is a very nice "big" wine.. inky black, dark fruits prunes/plums, excellent balance beginning to end, with black teas at finish. This could have easily rested for another 5-10 year’s (2163 views)
Tasted by djump on 5/2/2010 & rated 92 points: Had this bottle with a pasta dish with fresh grilled vegatables oil and garlic. a perfect compliment . very smoth (2044 views)
Tasted by ekenneth on 4/25/2010 & rated 88 points: Good fruit and structure, short finish. (883 views)
Tasted by Patrick on 2/7/2010 & rated 90 points: Big wine. Would not have been out of place in a Barossa tasting. Opaque black red; big black fruit nose with a touch of heat showing. Not bad at the discounted price. (1746 views)
Tasted by Vinacull on 8/29/2009 & rated 90 points: {ST} Dark cherry red with black tones, medium-full body. An excellent dense nose of considerable depth, with dark cherries, soy sauce, a smoky meatiness like maple beef jerky, and earth. On the palate deep rich black cherries, black currant, some cacao, herbs and graphite. Strong presence through an almost floral profile. Medium-low acid and significant tannins that could use a little softening, but don't get in the way too much. An extended finish of black stone fruits, pepper and earth. Well made and highly enjoyable. I'm just not sure I would step up to the counter for the 30 tag. (1921 views)
Tasted by wine a lot on 8/16/2009 & rated 95 points: Beautiful nose, smooth, structured, bold (2083 views)
Tasted by JMPVermont on 12/3/2008 & rated 92 points: Ditto on the lush nose and rush of black cherry. Tannins could smooth a little, although they did not get in the way of a very enjoyable bottle. (2267 views)
Tasted by robw on 10/13/2008 & rated 92 points: amazing nose. lots of cherry. wonderful wine (2424 views)
Tasted by nubbin on 11/22/2007 & rated 90 points: Love the herbs! Black cherry & cassis. Full bodied and purple teeth! Kicks butt! Nice big tannis but not too agressive. Can still smell it! (D 7, F 6; Cent, ES) (2514 views)

Domaine du Clos des Fées

Producer website

The vines were planted with pickaxes, barely touching the layers of parent-limestone, in pockets of pure clay, zigzagging along impressive green oak trees.

The stones were taken out of the vineyards one by one, by hand or pulled by a horse, then patiently and skilfully stacked by generations of wine growers from another era. They worked hard and long hours.

The conditions were so difficult that workers hired to plant the first vines in parts of the vineyard simply gave up. The elders in the village nicknamed the location "little Siberia" as a result.

What exactly does the word «Clos des Fées» ?
In French, a «Clos» is a small parcel of vines surrounded by walls. A Fée is a «mythical being, in general a woman, with magical powers» which she uses with the help of a magic wand. Le Clos des Fees is a vineyard where the fairies would have lived, if they existed. The place is very isolated, beautiful, wild, very romantic which inspired us for the name.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
