Tasted by dbkitc on 7/6/2015 & rated 84 points: Bright cherry red. Nose is pure eau de vie de framboise - not raspberry fruit, but high test alcohol. I have never been a fan of this vintage at KB and this one follows suit. Too alcoholic. My favorite KB single vineyard, but not tonight. (84) (32 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 6/14/2015 & rated 94 points: Crimson in color. 14.9% ABV. Gorgeous nose of dark fruits, brown sugar and cloves. Wonderful fruit held in balance by the right amount of acidity. Nice grip on the palate. Flavors of black cherry, baking spices and sarsaparilla. The finish is long and toasty. Really nice showing from a vintage that many proclaimed would not bode well for Kosta Browne over the long term. Drink over the next year or two. (122 views)
Tasted by nfafoglia on 4/12/2015 & rated 89 points: Color is medium red with strawberries and cola on the palate. Nose of earth and red licorice. A bit past its prime with some oxidation. (330 views)
Tasted by Mike V on 5/13/2014 flawed bottle: Corked (1597 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 4/20/2014 & rated 93 points: This was holding up quite well with aromas of strawberry, cherry, brown sugar and flowers. This was quite balanced and not super charged like some of the other KB's but definitely California. Displayed flavors of strawberry, cherry, sarsaparilla, and herb. Wasn't sure how the 2006's would hold up but this is aging quite nicely although I still prefer KB's with only 2-3 years of age on them. (1575 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 4/9/2014 & rated 89 points: An overpriced wine from a weak vintage. Just one more left. (1734 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 2/10/2014: - Garnet color. (1880 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 10/23/2013: This is ok. It's got a good nose of berries and meat but the palate is a bit disjointed. Not a good year for Kb and it shows but a nice drink no less. (2208 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 8/24/2013 & rated 92 points: Delicious, rich, highly concentrated dark strawberry/black raspberry fruit, showed bottle age but disappointed wine wasn't more expansive (1524 views)
Tasted by dmatley on 7/7/2013 & rated 86 points: Big jammy profile but flat on the midpalate and finish. Wasnt especially hot just flat and not interesting. Waited too long to drink this one. (1597 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 5/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Huge rich nose of red berry, cola, vanilla, spice and cloves. Palate is richly fruited but exceptionally juicy, poised and fresh. Chock full of red berry and spice flavor. Long spice-filled finish. You know what you're getting with KB, and this delivers 110%. Delicious. While this is big and rich, the wine holds it's balance and never feels heavy or cloying. (1717 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 3/30/2013 & rated 93 points: In a great spot right now and just bursting with lush delicious flavor. Nose is full of black cherry, cola and toast notes. Palate is richly fruited with with vanilla, spice and cola notes. Seamless across the mid-palate into a long, lifted finish. Delicious. (1815 views)
Tasted by tanglenet on 3/10/2013: No formal notes as we were entertaining. In the sweet spot right now. Very Good. (1620 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/8/2013 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of black berries, black cherries and a bit of plums. Flavors of black berries, plums and a bit of currant. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold. Pretty tasty right now! (1735 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 1/4/2013 & rated 90 points: A very nice Pinot but certainly not worth the tariff. I've not been a fan of the 2006 kbs and this wine is no exception. (1735 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 12/31/2012 & rated 90 points: PnP w/1 hr splash decant. Clear, med purple/ruby red color. Typical and classic big KB Pinot nose. I was not as impressed w/this vintage compaired to the 05. It had the usual Kanzler power but seemed a bit heavy and rough around the edges. Certainly a very good wine just slightly disjointed. Dark fruit, some cola, some tannins, cab like. Very possible that it just needed more air time to open up. Nothing really off. $81 w/tax, shipping. (1801 views)
Tasted by daniel.jay on 8/19/2012 & rated 92 points: Drank with an hour decant. Showed a hint of bricking. Very good, but not exceptional. More restrained than other KB's. Beautiful nose, palate dominated by savory notes and earth/funk as opposed to cherry/strawberry. Nicely balanced, good acidity, well integrated alcohol. (1972 views)
Tasted by Knicksfan on 8/13/2012 & rated 93 points: Time has really favored this wine - really complex, integrated and well balanced (1925 views)
Tasted by TwistedArmadillo on 7/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Rich nose of candid tobacco, and cherry with chewy cola palate with a hint of cedar and a very nice finish. (1829 views)
Tasted by daniel.jay on 5/26/2012 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour at restaurant - which was a shame. This wine didn't start to open for 30 min, then continued to bloom into lush strawberries, cherries, baking spice. Great acidity, balance. (1804 views)
Tasted by Knicksfan on 5/12/2012 & rated 93 points: Lovely Cali PN - awesome fruit but nicely balanced. (1840 views)
Tasted by TwistedArmadillo on 3/3/2012 & rated 93 points: Not at the 05 level, but an outstanding wine. A little more cherry on nose and palate than the 05. After sitting for 30 min or so, the alcohol diminished and the wine opened up very nicely. (2136 views)
Tasted by tederf on 2/19/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Cola, red cherry, and a bit of spice. Time to drink up. (2222 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/31/2011: Drinking Beautifully. (2517 views)
Tasted by Lax on 12/23/2011 & rated 91 points: My style preference has changed since I purchased these KB's, but this was still a good pinot. Entering a steady drinking state and chosen as best from a blind flight of 4 pinots by 3/4 tasters. Nose of red cherry, some of the typical KB cola, and a slight sweetness. Probably my favorite of the 2006 SVD's, but I chalk that up to timing of consumption as much as anything. (2465 views)

2006 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard

Aromas of A complex array of fresh blueberry, blackberry and raspberry fruit grab your attention with a slight hint of orange blossom and mineral. On the palate, piercing ripe currants, juicy blackberry and sweet dark cherries with traces of cedar and dust. Thick and juicy on the midpalate with supportive, mouthwatering acidity. All of which leads to a long, bracing finish with a touch of minerality.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Austria, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Kanzler Vineyard

Kanzler Vineyard began in 1996 as the dream of Steve and Lynda Kanzler. The vineyard location is near the edge of the Petaluma Gap land channel known as the Sebastopol Hills, which is a microclimate characterized by morning and evening fog, breezy afternoons and bright, but mild afternoon sun. The cooler temperatures allow for an extended hang time and produce grapes of uncommon intensity and complexity. The Kanzler Vineyard is usually the last Pinot Noir vineyard we harvest. The gently sloping vineyard is a former apple orchard, near the town of Sebastopol. Consisting of clones 115, 667 and Pommard, this vineyard delivers complexity, strength and purity, along with wines exhibiting a sensuous mouth feel. Kosta Browne's first vintage of Kanzler Vineyard was in 2002.
