Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.3 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 89 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Bromie on 7/11/2022 & rated 90 points: Under screw cap. I’d expected this to be dead as a door nail however it was surprisingly drinkable - amber coloured, a little sherries on the nose but still recognisable as a NZ Sauvignon on the palate. Enjoyable even if a curiosity. (348 views)
Tasted by avp on 4/6/2014: Some currant character but also richer tropical-veering notes of oranges and bananas. Dairy notes, leafy lift and lime blossoms.
Dry, full bodied and zesty palate with gooseberry to banana fruit and a bitter pomelo bite. Minerally from mid-palate on. Long finish.
Hanging in there just fine. Nicely aged and balanced expression. Thumbs up! (4280 views)
Tasted by Bromie on 10/7/2012 & rated 84 points: I knew this would be past its be sty but it was surprisingly interesting. Still some acidity and a good nose - not oxidised. I would still say drink up if you have any left (5191 views)
Tasted by ted b on 6/16/2012: Pronounced yellow, beginning to take on notes of asparagus, little acidity left. Well past its prime, but one of those that slipped into the depths of the cellar and was forgotten. (5314 views)
Tasted by Alvinho on 11/7/2011 & rated 85 points: Ready. Little acidity in excess but works fine with food. (6199 views)
Tasted by michelvl on 7/5/2010 & rated 89 points: Consistent with my previous reviews. (6569 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 11/7/2009: Bruce Cass Class #2 (Fort Mason, San Francisco): Deep yellow-green. Nose is very vegetal and green with cooked bell pepper. Lots of acid, but still smooth so good balance. Flavor is full of bell peppers, very round, 15-20 second finish. Interesting. (4935 views)
Tasted by RusNewton on 2/3/2009 & rated 90 points: Much better than the last bottle (3676 views)
Tasted by Griffin on 1/25/2009: (13.5% vol)
No formal notes. I found this to be a very lovely and very pleasing wine. I have to say that I enjoyed the sweetness on the nose. I am a big fan of wines from Loire and although the price-to-value ratio is a bit questionable I would buy this again. (3663 views)
Tasted by nealec on 1/6/2009: Too late! Unfortunately the best has long since gone. Verging on the unpleasant to drink, more like a bad over oaked chardonnay. (3678 views)
Tasted by GraemeBell on 10/24/2008: Definitely drink up. Flabby and wet wool starting to show through. Still ok but nothing like it was. (3643 views)
Tasted by ctwomey on 5/25/2008 flawed bottle: Strong vegetal note and TCA affected :-( (4123 views)
Tasted by ctwomey on 5/5/2008 & rated 86 points: Consistent tasting notes with previous bottle (4184 views)
Tasted by ctwomey on 4/19/2008 & rated 86 points: Consistent tasting notes with previous bottles, however the vegetal note is much less pronounced. (4323 views)
Tasted by markellen.foodies@gmail.com on 3/30/2008 & rated 90 points: 90 to my taste but probably not as high for others. Unusual herbal, grassy quality that paired well w Ellen's Goat Cheese Souffle's. Unlike any Cloudy Bay, I've had over the last 10 plus years. (6404 views)
Tasted by ctwomey on 3/23/2008 & rated 85 points: Dinner in seanchara with Joe and Betty (seanchara): I dont like the vegetal note. I think we might keep the rest for cooking. Disappointing particularly as the 2005 is so good. (4752 views)
Tasted by ctwomey on 3/1/2008 & rated 84 points: Dinner at Kev & Vals (Kilmacoo House): The vegetal note is quite distracting. There is fruit and acidity which were fine, but the overall experience was that the vegetal note over powered the fruit. Drink up. The 2005 on the same evening was so much better. (4865 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 2/29/2008: Very pale greeny white, almost colourless. Elegant nose of ripe gooseberry. Mineral and gooseberry on entry, very subtle and elegant. Nice minerality and good length with just the faintest touch of slightly honeyed sweetness somewhere in the middle. This sits somewhere between a Mentelou-Salon and a typical NZ SB. Zing, minerality and tempered gooseberry without any of the ripe melon flavours that can get in the way of over-ripe new world examples. My only bottle of this, so I don't know whether it is the vintage or the extra couple of years of bottle aging, but this is very good. CB may be over-hyper and over-priced for what it is, but none-the-less this example is very classy and very drinkable. Enjoyed as an aperitif, but would no-doubt be good with scallops etc. Lovely ***1/2 (4475 views)
Tasted by Retil on 11/16/2007: still ok not as much fruit and the nose was limited. (4910 views)
Tasted by Ryan D on 10/12/2007: A pleasant, grassy wine that became increasingly fruity as it warmed. (4846 views)
Tasted by Nedster919 on 6/21/2007: Fruit still evident on the palette. Has not started to degrade at all. (5297 views)
Tasted by cousteau on 6/7/2007 & rated 89 points: Consistent with the last note, still showing great. (5696 views)
Tasted by TashNYC on 4/30/2007 & rated 89 points: Ok, but fading a little. Not as good as it was at the winery in New Zealand, in Dec 2004. Best with food, including goat's cheese brie, octopus with garlic sauce and tomato canape with swordfish. Our last bottle: nice but not worth the premium (5565 views)
Tasted by michelvl on 4/30/2007 & rated 90 points: consistent with previous review (5518 views)
Tasted by RomanKJ on 4/16/2007 & rated 89 points: decent- not over the hill, not worth the premium. (5615 views)
