Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 64 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ubercuvee on 6/6/2015: Still quality and still missing some complexity to rival the best CNDPs. Personally I'd hold these to see if that comes with more cellar time, but if you're a skeptic of the house/style, drink em now (346 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 4/23/2015 & rated 89 points: A few years in the old has been good to this wine. (515 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 4/5/2015 & rated 92 points: Very fruit forward with big notes of cherry jolly rancher and boysenberry. Fun wine! (540 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 2/21/2015 & rated 92 points: Lots going on here. Hits hard. Intensity, complexity, appropriate amplitude. (738 views)
Tasted by BillyRayValentine on 12/25/2014 & rated 93 points: Drinking extremely well tonight. Blueberries, blackberries, anise, eucalyptus and pine, still enough acid to balance. Great finish to the Christmas lineup. (868 views)
Tasted by eporres on 11/12/2014 & rated 92 points: All that has been said has been said about this wine in the reviews below. (391 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 9/13/2014 & rated 92 points: This wine offers so much ... blueberry, fresh forrest, beautifully done oak ... but it's one fault is its stinging attack. (1365 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 9/7/2014 & rated 93 points: Surprisingly good. Nuanced and balanced. I expected this wine to be bigger than it was. Felt more old world vs new. Very pleasant flavors - good finish. (1225 views)
Tasted by Bluffan on 8/30/2014 & rated 93 points: A great example of what's unique about Australian wine. Grenache is the most widely planted grape in the world, yet this is as distinct as it is sublime when grown in the red earthen outback. Strong, complex berry flavors, but more nuanced than its Kangarilla and Blewitt Springs cousins, this this is rich without fat, luscious but not sweet; this is a great wine. (1119 views)
Tasted by dkhale4 on 4/12/2014 & rated 94 points: This was simply outstanding. The blueberries and cranberries absolute leaped out of the glass, reminding me that a wine can be phenomenal and not have to carry the weight of cabernet, merlot, syrah, or a blend of the aforementioned. Not only was the wine very food friendly, it was an absolute joy to simply sip on it all alone. Well balanced, great mouth feel, and a finish that was long and persistent all night long. (1793 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 3/17/2014 & rated 91 points: PnP w/10 min decant. Clear, deep purple/red color. Of of my fav's. This bottle drank a bit more extracted than the last one. Nothing off. $50 (1844 views)
Tasted by buffyst on 3/9/2014: The '05 Clarendon Hills Old Vines Romas is a dense, red-purple, full-bodied celebration of all things vinous. On opening, the wine displayed perhaps the purest expression of blackberry aromas I've ever encountered; I just wanted to inhale it forever. The integrated palate is an amalgam of blackberry, cherry, and raspberry, with background notes of cardamom, truffle and vanilla -- all exquisitely balanced. The mid-palate carries a youthful stream of refreshing acidity that leads to a long, tantalizing finish. 14.5% abv. Although not inexpensive, this wine is extraordinary, and worthy of enjoyment for many years to come. (1376 views)
Tasted by svpandae on 2/2/2014 & rated 91 points: Rich, structured, balanced. Strong fruit, but not overdone. Alcohol tame. An excellent bottle. (1360 views)
Tasted by BillyRayValentine on 2/2/2014 & rated 90 points: Not as impressive as prior bottles. Bottle did not seem off, just wasn't as into it tonight. Still very good. (1438 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 1/30/2014: Blind Night (Kevin): Not my thing. Tons of eucalyptus and alcohol. (1181 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 11/4/2013 & rated 94 points: PnP w/1 hour decant, between cellar and room temp. Clear, deep red/purple. Still my favorite Assie & CH wine and closest to Penfolds "Grange" in quality at a fraction of the price. Exceptional, intense and proper Grenache nose. Wonderfully balanced/intregated, rich, not over ripe, complex, long finish. A wonderful wine drinking perfectly right now. Nothing off. $55. (1354 views)
Tasted by sababa1022 on 10/21/2013 & rated 95 points: Spectacular bottle of wine. If you've got some, be thankful. (1325 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 9/29/2013 & rated 86 points: Clarendon Hill's $90 retail price for this wine is absolutely asinine. I got the K&L deal for $35 and still feel it's over priced. The fact of the mater is there are plenty of Grenache out of California, Spain, and (yes even) France that kills this wine at $40 much less $90. On the nose it beautiful bright summer red fruits and touch of mossy forest floor. In the mouth is where it falls apart... it starts with decent tart cherries then immediately jumps into an alkaline like soapy profile then finishes with hot hot alcohol. If I paid north of $60 for this wine at a restaurant I'd send it right back. (1323 views)
Tasted by pauljr1121 on 9/25/2013 & rated 94 points: Outstanding Romas. Tight after 30 minutes of decanting but really rich red berries and blackberries take over. The finish lingers much longer than one would anticipate for a wine under $50 bucks. As the night went on it picked up some oak, forest floor and truffle... almost Burgundian. Excellent! (1378 views)
Tasted by Silveradoup on 8/18/2013 & rated 95 points: Amazing grenache! (1593 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 8/3/2013 & rated 93 points: This was the campfire champ, like a berry dessert in the glass but balanced with equaling matching tannins and a finish that leaves you wanting more. Amazing QPR! (1149 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 7/28/2013 & rated 94 points: Densely woven and beautiful. Really settling into itself. Would have been better to decant. (1236 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 7/26/2013 & rated 70 points: OAK! some mint. no good.

oh and we did decant it 3-4 hours (1085 views)
Tasted by Dental Jay on 7/13/2013: Fortunately K and L were willing to replace the first bottle that was oxidized. The second bottle was fine, but honestly I didn't get to enjoy it as it was opened with a group and I got a scant glass and a half without much decanting etc. What I tasted was unimpressive, and I'm disappointed I don't get the same experience as others. (1133 views)
Tasted by urban_dk on 7/1/2013 & rated 92 points: Grabbed the K&L deal as well. No issues with the first bottle. Ripe, opulent, loaded with cherry/blackberry pie scents and a hint of forest floor. The cherry/blackberry flavors explode on the palate, with a touch of acidity to round it out. Great on the first night, better on the second, with a few savory notes emerging. Could develop some interesting secondary characteristics over time (if you can wait). (1018 views)
