Tasted by jlgnml on 11/7/2023 & rated 95 points: OK. Score is high but we love Ramey especially older vintages. Does not need a decant. Pronounced lemon, good acidity, sharp, good long finish. Still drinking after an hour. Drink or even hold for <5 years. (177 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/28/2023 & rated 90 points: On the riper side for Chardonnay fruit profile for my sensitive temperament, but managed enough structure even at this age to retain its balance. Very good now, good depth and weight. (1200 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 5/28/2023 & rated 95 points: Golden color, exceptional nose, deep palate feel and only got better (needs an hour decant), long finish, truly a delight to drink. (320 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 2/21/2023 & rated 95 points: Getting bette with each btl. Decanted for 20 min. (406 views)

Tasted by jlgnml on 10/22/2022 & rated 93 points: Very mature. Good color, really smooth once it opened in the glass. Drink. (327 views)

Tasted by jlgnml on 11/22/2021 & rated 92 points: Clear color, good nose and flavor. Not a lot of wow but for its age, I like it. Drink soon. (216 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 7/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Splash decant for 45 min. Really good on the palate with a good finish. Very nice indeed. Drink (529 views)

Tasted by jlgnml on 3/5/2021 & rated 93 points: Decanted in the am for 30 min and then served later that night. The flavor profile improved in the glass for a very enjoyable drink. Drink. (269 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 1/3/2021 & rated 92 points: Great color for its age. Quick decant. Shut down, needs time in the glass. Good flavor. Drink. (286 views)
Tasted by essconsults on 4/19/2019 & rated 93 points: My fifth bottle of this over the past 7 years, and possibly the best. Far superior to the last two. The cork was totally stuck and came out in pieces. But the wine is in perfect condition. Honeysuckle and Meyer lemon but also some beautiful floral overtones. Perfect acidity. 2005 California high end Chards are still amazing. This puts a lot of WBs to shame. (634 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/20/2018: 19 - 20 months in barrel. And at this time 65% new. If I got that right. New vintages are at 25%. Doesn’t smell tired at all. The 2007 is much more butter scotch. Man is that good notes David. Super fresh and probably has five more year. The 2007 not the case. (738 views)
Tasted by jsebiri on 1/1/2017: Excellent , well aged wine (1119 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 2/27/2015 & rated 92 points: Citrus, clean color, good fragrance, lovely for its age. (1911 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 7/30/2014 & rated 92 points: smooth and complex white stone fruit, nut and well integrated oak; just enough acidity; restores my faith in holding onto a california chardonnay. (2250 views)
Tasted by SLOPPYdeCHAO on 7/5/2014 & rated 92 points: Silky, full bodied, with pear and apple flavors; nice finish. (2210 views)
Tasted by fdub on 4/16/2014 & rated 93 points: Still holding with great freshness but nice aged notes. Mouth filling wine but has great acid to back it up. (2150 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 1/5/2014: Love the flavor and the Ritchie is drinking at its best now. (1757 views)
Tasted by fbbjim on 11/12/2013 & rated 93 points: Still crisp, well integrated. Went great with crab cakes. Wish i had more. (1198 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 11/11/2013 & rated 93 points: Crisp, clean color, good nose. Great length, got better in the glass, will last. (943 views)
Tasted by cookiefiend on 7/19/2013: Well.
Following a 2002 Boillot Meursault, this was like an adorable, tow-head blond toddler covered in vanilla ice cream with a pineapple topping thrown in for good measure. You are naturally charmed and slightly alarmed that sticky fingers are about to ruin your silk pants, but you keep your head and smile because - damn - is that kid cute. I liked the Ramey in all it's sticky, vanilla richness, but... it certainly let the Boillot show it's French finesse and beauty. (1237 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 8/18/2011: Pretty wine, holding on but perhaps not showing its best six years in. Full yellow color. Pretty nose of baked apple, fig, and minerals. In the mouth, not as concentrated as the Aubert but with more elegant balance. The fruit is pretty but there is a hole in the mid-palate. Solid acidity and finish. B+ (2502 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

Ritchie Vineyard

Ritchie Vineyard is legendary in Russian River Valley, widely regarded as one of the best Chardonnay sites in all of California. The vineyard was first planted in 1972 to a handful of heritage selections, including Old Wente, and sits on a rolling northwest facing hillside in the heart of Russian River Valley, near the intersection of Trenton-Healdsburg and Eastside roads. The unique soil profile, comprised of Goldridge series sandy loam and a layer of volcanic ash deposits, creates wines with great intensity, which exude a rare purity and sense of place. For more than forty years, Kent Ritchie has farmed this vineyard with passion, precision and a loving touch. He pays personal attention to the wishes of each winemaker working with his grapes because, like the best growers in the area, he understands that the relationship is as important as the quality of the finished product that bears his name.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
