Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 94 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by michigan dogs on 6/13/2015 & rated 91 points: much better on the 2nd day, wine has aged well, not as big or fruit forward as when younger, but well balanced, smooth, very nice. Wine has probably hit it's peak and I would not expect it to get better. (149 views)
Tasted by Dasher on 4/5/2015 & rated 90 points: This wine is drinking real well. (415 views)
Tasted by mprachar on 9/27/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine is really coming into its own now. It's drinking beautifully; probably won't improve beyond this point. (1026 views)
Tasted by skibum819 on 4/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Just a great well balanced and beautifully crafted Cali Cab, but it needs at least 30 minutes to come around. Not a huge over the head powerhouse but a great textbook Cab (1502 views)
Tasted by Camben on 8/28/2013 & rated 95 points: Texture and richness is off the chart. The.. I really dont have words (2726 views)
Tasted by rodsjuice on 7/28/2013 & rated 89 points: The was more aromatic right from bottle and into decanter than after the 3 hour decant. Got aromas of cassis, cocoa, black fruit. Palate was full with a smooth texture. Good intergration of alcohol, tannins, acidity. Long smooth finish. Nicely balanced very enjoyable to drink by itself. I saved one glass for the grilled filet and it paired perfectly. One bottle left to enjoy. 5,12,16,6=89 (2667 views)
Tasted by MemorialWineFan on 7/25/2013 & rated 89 points: Solid cab. Probably not a lot more to gain with aging. Can drink now and over the next 2 years (2721 views)
Tasted by Tarpon222 on 7/12/2013 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Opaque, deeply extracted. Drank over 2 hours. Wonderful with filets. (1684 views)
Tasted by Lakewine23 on 7/12/2013 & rated 91 points: very nice! well rounded cab (2110 views)
Tasted by Troon on 6/10/2013 & rated 91 points: I didn't wait a year to drink the final bottle, but I enjoyed the wine. Decanted for about 30 minutes. Notes are similar to previous bottles. Good structure and balance. I enjoyed it for its price. (1053 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 5/20/2013 & rated 92 points: Decanted for about an hour. Dark purple color. Big nose of rich blackberry cobbler, creme de cassis, a bit of charred oak and dark chocolate. Similar flavor profile on the palate with a full bodied mouthfeel and moderate finish. Medium+ acidity and tannins. This wine is undeniably Napa cabernet, in a good way. Still has time to develop more secondary characteristics but very drinkable and enjoyable now. (999 views)
Tasted by sellerscellar on 4/1/2013 & rated 92 points: This wine simply continues to improve. Very nice. (1245 views)
Tasted by Trade Mark (TM) on 2/17/2013 & rated 89 points: Muted on the nose. Red and black fruit with tar and smoke accents. dry tannins. Solid Cab but not great. (1312 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 2/5/2013 & rated 83 points: So "Napa cab" is now code for something that you would drizzle over ice cream or pancakes, huh? Seriously, this is the 3rd napa cab in a row that I had high hopes for, and instead, it's cloying, oaked to all hell, syrupy and sickeningly sweet. No acid whatsoever to stand up to a grilled new york strip and wimpy tannins. Decanted for 1.5 hours. Reviews here made me think this is ready.

Day 2 and 4, I had a glass each day with some VERY spicy chili that I made, and it was a surprising and winning combination. The heavy heavy sweet flavors of this wine made for a great contrast to the spicy chili, sort of like a sweet white wine with spicy asian food or an Amarone with beef stew. (1518 views)
Tasted by sellerscellar on 2/4/2013 & rated 91 points: Drinking very well right now. Still needs at least 1-2 hours of air before it's even close to being ready to drink. (1292 views)
Tasted by Troon on 1/17/2013 & rated 91 points: Another year later, and I just opened the second bottle. At first, I was concerned because the wine was closed and hot. After about an hour the wine was really nice with a good amount of red fruit on the palate. The finish was subsiding by the end of the evening (+6 hours after opening), so I think the wine is beginning it's peak drinking window. I have one more bottle I will hold for another year (why not), but I think this wine is drinking well now.

Note from bottle consumed on 1/12/2012:
This wine needs time. The longer I decanted, the better it tasted. After two hours I started to taste the big red fruit that's hidden behind the tannins. The color was crimson red with strawberry and spice on the nose. By the end of the evening, I was hooked. This is a nice red that I had not had before. (92 Points) (1310 views)
Tasted by wirelesswine on 10/31/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice classic cab flavors, though the heat on the nose a bit high. In fairness, did not decant (only slow ox) (1699 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 9/1/2012 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour. This had some traditional cab components with tannins that were still tight. A little bit one dimensional. (1766 views)
Tasted by hr3 on 4/7/2012 & rated 92 points: Getting better (2568 views)
Tasted by J2K on 3/18/2012: I poured it in the decanter @ 5:30pm and stole a sip. It was totally out of whack; high alcohol, disjointed, rough, overripe dark, sour fruit.@ 9:30pm poured in the glass. Nose is overwhelming alcohol (14.9%) with touch of vanilla and fig. Palate is overripe dark fruit, licorice, and high alcohol- has a burned rubber or charred flavor that turns bitter and sour on the finish. Low acidity and tannins. At this point I realize this wine is not good and open a different bottle.
After 6 hours open I go back to the Pina. Some of the earlier nasty flavors have released. Now it has a smooth mouthfeel with low acidity and subtle tannins and taste like high alcohol cherry cough medicine. On day 2 (which rarely happens at Chez 2K) its more of the same. Considering the current characteristics of this wine, I dont see it getting better with age. Maybe just overcooked somewhere along the way. (2699 views)
Tasted by sellerscellar on 2/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Incredible wine that still needs more time in the bottle. You can tell there is immense upside to this wine after another 6-12 months to hopefully integrate the tanin so that it becomes less stringent. But, nicely integrated fruit and oak with this wine. Has a lot of life left. Potential for 92-93. Drink after a 4 hr.+ decant or hold for at least 6-12 months. Very nice stuff. (2897 views)
Tasted by Cujo on 2/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Dark color, medium nose, good legs, medium body, good finish, well rounded, consistent bottle (2476 views)
Tasted by vasili on 2/5/2012 & rated 91 points: Needs some time to open up. Well integrated now and I think this will get even better with bottle time. (2618 views)
Tasted by Troon on 1/12/2012 & rated 92 points: This wine needs time. The longer I decanted, the better it tasted. After two hours I started to taste the big red fruit that's hidden behind the tannins. The color was crimson red with strawberry and spice on the nose. By the end of the evening, I was hooked. This is a nice red that I had not had before. (3208 views)
Tasted by apspr on 12/17/2011 & rated 91 points: Excellent - still needs lots of airing. (3506 views)
