Tasted by cork'd on 3/1/2015 & rated 91 points: Decanted 2 hours before the fruit started to show and sipped on it over a 6 hr period. Surprised to still have as much leafiness and a hint of green that gave way to dark stewed fruit. Still a hint of plumb freshness. Very enjoyable but most likely will not benefit from much more cellaring. Will drink my final this year. (545 views)
Tasted by kcsteve on 1/28/2015 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. It opened up over the next hour. Not as much funk on nose as bottle in 2013. Blackberries, blueberries, spice, earth, coffee. Inky. Seemed very balanced. (610 views)
Tasted by John O' on 12/28/2014: Decanted 1.25 hours, then back in bottle. I really wanted to love this wine. It was only OK. (712 views)
Tasted by ToddR911 on 12/27/2014 & rated 90 points: Deep purple in color, bold blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon with fleshy taste, dense blackberry, and some pepper on a nice, lasting finish. (688 views)
Tasted by klezman on 10/22/2014: Right out of the gate this is a bottle of earthy, leafy goodness. Great balance and extract. Dark red fruit is almost imperceptible but is there. The earth is dominant on both the nose and palate, which is just great. Tannins are mostly but not entirely resolved. I can see why people rave about this wine. (1346 views)
Tasted by aquaman on 8/22/2014 & rated 95 points: Decante for 3 hours . Pair it with rack of lamb with herb crust n ramsey sauce... Pair well. Still have a hit of tannie left but no barn yard smell .
Better then 3 years ago (1083 views)
Tasted by stevenjstein on 8/21/2014 & rated 88 points: Had a fair bit of funk on opening, but that blew off. Plenty of fruit. (947 views)
Tasted by pozenra on 1/3/2014 & rated 88 points: Beautiful color from the syrah. Pretty earthy aromas. Berry, coffee, some smoke. (1900 views)
Tasted by kcsteve on 12/27/2013 & rated 90 points: Very surprised at the amount of funk upon opening; reminded me of a Bordeaux. Recommend decanting. It was very closed for at least an hour. Blackberries, spice, some funk, and a bit of petrol. Inky. Interesting wine to say the least. Consumed with an '07 Turnbull Cabernet. It was a split decision from the group on which was the best. (1819 views)
Tasted by ADiamond on 7/7/2013 & rated 91 points: For the price an exceptional wine. Blackberry with a hint coffee. It opened up nicely throughout dinner. Oak was perfectly integrated into the wine. But it is time to start drinking this up and there is probably 3-3 years left. (2418 views)
Tasted by wren460 on 6/13/2013 & rated 91 points: Please don´t judge this wine until 30 minutes after opened. Coffee, dark fruit...very earthy. Interesting wine. Not incredibly delicious, but very "nerdy" kind of wine. The wine might be close to it´s life, maybe 3 more years and thats it! I liked the wine, it is interesting and unique in many ways. I like the QPR. (2318 views)
Tasted by vinniemontoni on 6/9/2013 & rated 91 points: Not great notes but it was excellent. Could really taste the spicy nature of the syrah combined withthe backbone of Cabernet. Lengthy finish. Unfortunately my last bottle. (2312 views)
Tasted by davemj on 5/3/2013 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby red, probably Syrah component offering opaqueness. Great nose, dry oak cinder box, pepper, coffee, dark berries. Full bodied mid-palate, good acidity and firm but moderating tannins on the finish. A fine wine with 3-5 years, easy, of time. (1827 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 3/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Unremarkable medium red. Abslutely delicious blackberry nose. Strong notes of blackberries laced with coffee, which gets progressively better and stronger into the tasty finish. The oak integrates perfectly into this wine. This is MUCH better than the last few bottles of this I tasted, which I distinctly remember as dissapointing. (1972 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 3/9/2013: 90 minute decant. Very similar noes to September. (1477 views)
Tasted by RDHudak on 2/27/2013 & rated 87 points: Muted nose at first followed by funk, earth and some spice. Palate of funky Syrah, fading dark fruit and more earth. Medium finish with balanced plus acidity and tannins. This just seemed a bit disjointed, awkward and clumsy from start to finish. In its defense, it ay have needed a bit more of a decant than I gave it. (1509 views)
Tasted by hutch on 2/18/2013 & rated 89 points: Still going strong. Quite a bit of funk upon first opening. Not in a bad way, unless you're not into that sort of thing. Well structured, not over the top in any way. After some time, the funk left. Nice dark fruit. Enjoyable wine. (2394 views)
Tasted by brooksconsulting on 2/10/2013 & rated 90 points: Drinking well now, but losing a bit of its fruit. I wouldn't wait forever. (1386 views)
Tasted by petermpls on 1/20/2013 & rated 86 points: My notes are similar to JK2. Quite a bit of wood and cedar - reticent when it comes to fruit. I remember other vintages being a little more fruit-forward. I will open another bottle soon and see if this is a product of bottle variation. (1398 views)
Tasted by AMM3RD on 1/6/2013 & rated 92 points: This was pretty closed for the first 20ish mins, then opened very nicely. Dark fruits and a unique flavor profile similar to the Ramey Claret, also a Cabernet/Syrah blend. This really embraces the spicy syrah and the weight and depth of the Cab. Perfect with steak (tonight) and/or other both flavored foods. Very nice acidity for a medium/full bodied wine. This was my last bottle, wishing Havens was still around. Give it some air and drink over the next 3-5 years. If you miss Havens check-out Bedrock wines, delicious...AM (1429 views)
Tasted by Bumbanian on 12/7/2012 & rated 90 points: This continues to be an intriguing wine, with lots of funk on the nose, barnyard, anis, and deep dark fruits. I am not as gaga as I was about it last time but this makes a really interesting beverage and conversation piece. (1386 views)
Tasted by Zingrrl on 11/17/2012 & rated 85 points: Dark cherry vanilla nose. Bright cherry, almost too bright on the palette with a bit of rare meat. Thin mid-palette. Good finish with structure. Might need a bit more time, or perhaps I should have aired longer. This was a 375. (1448 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/20/2012 & rated 91 points: Dark purple red color. Decanted for 1 hour and drank 2+ glasses over 2 hours. I agree that this comes off heavily syrah based on both the palate and the nose. The nose has a heavy dose of meat and tar right off the bat, very earthy, black fruits, spice. The palate, while full of dark fruits with black cherry, blackberry liqueur, and plum, seems a bit thin in the middle. In addition, the palate, as well as the nose, is quite complex, adding meat, spice, licorice, dusty earth, somewhat sharp edged tannins, and a bold peppery finish. At times the alcohol would show, but not obtrusively. Without some of the sharper edges this would have been considerably better. This was not as good as a bottle a couple years ago. My inclination is to not sit on this and drink up. 90-91pts. (1671 views)
Tasted by stevenjstein on 10/9/2012 & rated 88 points: Had a lot of brett funk on first opening, but that started to blow off with time. The underlying flavors definitely seemed more savory and Syrah-driven than Cab. Didn't get a chance to finish it the first night, but by the second it didn't have much going on. I have a couple more bottles so I'll try to decant them and give them a fairer chance. (1661 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 9/15/2012 & rated 91 points: Decanted for two hours and drank over the next 90 minutes. This really needed the air which revealed a palate of tobacco, meat and a little pepper with the fruit emerging towards the end. (1652 views)

Havens Wine Cellars

Producer website

The original Havens winery was liquidated in 2009. Many of the wine assets were sold with some being released by Cameron Hughes. In 2012, the physical winery itself was acquired and the brand revived.

Red Blend

Red Blend is used for any combination of red grapes that does not fit into CellarTracker's preset blends (Red Bordeaux Blend, etc). Actual blend composition for a given wine should be entered under the per wine or per wine vintage wiki articles.

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
