Tasted by suburbanfrog on 9/9/2012 & rated 93 points: Incredible Zinfandel! Great fruit balanced by firm tannins. Just a pleasure to drink. A wine to savor with each sip. (1145 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 9/27/2011 & rated 91 points: Purple in color. This is ageing just fine. The nose has a dusty quality reminiscent of an older Ridge (kind of a Bordeaux like quality as well). Also black cherries. On the palate, it drinks much younger. Plenty of black cherry fruit with a bit of a woody (but not oak) quality. Complex and showing like it will continue to age just fine. These vines are almost 100 years old and this Zin can age. Very different than it was on release. (1582 views)
Tasted by treaganjr on 10/17/2010 & rated 90 points: Full bodied and lots of zin flavors. (1574 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 10/8/2010 & rated 91 points: This is still such a baby. This is a Zin that demands some time. An interesting juxtaposition drinking this and reading the Terry Thiese book. This is a big wine, and the alcohol is noticeable. I am not sure how well it would go with food, but it makes a great sit by the fire and read a book wine. It has wonderful depth (probably due to the 100 year old vines). Raspberry, bramble and some black licorice notes are still primary. Velvety texture. And certainly delicious. No hurry to drink these though. (1819 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 3/16/2010 & rated 87 points: Notes from day 2. Dark purple in color. Nose of blue fruit, cassis, vanilla. Palate of blueberry, blackberry, leather, white pepper, alc. The finish is above average in length, but this lost a ton between day 1 and day 2 and its too hot. Drink up. 50+5+11+15+6 (1668 views)
Tasted by WinstonWolfe on 2/21/2010 & rated 87 points: SWEET!!! (1383 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 5/2/2009 & rated 93 points: Notes from day 2. Dark purple color and very full bodied. On the nose I get boysenberry, cassis, vanilla, sage, and a little cinnamin spice coming in the longer this was open. On the palate major boysenberry, chambourd, a little leather, and white pepper on the tail probably from the 15.6 alc.. The finish lasts a very long time. Great palate coating fruit on this wine and a finish that just will not quit. Not for the old world crowd. Drink or hold for 1 to 2 years. 50+5+13+18+7 (1447 views)
Tasted by KPB on 4/26/2009 & rated 91 points: Drink this up if you own it... (1560 views)
Tasted by hoos90 on 1/30/2009 & rated 89 points: A fruit bomb. Flavors might become more refined with a few more years. (1408 views)
Tasted by kanab ram on 1/22/2009: Double decanted for 3 hours. Muted nose but explodes on the palate with bright red fruit continuing to a lengthy finish. One of Peter's best zins IMO and the statement on the label ("..Not for the faint of heart.") was right on point. (1447 views)
Tasted by KPB on 12/28/2008 & rated 95 points: Even better than when I tried it in 2007. (1640 views)
Tasted by Clarkmeister on 10/21/2008 & rated 88 points: Super jammy and a little short on the end, but clearly needs some more cellar time. (1520 views)
Tasted by Sundesertcactus on 9/26/2008 & rated 95 points: Excellent as always (1653 views)
Tasted by esb on 8/1/2008 & rated 89 points: Blueberry and blackberry aroma. Fruit integrating and a little dumb. Soft, smooth texture in the mouth. Good, solid Zin from The Pines Vineyard. Now or hold short term. (1587 views)
Tasted by pizzler on 7/5/2008 & rated 92 points: The tasting of this wine got off to a poor start. It's the first time I've run into a plastic stopper on a wine bottle. The stopper top was covered with a sticker that masked it was a stopper. The plastic cap was difficult to peel away to expose enough of the stopper to pop it, so I ended up with a paper cut (plastic cut?) on a finger. The wine wasn't much better. It had a funky odor that overpowered the fruit when we tasted the wine. It didn't improve even after several hours of airing in the glass. I corked the bottle and put it away for a day. What a difference! The funky odor in the nose and the wine had vanished and a tight, balanced, serious Zin showed up. It reminded me of the odd year Lytton Springs zins from the 70's and 80's that were balanced wines built for the long haul, in contrast to the even year LS zins that were massive fruit monsters. I'd give this wine a higher rating if I based the rating only on the second day of tasting. (1685 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 6/26/2008 & rated 91 points: Notes from a tasting of around 10 wines so not as extensive. This bottle did not rock my world like the last one, but this was not decanted for 2 hours as was the other bottle. Nose of black fruit, mostly ripe blackberry. On the palate I got lots of blueberry and dark dark blackberry liqour, and it had a nice 45 second finish. The only downside was the heat that was evident on the tail end and I think softed up if I remember right from the last bottle and is why i would of rated it a couple of points higher. This also would of been great with food. (1628 views)
Tasted by JSwick on 2/20/2008 & rated 91 points: One of the better SIneann OVZ I've had. I had been tasting them since 1999 and this one seems very typical of Pines Vineyard. It has the usual blackberry cobbler, leafy, leathery, spice notes and very intense palate with a bit if UMPH from 15.6% alc. (1833 views)
Tasted by mglyons on 12/9/2007: Needs some more time before drinking. Had some left in bottle and had softened after 24 hours open. Very "hot" in the mouth due to such high alchohol level. (1934 views)
Tasted by ranger01 on 11/22/2007: Fruity and spicy. Ready to drink but probably will improve with aging (1925 views)
Tasted by KPB on 10/12/2007 & rated 95 points: Sineann's 2006 old vines Zin has to be one of the best Zins I've ever run into. Nearly black, with a riveting nose of sweet creme de cassis, cramberries, spices, vanilla, wax. Richly textured with a long finish and sweet, ripe fruit. Right now, just sensational. (2165 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 10/10/2007 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 4 hours. Blackberry liqour with prominate blueberry notes that were outstanding. Nice spice on tail end. Possibly my favorite zin I have ever had. (1715 views)
