Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by brokenstones on 7/13/2013 & rated 89 points: We may have held this bottle just a tad too long, though it is still opening up so we may be surprised yet. When it was young it was heavy with dark purple fruit, and it has aged well It has become less robust and more sophisticated.
The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Fig, Black currant (cassis), and White Pepper, though as it opens the fruit dissipates. It tastes like and Black currant, slightly tart, with a slight note of pencil lead. The body is Medium/Full. (1696 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 12/1/2011: Zin and Burgers (Slater's 50/50, Anaheim, CA): Complex nose. Very tart and not showing much fruit on the palate. Possibly not stored all that well or these just need to be drank up. (2978 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 6/19/2008 & rated 91 points: zins and BBQ(with one outsider) (Smoque BBQ, chicago): nose: big loaded nose of white pepper, dark belgian chocolate, anise, and black cherries

taste: great feel that is more velvety with large amounts of white pepper, dark belgian chocolate, black cherries, and asian spice tones

overall: a really wonderful and full wine. Time has tamed it a bit and it has taken on some very interesting characteristics. a big and Bold white pepper+black cherry attack that finishes off with a dark belgian chocolate finish (3203 views)
Tasted by Paul Lin on 3/24/2007 & rated 90 points: The Wines of Thomas Rivers Brown (Orange County, CA): Rich notes of raspberry chocolate truffles and caramel. This has aged well. (6073 views)
Tasted by Eric on 7/30/2004: My trip to Napa, Part 3: Tasting at Outpost and dinner at Terra (Napa Valley, California, USA): An initially strong note of VA blows off to show a spicy, balanced palate featuring red fruit. Nice Zin, somewhat understated. (5206 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
