Tasted by bzukaitis on 7/4/2014: Another bad cork. Another great bottle. (1096 views)
Tasted by bzukaitis on 4/4/2014: Blew another cork. Ran up all sides of cork. No affect on the wine. Turning my friends into Syrah lovers one bottle at a time (1011 views)
Tasted by bzukaitis on 11/24/2013 & rated 91 points: Wow. I was very worried when the cork blew up into a thousand pieces, but no issues with this wine. Just bought 2 of these along with 2 '07 Sequel Syrah's and 2 '08 Like Father Like Son Syrah/Petit Syrah's at MDL. Dark fruit, earthy. Beautiful. I have been very happy with Novy Syrah's. (1077 views)
Tasted by KVM on 11/18/2012 & rated 90 points: Very dark red, med red edge. Nose has blackberries and spice. Dark flavours, powerful, alcohol and well balanced, otherwise. (1430 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 2/14/2010 & rated 90 points: Lots of big berry, currant and some pepper with a nice finish (1908 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 9/10/2009 & rated 85 points: Nothing special. (1463 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 5/29/2009 & rated 85 points: Taste from Just Grapes.
One dimensional spicy fruit.
Finish shows some imbalance with lots of heat. Pass.
Dissapointed. Usually Novy shows well. Didn't have the balance here. (1466 views)
Tasted by jivey on 3/12/2009 & rated 89 points: Meat juice, dark fruits with some freshness, pepper and black cherry on the finish. (1566 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 3/11/2009 & rated 86 points: i wrote, "displays a universality that isn't offensive." whatever the hell THAT means. some blue fruit. (1352 views)
Tasted by tonyvelebil on 12/20/2008 & rated 91 points: Cracked this last night to have a glass while watching The Dark Knight. Another taste today to get a good sense of where this is on day 2. This is a big rich wine but doesn't go over the top. In fact, it's the biggest fruited Bennett Valley Syrah I've had. Nose is rich dark cocoa dusted blackberries/blueberries with a hint of smoke. The palate is full bodied, rich and unctuous. Notes of ripe blackberries, licorice, dark chocolate, pepper and a little bit of asphalt. Chewy finish. Just as good on day 2 as day 1 if not a little better. No hurry to drink these unless you really like the richly textured fruit. Enjoy! (1278 views)

Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/25/2008 & rated 91 points: Family Winemakers San Francisco; 8/24/2008-8/25/2008 (Fort Mason, San Francisco): Black fruit nose; tasty black fruit and charcoal palate; medium finish 91+ pts. (2520 views)
Tasted by glaze3 on 7/25/2008: Wow what a funky nose, this shows a little blueberry, but is dominated by a meaty, gamy, asphalt, licorice profile. I like this alot. Not for fans of big fruity wines, but if you like super concentrated smoky meat and earth driven syrahs this will be right up your alley. I don't know if it is a trait of this vineyard, but the 05 grenache from here had the same gamy smokiness. (1350 views)
Tasted by mmurry on 2/18/2008 & rated 90 points: I decanted this wine about 4 hours. This wine's nose was loaded with gaminess upfront that was followed by blueberry and raspberry. It finished with a hint of pepper. The palate was juicy and had raspberry and blueberry. It finished with a peppered meat flavor. (1529 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 5/1/2007: I love this vineyard, both made by Adam, as well as Mike Officer. This version by Adam shows a little funk on the nose, along with blueberry, red raspberry, and what my notes say "cooked sausage". My pal Chris who tasted this with us called the fruit "exotic" and there is terrific concentration underneath everything. Terrific and another easy buy. (1684 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
