Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 81 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by juicejammer on 5/3/2015 & rated 92 points: As usual, Paloma does not disappoint. Drinking nicely with black cherry, cocoa and coffee notes. Integrated tannins with a smooth finish. Drink now-2022 (910 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 2/5/2015 & rated 92 points: First night was a bit tight with coarse tannins on the finish. Decided to leave until second day and was rewarded with a plush, smokey wine that was much better integrated. Some sharpness on the finish but in better harmony with the dark cherry fruit and velvety texture of the wine. Nose more fragrant on day 2 as well. (1070 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 11/28/2014 & rated 89 points: Just pulled out a bottle to drink with non-wine friends. This is quite nice for what it is - it's ripe and plush, with dark berry and some plummy fruit, cocoa powder and spice. Maybe a bit of leather and herb. It's not to heavy - it's lively with some drive. Not really my style, but it did the job. 14.5/20. (1617 views)
Tasted by jinks on 11/15/2014 & rated 94 points: A beautiful rose petal color. Smooth aromas and flavors of cherries and berry fruit.
This sumptuous merlot is delicate yet firm, like the hands of the strong, determined, and passionate woman who worked so hard to create it.
As I drink it, I sense the Peace that permeates her vineyard. (1279 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 8/24/2013: Fantastic! Decanting for 2hours really let this beauty open up. Lovely again. (2701 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 8/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Very nice merlot with good acidity. Tannins were still a bit tense for me which took away from the finish. Lots going on in the flavor profile. Velvety. (1890 views)
Tasted by ramwines on 5/25/2013 & rated 92 points: Wonderful wine. Full nose of spices and berries. Well balanced with enough acidity to compliment the lamb shank that I had with it. Paloma makes a find Merlot! (1990 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Similar tasting notes to previous bottle. Wonderful nose with rich delicious fruit but struggles to keep the high ETOH on the finish in check. (1875 views)
Tasted by Schwarzer Hund on 3/9/2013: Very dark red color, dark berry nose, dark berry fruit with chocolate on palate, nice balance, long long finish. Very enjoyable wine with grilled veal chops. (1913 views)
Tasted by Winoluver on 11/22/2012 & rated 92 points: Hate to see this one go, but great for T'giving. Black fruit wt a lot of mineral taste almost like a Chianti Reserva. Spring MNT wines are always my fav & this one doesn't disappoint.? (1324 views)
Tasted by johnnyo on 10/14/2012 & rated 93 points: Quite possibly my favorite Cali Merlot. Great structure, balance with beautiful black fruit and velvety mouth feel followed by spot on acidity. Very nice. (1421 views)
Tasted by Mike V on 10/12/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice classic Paloma. Dark berries and Chocolate. Not special but reliable and enjoyable (1303 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 8/10/2012 & rated 92 points: Again, gorgeous showing of this classic Merlot. Dark blueberries, cassis, milk chocolate and dark granite qualities. Very mineral driven for a Merlot. Enjoyable mouth feel. Creamy and lively. Cannot go wrong with Paloma Merlot. (1553 views)
Tasted by theferb on 6/2/2012 & rated 93 points: Big tannins on open. Softens after 20-30 minutes. Ready to drink now. (1611 views)
Tasted by sw92130 on 12/27/2011 & rated 92 points: Delicious. absolutely delicious. Decanted briefly. Pizza dinner. Really. (2054 views)
Tasted by MCUBEB on 12/20/2011 & rated 88 points: Nice well made merlot that is easy to drink. The fruit has some over ripe quality to it that is showing lot more now. I would say drink up sooner than later. (2192 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 8/19/2011 & rated 93 points: Came together beautifully since the last bottle! (2302 views)
Tasted by S. Lorin on 4/9/2011 & rated 91 points: drinking well with characteristic Paloma dark cherries, plum and chocolate, moderate tannins and finish - lacks the concentration and depth of the 2006 (2981 views)
Tasted by emf on 3/9/2011: Was disappointed with this bottle. I don't know if it was the bottle or not. Very absent of aromas on opening, decanted and swirled a lot, things improved but never the way we expected. The nose never really came around but in the glass, there was good structure and red cherries and berries. We have more so we will try it again. (2887 views)
Tasted by spotfin on 11/29/2010 & rated 92 points: Typical flavor profile, ripe plum, dark cherry, mocha, not pruny, full bodied, long finish. Great wine. (3243 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 11/8/2010 & rated 92 points: Delicious black cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors with hints of chocolate and oak finishing with soft tannins. (3414 views)
Tasted by Venezia on 8/25/2010 & rated 92 points: Dark berry and chocolate. Nice structure with good structure. Tannins have definitely mellowed. Not sure it will get much better with more time. (3622 views)
Tasted by drycab on 8/25/2010: Popped and poured. I remember now why I like Merlot! (3642 views)
Tasted by DNABog on 4/30/2010 & rated 92 points: A generous 92. Wine had character and complexity but a bit too high alcohol. It was not pleasant to have all of those notes burned off at the end of a taste. Love the dark cherry notes and chocolate. (3759 views)
Tasted by glg on 2/20/2010 & rated 90 points: Midweight mouthfeel. Definitely got dark fruits and chocolate on palate and had a good lentgh to finish. I preferred the 2001 and 2002 vintages - but this was still very enjoyable. (3827 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.

2013 Vintage Notes:
"Napa Valley and virtually all of the North Coast of California (which obviously includes Sonoma and Mendocino Counties as well) has been on a qualitative tear since 2012. 2012 was a great vintage for nearly every varietal in North Coast California, but what is even more remarkable is that 2013 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting North Coast varietals over the last 37 years. It's a game-changer in terms of the consistency of quality, the depth of quality, and the across-the-board excellence for so many wines." - Robert Parker
