A little jammy, with a silky mouth feel and just a hint of cedar / cigar box on the nose. This was an awesome bottle of wine. I'm sorry I'm out. Time to drink up folks. (2724 views) | | Tasted by vinoveritas on 2/16/2011 & rated 92 points: Great jammy carlisle (2890 views) | | Tasted by vinoveritas on 12/30/2010 & rated 90 points: Very good. XMAS 2010 (2913 views) | | Tasted by ljl203 on 11/29/2008 & rated 92 points: Had been waiting a while on this one. Did not disappoint. Purple pink color with just a hint of browning. Slightly musty nose. Opened and decanted for an hour. Initial taste of blueberries, some creosote, olives. Blossomed to more red fruit, a honeyed cherry-strawberry taste with fine tannins. Great length and persistence. Wonderful to have and reminisce about a special dinner with my parents. (3056 views) | | Tasted by JBD on 9/9/2008 & rated 89 points: Not as good as the Feeney Ranch Zin - but still great (2956 views) | | Tasted by decaturwinedude on 2/10/2008 & rated 90 points: Nose is chambord-ish with notes of sweet, dark fruit. Palate is rich, viscous, marked by dark fruit, raspberry liquer and plums. Seems to be in the groove now, can't see waiting as there is little left unresolved here. Not a blockbuster dry creek at this point, just an easy drinking-lush Zin. Hides it 15.9% alc well. (1658 views) | | Tasted by decaturwinedude on 12/30/2007 & rated 88 points: Nose of black pepper and sweet red fruit. Smells sweet, liquer like. Palate is lush, but slightly tired. Upfront cherry liquer annd raspberry that is slightly jammy. Lacks a little stuffing, and tastes its age I'd day. Time to drink up on the '03s. Not my favorite of the last few Dry Creeks, but nice. (1739 views) | | Tasted by decaturwinedude on 11/21/2007 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby red in the glass. Slight hint of alcohol on the nose, along with black pepper and red fruit. Palate is lush upfront with hints of eucalyptus, cherry liquer, and raspberry. There's a jamminess here that really straddles the border of being too much, too grapey, but there's a an underlying peppery spice to even things out a bit. Little bit of heat on the finish. Not my favorite of the last few Dry Creeks, but nice. (1716 views) | | Tasted by lpollack on 11/4/2007 & rated 92 points: Dark ruby color. Intense concentration. Rich nose of fruits and spice. Taste of raspberries, cherries, black pepper, briar and a hint of nutmeg. Long pleasing aftertaste. Wine was wonderful with short ribs. (1798 views) | | Tasted by jdiv on 4/9/2007: Opened 3+ hours ago, this one has opened all the way. Medium to dark red, nice, full raspberry fruit and overall medium bodied with a good finish. At $26 this is a good value - offset pork chops w/ pan sauce rather nicely. (2414 views) | | Tasted by ScottS on 3/20/2007 & rated 91 points: Medium to dark ruby red in color. On the nose blackcherry, spice box & alcohol. Full bodied wine that's thick & mouthcoating. Black fruits dominate along with black pepper....this wine is a little heavy on the palate but pleasing. 50+5+13+16+7=91 pts (2145 views) | | Tasted by ScottS on 8/1/2006 & rated 89 points: Needed some serious air time to take the VERY high alcohol. When the wine started to settle down the black fruit and spice was revealed. Good wine for the $$ (2398 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 7/23/2006 & rated 91 points: PLUMS, BLACK CHERRIES, LICORICE, AND CHOCOLATE IN THE NOSE. PLUMS AND CHERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. GOOD COMPLEXITY, NICE LEGS, AND A LONG FINISH. (146 views) | | Tasted by zheem on 6/1/2006: On a bit of a Zin run. Had the Carlisle vineyard last night. This was different and similar. Not as much of the RRV Spice, but this has such a pleasant mouthfeel, not really smooth, but chewy. It seems to stick to your taste buds. The flavors are dark and brambly, with figs and plums and dry cherries. had this with Pizzas and pasta, but this wine overpowered them all (actually I liked the wine better than the pizzas, but that says somethng about me!) Should drink well for a few more years, but that was sadly my last bottle! (2482 views) | | Tasted by otisabdul on 4/14/2006 & rated 89 points: Smooth and well-balanced. Solid effort. Should drink well over the next 2-3 years. (2492 views) | | Tasted by Nevin on 4/3/2006 & rated 92 points: Typical Carlisle, big, powerfull and full of fruit. This one was so big that it desperately needed spareribs, or something intensely flavoured. Even better the next morning, a little smoother, should be great in two more years. (2628 views) | | Tasted by Quequeg on 8/7/2005 & rated 89 points: (Steak, garlic bread and pesto with Donna and Sam on the patio.) Okay, it's easy to see why Parker loves these wines. Intense nose and palate out of the bottle; lots of pepper, screaming Zin. Second glass: jammy, jammy, jammy. Almost too sweet and chewy; a little peanut butter and this would have made a good elementary school lunchbox treat. Finally, last glass saw the return of the pepper. Overall, a high quality Zin; spicy, chewy, tasty. Worth the price. (2728 views) | | Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 6/4/2004: Napa-Noma Trip: Barrel Sample - Nice aromatics. Rich red berry fruit. Nicely concentrated. This has not been blended with any Petite Sirah yet, which is how Mikc usually prefers to finish it. Sampling the same wine with about 20% Petite Sirah, the wine gained richness and density on the palate, but the aromatics became muted. Our consensus at this stage is that we would like to see this wine get something in the 10% range of Petite Sirah blended in. (1408 views) |

Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
